I had a very similar experience with Sekiro when it came out. I got an hour in, could tell there was something special there but knew that I was entirely not in the right place in my life to handle a game like it. I was pretty sure I was done with FromSoft games at that point tbh, but something shifted in me in the past year, and I finally got around to Sekiro and loved it, and then I was in a good place to get into Elden Ring. Always hard to skip such a Big Game, especially when you do this for your job, but sometimes putting a game to the side for awhile (or forever) is just what you need to do.

    • @ignaciodl9016
      @ignaciodl9016 Před 2 lety +55

I bet this must more common than we think. FromSoft games require 100% of your focus at every moment. You have to be able to immerse yourself in the game and fully inhabit your character in order to enjoy the experience. If your head is not 100% there, you may find the game meaningless even if you manage to progress through it just the same. As you've said, not being able to enjoy the game at a particular time does not mean you'll never find a good moment to enjoy it in the future. We just have to make peace with the fact that we can't do anything at any given time, no matter how convinced or willing we feel we are to do it. I hope you are doing well, Raz. I've been watching you for years now :)

I get it. When your irl life is stressful and requires all your energy to maintain, its hard to play a game like Eden ring bc it's so stressful. It's not really a game you can sit back and relax to play. It requires your focus and attention and when you're exhausted at the end of the day, that's a lot to ask for bc you're already running on E. Young gamers won't feel this way but as u get older and more responsiblities burden you, it will get harder and harder to justify the anxiety something will give you even tho you used to enjoy it in the past.

Felt the same as you. Thought I was finally done them but only with AAA games. Every single one I’ve played in the past couple of years felt like an on rails interactive experience where I wasn’t allowed to be creative. Only ones I was playing were esport games. Not even competitively but just to at least have some neurons fire while playing.
So glad Elden Ring has kept the single player genre alive for me. Its not without its problems though imo but it is the closest for me in being perfect.
The dude definitely isn’t in the right state of mind to be playing this game. I’m thinking it’d be better for him to follow his instincts in doing something else that will be of better use of his time. Save the game for another time when shit gets better for him.

Hey i got the same experience like yours, although my turning point or the one that lit up the fun again for soulslike game for me is Nioh 2, i got ER in my backlog i only touch the character creation and the tutorial area and WOW what a beautiful and atmospheric game, but then the sense of scale and the massiveness of it starts to creep up and kinda overwhelmed me so i've put it down immediately.
That's why i'll always keep coming back to play Nioh 2 it got the same hard difficulties but with a more manageable scale, but within that scale is jam pack with a whole lot of neuron activating things, such as the *chef kiss combat, builds, cool weapons and armors, historical figures, myth, folklore stories and so on.
So i've come to a conclusion, i'll keep playing Nioh 2 for power fantasy and a quick neuron activation through blazing snappy combat, and then i'll play Elden Ring for the heavy lore, unmatched atmosphere, and the slowly digesting take your time bit by bit playthrough. So now i'm happy to know that these two games will always have my back if i need a good dosage of good soulslike experiences. And lastly with confidence i'll say, it's a good time to be alive as a soulslike lover.

I used to love hard games, but as i have gotten old i find myself only playing games to relax, spending hours beating a hard boss is no longer rewarding to me, it just feels like i wasted those hours.
Bloodborne is the last game i actually enjoyed playing for the challenge, since then i have gravitated towards easier games, i gave up on sekiro after four hours.
I was going to skip elden ring entirely until i kept reading about how good the world building and exploration was, i wanted to experience the game but i did not want to spend hours upon hours getting wrecked, so i installed a easy mode mod for the pc version and i looked up the most busted weapons and broken builds, that combined with the summoning ashes has make elden ring a surprisingly relaxing and enjoyable experience.

I feel like I went through something similar mid-8th generation, before that I was a completionist (for most games at least) I valued the content squeeze and the satisfaction of capping off a game with some amount of finality (ie I reached 100% and am thus finished with the game and I don't need to go back). Then real life happened and I found I couldn't do that anymore, I fell into a deep depression figuring maybe I just didn't like videogames anymore until I tried embracing techniques I rejected before instead of valuing completion I instead tried to be in the present absorbing what is happening and not thinking about the game in totality, I stopped goal posting my own play and decided to play to see what happens (emergent gameplay was always there, I just lost sight of it past lame achievements and pointless percentiles).

