      @twodumbgamers9285 Před 2 lety +9

I mean his statement is kinda true. You can summon torrent once before it uses a flask. I had a moment in a fight where torrent died, I revived him, he died again and I tried to revive him again which I did but didn't realize that in my panic I just instinctively clicked yes for the prompt and used my last flask to get him back. I ended up getting smacked again and dying. When I could have at least had a chance or even beat the boss with that last flask. I think this is one of the exact examples the devs thought would happen. I'd rather get fucked a few times because I'm trying to read a prompt rather than just accidentally spam through a prompt and not read it. And if say the devs agree as well. I mean the name of the game is Pain, what else are you expecting from it? 🥲

my least favorite feature of elden ring is the input reading bosses have. This is when the AI waits for an input and generates a response. Its particularly egregious in the godskin duo fight but can also be seen in morgot and godfrey. I also don't like that they strayed away from a more combo based fighting style to a more random-chaotic style with the bosses attacks. DS3 in my opinion has far better boss fight design by a decent margin.

    • @leotox6423
      @leotox6423 Před rokem +38

This and the Bosses tend to spam or truecombo you a lot more than in other games. Mohg for example likes to spam his thrust attack multiple times in a row even though he just knocked you down with it and his overhead can hit you at any place in the arena if he's in the center because of its bullshit range.
Also DS3 managed to make dual bosses a lot more fun to play than Elden Ring. Fighting the two Gargoyles is nothing else than a pain because they permanently jump out of range, attack while moving and even if you finally are in range there is a chance your swing misses because of their high hitbox. On top of that all of their attacks are aoe with bullshit range and speed and they can carpet bomb you with contact damaging poison through the entire arena. Elfriede and Ariandel were a hard but really cool and manageable bossfight with almost any playstyle. Demonprince was really tough in phase one but gave you enough space and different states to keep the fight dynamic while also giving you a chance to fight them one on one. These guys are just all of From Softs bullshit combined in a boring and purely annoying gank boss.
Their original version from DS1 was not that easy, but it was an even fight with fair range and speed and you could summon Solare to help you out and basically beat the boss for you. In Elden Ring at least with ashes and NPC summons you just get fucked even harder and it barely does any good for you.

    @robertjohnson6225 Před rokem +39

As a melee character, my biggest gripe was the targeting system, for sure. It was especially frustrating to target large boss-like foes... because the camera can't handle it if the limb or body part you are targeting moves in front of you and behind you in a second, rapidly flipping the camera 180 degrees in the process... changing which direction is forward, etc. Target a dragon's head for an attack, and you'll quickly find the camera just nonstop spinning wildly. People say "oh... don't target bosses" but equipment doesn't work... say... shields... if you aren't just about perfectly facing the foe you are using it against. You are forced to lock, drop target, lock, drop target, and that in itself can be really hit or miss.
Also... with a boss like the gargoyles... the lowest place they can be targeted is their upper abdomen/chest. Your weapon doesn't even reach that high. I need to hit the boss in the legs, and in order to do so, i need to swing at his chest, and hope that the legs are between me and my target. its just bad design, and was clearly only tested with caster builds.
Fighting the ancient dragons is an absolute nightmare, too. (where nothing you can target can be hit with a melee weapon) put a target in the legs for the love of god.

I've got 3 pretty annoying gripes. 1st is the lack of tracking in your attacks. Bosses will track you to the top of the great erdtree with ease but if an enemy is slightly elevated because of hilly terrain my attack is going right into the ground and god forbid they slightly side step during a jump attack, lol. Also the outrageous amount of time you spend on the ground after getting knocked down. I can take hits from demi gods but if you knock me off my horse I'm seemingly going to need to sleep it off for a minute. Last but not least, enemies can attack through anything, be it wall or ground, but if my attack glances a tombstone it's done for.