I like to absorb my games, and I play in little chunks. My backlog is massive already, I don't need to blow through them (not that there's anything wrong with enjoying playing like that).
Like I know I can play however I damn want but the constant pressure to finish, finish, finish can really get to you, you know? Ironically I'm more likely to complete games if I'm not playing to complete them... I hope that makes sense lol

The conversation around “builds” is actually an interesting one. I find I enjoy the souls games more near the end, when I have my build tailored to how I want to play. The start of these souls games is so different from the end game. I never know what to do with my stats because I don’t know what weapons are available and it leads me down the path of worrying about my stat points constantly. It really pushes me towards googling builds that exist and following them so I don’t have to worry about that. Compared to the endgame where I know exactly what I need and feel godly doing it. I always understood people who have a hard start with any of these games and I think that has something to do with it.

Yeah, int definitely has a tough start to this game. Faith spells are sold by a character you naturally find in the main hub, but the only merchants that sell int spells are hidden away in fairly obscure locations. I started as a prisoner, and I had a terrible time until I watched a guide said to use Carian Slicer, Meteorite Staff, and Moonveil. After that, I didn't need a guide anymore, and the rest of the game was up to me to figure out. Spell builds are really unfriendly to new players in this game with how they hide away merchants and spell books.

This is purely my personal opinion, but I've always felt that if people feel the need to Google builds, then the system is flawed.
I don't find issues with people wanting to use the best build, if they would rather have someone else do the work for them, then that's on them. But if people feel like they can't enjoy the game much or are to worried about not placing stats efficiently, then there is a problem here.
I wish games would let people look up overpowered builds to make the game easier for themselves, or choose to randomly place the stat points and still make it through the game without hating the experience.

    • @thatstandoe5499
      @thatstandoe5499 Před 2 lety +5

I love the idea of builds but I think in most dark souls game you almost get too many options, whereas it makes too difficult to pick something that not only you like but also is a weapon that isn't bad.
For example, I'm torturing myself playing dark souls 2 again, because I never finished it, I'm now in the late game and I'm playing with a bandit axe, but what I've come to realise because of my friend is that this weapon isn't so good, I've looked for different axes but those just don't feel as fast and good to use (correct me if my friend is wrong).
So finding something can be almost unnecessary difficult.
That's where I think bloodborne really shines, basically every weapon is viable (of course some are way stronger than others) and because of the tricking system it really gives so much variety to all weapons.

what exactly constitutes “pvp meta” is pretty danged up in the air right now. some say 125, other say 150... (the polls i’ve seen show more people want 150, but old youtube duelers want a lower level... mostly in my opinion cuz their zweihander with bloodhound step works at any level 🙄😏) still others want people to duel at 80, and while i think invading is great at that level, invading at all levels currently plagued with afk rune farmer everywhere.
i’d honestly make a few builds at a few of different levels and just see what works for what you want cuz there are millions of people playing right now, way more than ds3 had in its entire lifespan. so i honestly wouldn’t worry about “meta” level, cuz it’s far from set in stone (despite what some will say), and there are Rivers of Bullsh!t (pun FULLY intended) at all levels

I feel this pretty hard. That feeling of "i am becoming acutely aware of how little time I have" is beginning to hug my neck like a turtle neck sweater: not threatening but i feel it all the time constantly. It's beginning to permeate and shape every aspect of my work/life balance. I enjoy difficult-bordering-on-unfair games but I'm gravitating towards 2D platformers for that fix because they tend to have bite sized challenges. Like something I can play for and hour or less and accomplish literally something. Because of this and the (relatively) extremely prohibitive cost of most open world games (seriously, I make a teachers salary without the benefits when tips are good, so like 40-60$ for a single game is just out of the question when that's literally my grocery budget for a week or two), I don't know if I'll be playing another open world game especially if its punishingly difficult until I either get another job making much more money (in theory this would give me more time but who knows), I win the lottery, or a sugar mama wants me (for some reason).

I've been using magic, summoning, all the things you're apparently not "supposed" to do (even though it's all in the game to be used) because these days I just have zero time for that purist mindset. As a result, I've been having an absolute blast just playing my way-something that definitely wouldn't have been the case had I been under time pressure, and not allowed myself the time to reroll my character about ten hours in as you describe. The game is purpose built to be approached in whatever way you feel like-a design that doesn't necessarily jive well with the Content Churn we often find ourselves mired within. With that in mind, saying "I'm not going to play this like I did with prior games" can feel like a big deal. At the end of the day though, I'm sure when you come back to it and find your own style of play that works for you, you're probably going to love what this game has to offer.