Though frustrating it's not a valid gripe of game design. It's on you, the player, to have better situational awareness. Pay better attention to your surroundings. The alternative makes no sense, which is to either remove most or all of the environmental objects or remove the collision of those objects, which we all know people would complain over. Your suggestion to change how the collision works is bad too. You want coders to waste time and resources changing collision properties because you can't pay attention to your surroundings in a fight... it's assanign.
Sorry, but i believe bad ideas should be criticized.
I think it's annoying to get stuck on game geometry too, but the solution is to be more aware while in battle, not to criticize game design dude. Try and look at it from another perspective mang, that's all I'm saying.

With Elden Ring it felt like this to the extreme because of how much insane hype there was, it just had to do nothing horrendously bad, and the community would make it a 10/10, even though due to certain design decisions it could be argued to be an 8 or 9.

I love this game (~240 hours and I still haven't finished it, but I love exploring and this game is great for that), but that's a solid list. For me, the biggest single issue is the camera and how it intersects with the lock on system. I'm not great at these kind of games (this is the first Soulslike I've ever gotten really stuck into, because of the aforementioned exploration) so I die a lot, but I swear 1/4 to 1/3 of those deaths are because of camera/TL shenanigans. Things like either being unable to lock on to an enemy because of something like skinny little tree in between us, or not locking onto the giant field boss that's right in front of me and instead looking onto some trash mob 100m in the distance, or not locking on at all because...reasons? It's infuriating sometimes, but the game is so good I can deal with it, I just wish I didn't have to.
Second is the spell selection thing mentioned in the video. I've settled into a dex/fth build, full Godslayer mode 'cause it's a fun hybrid style, but man, cycling spells is a PITA. Why don't we get a "spell wheel" sort of thing? Crazy.
Third is the quests. I *do not* want a bunch of glowy markers in the distance, but as someone with a crappy memory I think an in game log of NPCs you've met and their conversations would be really nice. That would only give you access to information you've already learned, so I don't think it'd be any kind of difficulty nerf. That's the main thing I've had to use the wiki for...along with "shopping" for gear, heh. ;)

I’m going to have to give a very respectful but very hard disagree on like the last 4 points.
Like repeat bosses, this is a huge open world game having some basic versions of bosses show up a couple times isn’t the end of the world and means the devs can put more effort in other places. Not to mention most of them get move set alterations the further you get. Sure the godson duo fight is a tough one but having to deal with both brings a whole new dynamic to the fight than when you fight them solo.
Cross play is in the same boat. Like sure it would be nice but it takes time and resources to make that happen and just isn’t what the creators think their efforts need to go. I mean would you rather the game come out in the timeframe and quality it did. Or either wait a heck of a lot longer for the same product OR have the game notably worse off.
The meta weapons thing, every game with choices will have a meta. That is unavoidable as well as the people who flock toward it. I would say the weapon line up is pretty well balanced all things considered, the only issues being bows IMO.
And as a person who’s first and longest play through was with incantations AND sorceries being their main combat strategy the set up is fine. It makes you think about and strategize your game play. And makes you think about where you put everything as you want your combo spells to be together, or have close range spells right next to long range, etc.

I can understand why you found the Radagon/Elden Beast finale disappointing, but I found at least Radagon to be a breath of fresh air after so many bosses with so many BS mechanics. Here was a 1v1 fight that boiled down to old school Dark Souls fighting: They attack, you dodge, then counterattack. It took me 3 days of attempts, maybe 2 hours+ combined across those 3 days, to beat Radagon, and that was because I learned I couldn't rely on my shield because of the holy damage, so I ended up focusing on getting my dodge rolls perfect and only attacking when I needed to. Radagon felt FAIR because of this. Almost everything could be avoided if you reacted appropriately. If I died, it was my fault, not the boss's. This is in comparison to fights such as Malenia or Margit, where your i-frames only last so long before the next attack nicks you.
Elden Beast, on the other hand... Suffered from being a LARGE FromSoft boss where you wouldn't be able to read all of its attacks even if you were locked-off. So on my winning attempt I did resort to using Mimic Tear, if only so I could have some moves directed away from me. But otherwise, I beat Radagon 1v1, and that is good enough for me to feel proud!