This video feels less like you're talking about your struggle with playing Elden Ring and more your current life struggles, and honestly, I know exactly what you're talking about. There was a time in my life where I didn't have a care in the world and I could sit down for hours on end and just play a game without having to worry about how my time on that game might impact my life. Fast forward some years later, and I'm 22 years old with actual responsibilities and currently faced with a potential problem that could change all of my life plans and potentially change who I am as a person. I'm terrified, so terrified, and I struggle to even do anything sometimes without having a mini-heart attack or without finding myself worried about something hasn't even happened yet and may actually never happen.
And yet, here I am, playing Elden Ring with almost 175 hours in - games like this are able to make me completely forget my outside life and just focus on having fun. Something I might recommend for you is to occupy yourself while you play, such as listening a video in the background on something you may be interested in, or better yet, hop in a call and do some invasions with friends. This game does include jolly cooperation after all. I feel for you and whatever you or anybody else may be going through in life, but in my short 22 years on this earth, if I've only learned one thing its this: I've faced all kinds of problems for the past 22, many of which I thought would completely ruin me, but here I am today - still standing. That's how I know I can go on - because I've done it many times before.

As much as I like the game and how it's made, by playing it for the first 5 - 10 ish hours I also realized that I like the classic desing of the other souls games more, the game feels too big sometimes, and as much praise everyone can give to the open world, there is some grade of repetition in the landscape and the enemies, by far the best parts are the main locations.I beat the 2nd big location today (i think it's where the game wants you to go), the mage academy, and when I realized I had to go back to the open world it was not a good felling. I don't think it's the game fault, is just simply that one of the things I liked form previous form software games is that it was not another open world game, yet you were incentivated to explore and there were always interesting rewards and fun things in every corner.
For sure From soft put an example of how an open world game has to be done, but it's impossible even form them to escape some of the tropes of this oversaturated genre, I really hope that his next project returndo to the more metroidvaia style design.

I think it’s natural to have phases where you want a hardcore challenge and phases where you just don’t have the energy to enjoy it properly and that’s fine, this game is a big fat commitment so you shouldn’t play it until you’re really in the mood for it.

It's specifically interesting to me how the harshness of the world & the game are detrimental to you coping with how insane reality has become. For me personally Elden Ring dropped at a particular low point in my life and helped so much.
I know it was like a month ago, but I was dealing with a marriage ending and quiting my job bc I couldn't emotionally handle it with everything going on (including the apocalypse still happening).
And nothing could distract me. Most games just didn't have enough to quiet the thoughts. I tried sex, outdoor adventures, etc. But I couldn't help but obsess. And I played the other Fromsoft games already so many times they could be played on autopilot by me.
And then Elden Ring dropped. And I bought it day one. And immediately I was hooked. I would get so immersed I'd lose hours without realizing it. One of the most prevelant aspects being the difficulty.
Not only did it force me to pay attention, but it started to feel like my monsters were these oppressive but physical beings I could defeat. That with enough tenacity and tries I could literally kill them. And while I can't do that irl and the monsters are more emotional and mental, for a few hours a day it felt like I could.
And over the last month my mental health has improved significantly. Bc I actually get a break from all the stress for a bit during the day. So it's fascinating you had the opposite reaction but it makes sense.
But I also appreciate you understood this is your personal taste and situation and didn't try to make this objective issues with the game like so many critics.
And I do agree with a lot of your issues and personally find Elden Ring to be on the lower end of my Fromsoft tier list bc the frustrations are more pronounced to me than the other games.
But I still love it. And it's ok if other people don't.

For me, as a 24 year old who's unsure of where they're heading in life, Elden Ring has come at a time where I'm not sure I feel comfortable putting as many hours into this world as I'd like to.
When I first experienced DS1, it was at a time when I could feel no worry or fear over enveloping myself in everything the game and its world had to offer.
Nowadays though, it feels like attentiveness to my own life has to take precedence over the escapism and wonder that this game could provide.

But for some reason elden ring is one of the most fun experiences I've had in any game. The feeling of exploration and discovery is just unmatched, it almost reminds me of something like outer wilds.
That being said, playing an Int character has been miserable and swapping to a punchy, no shield idiot was the best decision i've made in a while. This game heavily punishes you for trying to stay far away from enemies, and despite the buffs to shields it's still easier to just roll.

I had no clue about anything, I also didn’t get my horse until about 5 or 6 hours in, and I didn’t use a summon or anything until I hit level 30+ because i didn’t even know what they were and was confused by them. I’m still unsure what all the fingers do, as well as I have no clue what most items do. I recently spent all my runes on spells I ended up not being able to use because I don’t have the particular weapon to cast them, and they also aren’t very good for my type of play style as I came to find out by looking it up online. I spent 2 hours fighting the first main boss of the story and every time I died I almost quit. It's the moment where the game will finally click for you or you bounce off completely. If you went straight down the main path to the first major boss, you'll learn that if you're not exploring and finding useful tools, bashing your head over and over is not going to work. I was fairly lucky in the sense I have never had any interest in making the souls games harder than I want them to be! I hope you can learn to love it.

100% relatable. This is not a game that you can "optimize" your time in unfortunately. I can't tell you how many times I was stuck on a boss for several hours, slowly realizing that all those hours of attempts could be put into other games that I could actually finish/make more videos on/be "worth my time". Like you said, that line get's blurry between playing for fun and playing for content. Elden Ring is greedy and it demands you fully devote your attention to it to make any kind of real progress. I do think it's worth all the effort in the end, but the toll it takes on you is substantial.

Everytime I didn't beat a boss after 3-4 tries, I just went away and started to explor stuff, got stronger while doing that and came back later to that boss and deafted it more easily. Tbh, it's basically your own fault, trying a boss like 5-6hrs, instead of doing other stuff in the game.
And this is also why, Elden Ring is so much better than previous titles. Because you can just go exploring and do other stuff, or finding a easier boss etc.

As someone who mained an int build and started astrologer like you, Int is nothing its built up to be. Theres about 5 actually useful spells in the game, the rest dont do anywhere near as much damage as they should. The spell variety is very limited, and 60% of my now 90 hour playthrough was spent only using the Glintstone pebble, because its fastest spell and does the most damage for the least mana cost.
Meanwhile, Faith has a plethora of spells, tons of variety and status effects, an entire vendor for awesome themed spells and can be used for very little cost. Melee/faith build is what im doing now on my alt character and im having way more fun and variation than my main. Definitely reroll, you wont regret it.

    • @mr.protagonist5639
      @mr.protagonist5639 Před 2 lety +7

This is complete misinformation. Most of the faith spells are garbage. They cost too much and have way too long a windup-up for the damage they do. Faith scaling on weapons is pretty bad too. Faith as a whole needs to be buffed so I definitely wouldn't recommend using it for now unless you want to make things even harder. Plus many of the int spells have been rebalanced with more damage and smaller costs in fp so the whole 5 spells thing hasn't been true for about a week.

If you play it blind, that's impressive and kinda crazy, lol. I occasionally look at Item guides and with that help, it's honestly pretty chill most of the time but yea, it's definitely a time sink. The game rarely, if ever, forces you to tackle an intense boss or area. The first boss Margit, you don't even need to go into the castle to fight him. Just hang to the right outside the castle and it takes you to a massive section of the map that basically connects to everything else. You can just dick around with a buddy in coop for like 40+ hours before you even bother to take on the first boss. You'd find something new each time too in those 40 hours. The game is insanely massive. Even solo it's super chill, there's NPC Summons and Spirit Ashes that are basically side kicks, makes the game a breeze if you're at a decent level. Tons of grace points too, you rarely have to back track long distances and even then, you have a horse than can double jump, you can literally just jump over enemies if you don't feel like fighting them, lol.

@KingK I discovered the hidden cliff path that lets you skip Stormveil Castle in the first hour of the game and fell in *LOVE* exploring, revealing the map, collecting mats, tagging lost graces, and getting into places above my pay grade. For me bosses are a temporary distraction from exploring! That is the beautify of an open world: YOU decide the priority of Questing vs Exploring.
I found that once I came across a rune farm I was no longer "stressed" about leveling. I could just explore and enjoying the game *at my pace* knowing that if I needed runes it was trivial to collect whenever I needed some quick cash for leveling, spells, crafting, etc.
Many narrative games are like riding a bike with training wheels. One of the reasons _Minecraft_ and _Elden Ring_ are so popular is that the _player_ is in control of the pace of the narrative.
I eventually did get back to the bosses. One weekend it took me 4 hours on a Saturday and another 2 hours on a Sunday to beat the Tree Sentinel at level 14, naked, trying on and off the horse to see which better matched my play style. There is nothing quite like _finally_ beating a boss and learning their telegraphs. For now, I'm taking the bosses on when I need a break _from_ exploring.
With freedom of non-linear gameplay a game can feel overwhelming. *Setting small goals for yourself* is one way to manage the "Squirrel!" moments where it feels like you don't make any real progress.
There will always be meta-builds. I found that instead of worrying about _"Am I playing an optimal build?"_ I found it was better to focus on _"Am I having fun with this build? Are there any other builds I want to try out?"_
Elden Ring isn't for everyone. Part of it is you need to be willing to let go of expectations and ask yourself _What do I want out of the game? What am I willing to invest in?_
Hope you can enjoy the game more in the future.