For how huge the world is repeats make logical and lore sense anyways, and even so, like with godskin or crucible duos, thank the elden lord I get a chance to practice on them alone before having to do them together xD
Feel like repeats is just not nearly as bad of an issue as it was in Skyrim, and I really love Skyrim too. I think it's just most people aren't actually checking out everything possible to see in this game so they aren't getting the full picture with the repeats.

Photo mode will never happen from From because it involves freezing the game world in place, aka pausing. That's verboten, since it messes with their design intent that the world acts around you even when you are rummaging in your inventory, or taking a squat to go pee, or whatever. If you want to walk away without risking something happening, save and quit.
Similarly, the lock-on has remained as it is because of design intent; Locking on is equivalent to focusing your concentration on that one point, and that means risking blindsiding by large foes who can swing outside your peripheral view. It's the equivalent to looking both ways before crossing the road, rather than just focusing on where you're going to cross; active awareness.
Elden Ring is actually much better at telling you where people are going to go to compared to, say, Dark Souls 2, for example. They generally tell you the specific zone they're travelling to, like Diallos mentioning going to Volcano Manor, or the blinded priest/oracle mentioning going beyond the Great Elevator of Rold in search of Goldmask (and his position is right beside where the map stele is, so if you miss him there, sorry, you're blind; not the game's fault). There are some quests that are a little more obscure towards the end of them, like trying to figure out Fia's location if you haven't interacted with Radahn yet, but finding Blaidd after Ranni tells you to find Nokron? When you enter Ranni's service, you are forced to speak to Blaidd, who tells you that he's still in Limgrave and Nokron lies 'at the bottom of this land", and that he plans to enter it through "the well in the Mistwood". Once you find the well in the Mistwood, which isn't that hard at all, it's pretty much a straight path right to Blaidd under the cliff that looks like it could lead to Nokron proper, to the west of the Ancestral Remains.

      Case in point: Sekiro.
Sekiro literally made both of your arguments invalid.
      1. Sekiro lets you casually pause the game by going to the menu. It's likely they never had such intent in mind. But rather because it cannot pause when online (like any other online game) and they were probably too lazy to implement pause specifically for offline.

My biggest issue with elden ring is the MASSIVE difficulty spike that comes once you unlock mountain of the giants. Like unless you want to die in 1-3 hits you have to dump your levels into vigor. And even with a high vigor enemies still deal ridiculous amounts of damage and it can get pretty frustrating.
Also a bunch of the bosses in Elden ring are just simply not fun (Fromsoft still hasn’t figured out that gank fights aren’t fun) and it’s the worst with the larger bosses (who are usually super fast and flail around like a spastic making it a fucking chore to try and find a opening to attack them)

One of the most annoying things about gaming is that whenever a game is popular especially when it hits the mainstream is that there's a massive cult mentality for everyone to just attack and be extremely biased / childish to anyone that argues against the game not being good perfect or just simply not to their taste.
Of course there are definitely those who just like to be a naysayer and hate on things just to hate it.
But then there are those who definitely understand the game's accomplishments and success and can definitely see the appeal but the game itself as well as the genre just isn't for them.

One of the things that makes elden ring "great" for so many people is that it's a "complete" game when compared to unfinished, broken, MTX-filled games that have been released last decade (battlefield, cyberpunk, fallout 76,....). But yes, hardcore fans are often the bane of gaming in general. Just look at the console wars... whenever a game is hyped and praised like elden ring i tend to not get into it for some reason. This is coming from a guy who was the youngest out of all of my siblings and I was fortunate enough to grow up with siblings who were all Gamers and also had neighbors who were also Gamers as well.
To us it didn't matter if it was Nintendo Sega Xbox PlayStation or PC. We all just liked to play games. Sometimes we would go over one kids place and play some Xbox or another time we would hang out and play Playstation or Sega Genesis/Dreamcast. Other times my brother and I would bring some neighbors over and we would show them that kind of games we had on our Nintendo 64 or GameCube. It really didn't matter. To us it was always fun trying something new especially if you didn't own the console before!