I played through DS1 in college. As hard as college was, it was still a setting that was a lot more nurturing towards playing a game like DS1. I was at home and the most stressful thing I had to do was study for exams and figure out where I was going to drink on the weekends.
DS3 came out when I had a job, when I had rent and a car payment to pay off. I was already mentally exhausted and as good as that game is, I just haven't been able to get through it. Same with Bloodborne, and when Elden Ring came out all I could do was shrug.
I've moved more towards competitive games as the years went by because at least it's a more organic stress, it's not stress I'm feeling towards a computer program, it's strategy and outsmarting a fellow human. However, even that's started to take a back seat to everything on my plate.

Hey King K, as a fellow fromsoft fan who was incredibly excited about this game... I had a near identical experience as you, and I think I can pick out the underlying reason based on your footage-
Everyone who I have heard who picked sorcery as their go to from the get go has had an INCREDIBLY rough time through the start of it. I usually only played melee builds in the past and wanted to pick up sorcery and see all of the options the game had to offer, but I just found myself failing again and again over and over again feeling incredibly weak and powerless. I couldnt "discover" anything hidden and I felt like I couldnt accomplish anything. I was just suffering over and over again and I felt like I wasnt making any headway whereas my friends were seeing all of this cool stuff. And I felt especially discouraged because sorcery is always advertised as the game's easy mode by players and that felt like... the opposite of my character. Everytime I got stuck with something, I would switch to using a melee weapon and Id still do pathetic damage because my build wasnt made for that.
I really didnt want to restart, but since my girlfriend was getting the game on ps4 I had the option to run a separate build on my ps5 to help her out, and I wanted to do something different again- so I picked Prophet and went Strength/Faith. There was an IMMEDIATE difference. I knew where to go right away and what to avoid, and my 10 hours of middling struggles became shortened to 1 hour of progress where I got further than I ever had knowing what to expect in a fraction of the time. That was when I felt like I was playing a souls game again- dark souls 1 specifically. Planning my routes, running past things I didnt care about, grabbing the items essential to my run, and picking off the things I did. Everything was a breeze, and I wasnt afraid of fighting things anymore with my sword and board faith build. And I kind of realized what happened.
This game kind of trashes on people who have been fans for a while. Just like how bloodborne did before for ds1. It preys on the fact that it knows you used to be on top, and dares you to try again, but offers you solutions that our own pride would feel ashamed of picking. But the game is inherently different. Bosses know how to deal with two opponenets, they know how to deal with range, and they have changed the formula from wait your turn to figure out when your turn is/make your own turn. Things did eventually get better for my sorcery build, but being able to use something else that was stronger at the get go made all the difference for me. If you do decide to revisit the game again, I recommend you do try something you're more familiar with.
As for the crippling scale of the world- remember, just like all souls games, a lot of the content there is optional/not made for every build. You might feel like you have to see everything, but more so than any other souls game, this game requires collaboration and hearsay. BIG zelda 1 vibes. The beauty of the game is preserved in the stories we tell each other.
Hope these words were able to help you. Whatever choice you make for yourself will be the correct one, thanks for the video and I hope things turn around for your mental health. Been in a rough patch myself and this game definitely didnt help at first lmao

Sorcery, at least for me, has never been very fun as a starting build. I always reserve it for ng+, when I already have all the fun tools and am not forced to use the weak starting spell 100 times in a minute. Now, if you aren't against using guides, there's the option of beelining to some great options very early on (gravity magic in particular seems more fun than basic sorceries in the early game)

When bosses repeatedly crumple from just spamming r2s and jump attacks so you can crit fish, and then people just ignore the challenges that come from being a magic user, its very annoying. It honestly feels like an echochamber that people refuse to acknowledge because "muh strength is the real mans way to play". Im glad that because of the changed to balance and because of the variety of options in the game, more people are becomming aware that every build simply has its strengths and weaknesses