One disagreement I have is the cross play thing. It’s honestly not as simple as doing an on-off switch. There’s infrastructure and licensing agreements that need to be made and multiple parties involved need to agree to the same terms and it becomes an expensive process.
Then you consider that online multiplayer in these games has no marketability and therefore no way to make up for the expense of putting crossplay together. So you have this super expensive feature with no way to monetize it in a game where the main focus is PVE content and you’ll quickly realize it has nothing to do with hackers or stability, it just doesn’t make sense. Fighting games can’t even get crossplay because getting it together is a nightmare and it’s just sort of industry known that it’s a hard thing to make happen and it’s built into the networking infrastructure of the game and isn’t really even something you can just easily patch it. I mean you could but the patch would need to be so intimate with the current game build that it’s basically a rebuild of the networking if the game doesn’t already have it implemented.

I bet you I'd be willing to admit a lot of things concerning these kinds of games.
How many of these I list will be in the vid?
Attacking through walls. Inexcusable game design.
Terrain navigation issue for the fire giant fight. It would step onto the elevated sections to make fighting it impossibly difficult than needed.
Invulnerability frames (I feel it's lazy game design).
Damage sponge enemies. This is true lazy design. Can't make the enemies better, so just up their HP so they can stick around long enough to do something.
Camera focus. Some enemies are just so big it screws with the camera trying to focus on the target (which is generally the mid point of the creature). It means the one thing this function is meant to do (keep focus on the enemy) becomes an aspect a player needs to fight with on top of everything else.
Player messages attempting to block ladders. Not a problem when not under attack.
Unable to co-op the game entirely without disconnection. It was advertised as a mutliplayer open world game. Because this was a lie these following points all stem from this:
+Forced pvp when just wanting to play co-op. The PvP in this game detracted from the game experience. Not fun to be unable to save, or make progress because of the near constant invasions occuring each time my friend, and I switched being hosts. So many players would run off and hide behind NPCs, or attack us while we were occupied fighting a damage sponge NPC. We did on very rare occasions get some pretty nice people who would duel us one on one in an NPC free area. Those were cool, but far too rare to be worth the rest of the PvP experience. It got obnoxious to the point we'd bunker ourselves into a nice area and wait for the idiots to either disconnect or come find us to fight (which had us waiting a fair amount of time too). In few cases we'd just shut off our game, and reboot it because it would be faster to resume our co-op session.
+Invisible walls during multiplayer forcing disconnects to continue.
+Unable to summon friends if a main boss is defeated in an area. This required looking up a guide to avoid the boss of the boxed off region so everything else could be taken care of first co-op. There is no reason for this game rule to be in place as you could freely explore large chunks of land with friends prior to the boss battle.
+Having the gather resources to summon people which is completely pointless if those resources are super easy to hoard. This is like having weapon durability when said durability never comes into effect. This doesn't promote exploration in the least.
+obnoxious invasions after every reconnect with a friend.
+The wait times for seeing each other in our games to be summoned sometimes took a while. More wasted time waiting...

After 3 or 4 times you should remember that you shouldn't try to resummon him at important moments and just work on getting some distance so you can resummon without getting hit. It's up to you to get better at the game with how it plays. Not change the game to how you want to play.

      Personally really like that enemy.
But I mean do you really think it would make sense that only 1 guardian to the tree would exist? It's kinda canon for there to be several. And considering they drop the items to lvl up your estus flask, shouldn't you be happy you know how to deal with the enemy rather than having to learn a whole new move set each time?