      @joaoluizkfsantos8392 Před 2 lety +2

I believe part of the problem is that pure magic builds are a lot less interesting to watch. So for those that "play" by watching streams, seeing a mage blast a boss from 200 meters away is less engaging, and leads to them complaining with the streamer (and by extension, the rest of the magic players).
And it's true, all builds have their strengths and weaknesses (all builds should invest heavily in Vigor tho, 60 vigor is the real easier mode now), but I feel sorcery specifically has the highest of highs and lowest of lows.
Some fights are absolute jokes with things like comet azure, others will stick to you like glue and destroy your puny wizard.

@@joaoluizkfsantos8392 I also think it has a lot to do with the pvp side of the community, people getting frustrated with moonveil without really knowing how to deal with it. I did get a lot of tools that were helpful later on, but they definitely still werent free wins. Comet Azur is great but you need 60 int to even use it and its semi hidden without guides (which is how I played for the most part). To those who know all of the games secrets of course magic is going to come up stronger with all of that inserted in your skull, but honestly for the most part becauss I didnt really have the greatest casting speed and I was doing a spellsword build, more often than not if a boss was too much I would two hand the darkmoon blade and act like a melee build with the occassional spell in case I could actually get away with a ranged attack.

I found this to be very interesting because your thoughts and idea very much reflected my own, but in a very "twisted mirror" way. I'm currently dealing with anxiety, depression, and a myriad of other issues I won't go too deep into, but I see Elden Ring and the Souls series as "so wonderfully optimistic" and "relaxing" in comparison to the soul crushing (what a pun) reality that I exist in, that the main reason why I'm soon having over 500 hours into this game and I stream it five days a week, is because it allows me to breathe, relax, and escape to a world where things are "better". I find my own hope for my own well-being, the reality I exist in, or reasons for living so fragile and vanishing, that the hope that I cling onto, is in the video game most people would define as "soul-crushing".
I really liked the video, and I felt like I understood why you reasoned you couldn't play the game. I wish you the best of luck on your life and I hope things will get better in due time!

Strength/Faith heavy stat distribution at the start, starts the game with a heater shield that blocks 100 physical damage. I found it very easy to ease myself back into this style of game with this class. Regardless of which class you choose, good luck in your travels of the lands between, fellow Tarnished!

It sounds like the game came out at just the wrong time for you and that's okay. Maybe step away for now and come back when you're in a better place mentally.
Personally I've always liked Soulsborne games but they honestly exhaust me with their difficulty. It's tough to play through them and I still haven't fully finished one. I've reached the end of both Bloodborne and DS2 but I just didn't finish them cause I honestly just didn't feel like it oddly enough. As much as I enjoyed those games, it's hard for me to want to go back because they can be so exhausting.
In this context, Elden Ring has been very interesting for me because despite not even playing a from soft game for maybe 5 years it hasn't felt too exhausting despite it's length and general difficulty. I've been loving it and I love chipping away at it because of its open world design and wide variety of viable and flat out broken abilities makes it so I rarely have to beat my head against a wall. The game does a ton to let you customize the difficulty to your liking via different combat options. If a boss or area is too much of a hurdle, I feel like I can always just go do something else in the game until I feel stronger, more mentally prepared, or just have a busted spirit or summon in another player, or even just found a way to skip a fight entirely. It feels like the game never locks you into one place.
Checkpointing is generous and running past enemies is a viable option most of the time that I rarely ever have to deal with the runback to a boss if I at least know where to go. Elden Ring gives so many tools to just break the game that it feels very deliberate and flexible. I can't say for sure if I'll finish the game myself but I know I'm gonna keep chipping away at it for quite a while longer.

Honestly, I'm about 90ish hours in and towards the end game: It feels quite a lot harder to complete than previous souls games. Difficultywise I'd put the last few bosses I've encountered right at Ringed City / Old Hunters level of challenge. So maybe be prepared for that. But there's so much game until then to discover that you might not even mind.

yeah doesn't work for this game especially, in the old games I never even thought about my build until the end of the game, I just used a straight sword and a shield or I'd use a claymore. Tried that with this game and got bored and felt like the game wasn't working for me. Started seeing all these builds online and switched and it became more fun but now I'm constantly trying to optimize my build because the game is so hard especially late game that I feel like half the difficulty comes from not using the right build for the right boss which is crazy cause you can only respec a few times.