The only single player grievance I have is how enemies can swing through walls. Doesn’t make much sense. Don’t really have any other performance issue playing on the ps5.
With multiplay and pvp, more an issue with the gamers than the game, but yea it totally gets old seeing the meta bros invading over and over. I use weapons based on character design personally, and yea I don’t expect everyone to play like that, in fact I do expect the pvp fiends to always be there with the scarlet rot and rivers. Never gets less annoying tho.

Oh man the number 1 didn't even occur to me. I kind of like getting higher powered versions of older bosses, including the Godskin duo.
For me the #1 issue (and it's not close) is the poor mob enemy AI. Particularly in legacy dungeons like Haligtree and Leyndall, you can just go up and start bashing the eff out of dudes with guys 10 feet away not reacting at all, making the difficulty trivial. Just some basic AI and collaboration between mob types would have really bumped up the experience, in my opinion.
Still one of my favorite gaming experiences ever, I finished my first playthrough a week ago and I was legitimately sad.
Oh, Honorable Mention for the XBOX - having to do the full system shut down to save progress is annoying. Sometimes I want to play for just a few minutes, but it takes a good five minutes to boot up my cold system or risk losing progress. I lost 10 hours of progress early on which was devastating at the time, although in retrospect I don't regret the extra experience.

My only thing against Elden Ring is that blue hunters can be summoned in taunter's tongue lobbies. I want to help players (who want coop but hate pvp) deal with invaders. But it's really discouraging when you look to help people like that but get summoned to a random fight club where invaders are not only more plentiful but welcomed too.
I just hope there's an update that'll disable the white ring if you use the tongue

I really like being summoned to help a taunting solo host deal with invaders, it's pretty cool killing 4 invaders in a row.
The blue system still needs a rework, cause right now you have such long wait times that you get summkned at the most inconvenient times

I actually appreciated the repeat bosses part, since elden ring is a hard game it gives you good insight on how strong you´ve gotten from the first time you fought them.

Other than godrick and godefroy I don’t think repeat bosses are a bad thing. Like, it would be weird af in a whole open world to only have 1 godskin apostle or 1 tree sentinel or 1 nights cavalry. Like a whole army of knights and you only see and fight one of them? That’s bs

I played as an intelligence build my last play through and it was annoying to have to scroll through my spells, but then I realized that there's a mechanic for if you hold down the d pad, it will take you to the spell in your first slot. That way, I just put my top 3 spells in the first 3 slots and whenever I needed to get to them, I just held down the d pad.

Wait. You need to re-summon torrent using a flask charge? I never got asked that question while I was playing and Torrent has definitely died on me before. I could always just summon him again for free. Is it because I walk out of combat first/ kill any enemies first? Also I never try to summon torrent during boss battles (I thought you couldn't until recently I discovered that on some of them you can). Does that make a difference?

After ~400 hours of mainly PVE and some PVP, I would rank the top 3 biggest problems as such:
    1. Overpowered weapons and skills, which make the game trivially easy. This is bad for the overall experience, as people are not learning how to overcome challenges anymore, which is the main thing that makes these games so enjoyable. Things like Rivers of Blood and Bloodhound's Step are also extremely detrimental to the PVP experience.
    2. High damage in general, both you and late game bosses and enemies deal such absurd amounts of damage that it almost forces a big part of the playerbase to make use of broken gear like mentioned in point 1. In Dark Souls 3, a duel could easily take 2 or 3 minutes while in Elden Ring if you hit your opponent 2 times, they are dead. Damage in general needs to be tuned down by at least 30%.
    3. For a lot of useful items you need ingredients that are not infinitely available in-game, or you need to painstakingly farm certain mobs for drops. Especially in PVP this severely restricts item usage. My suggestion is that most ingredients could be purchased from vendors after beating the game. I'm not willing to farm demi-humans for an hour just so I can craft 30 roped bombs.
