Best video I’ve seen so far that explains exactly what to expect when you have to replace your gimbal bearing. Awesome job sir!

Thank you very much, not only on the alignment but also how to recognise the gimbal bearing type. Wasnt sure on which type is on mine but now I do. Thanks again, very very helpful.

Good video. Thanks for mentioning freezing bearings to help reassembly. We did that with gears in the navy to help make new gears fit in a pump.

    Great video.
We used to use liquid nitrogen to freeze bushings and bearings that were a tight fit. They just drop right in and go klink. Not suitable for every application obviously, but fast and effective.

Mine had a slight resistance after doing (a lot of) adjustment to the engine mounts, but I think that was the new oil seal behind the bearing, not sure. Because after that initial slight resistance (took 2-3 fingers to push), I could bottom it with just 1 finger.

Si no esta bien alineado , puede producir bibraciones y falta de potencia en el motor por tener una excesiva friccion? Un saludo y gracias por su video

Would you suggest putting in the gimble bearing before engine alignment? How do I install the bearing with the tool if the engine is already in, and not in alignment? If I have to pound the bearing in, and the engine alignment is off, the bearing would go in crooked, would it not?

So it would be a very bad idea to change the bearing with the engine removed?

Thanks for your video. I'm guessing you're a machinist? "V Block", "Witness Marks", Those are words my dad used! Perfectly drilling a bar like that is near impossible without the right tools. A file helps to make the initial flat spot and a punch goes a long way to keeping the bit on center, but a drill press and V block (and vise) are a must. Why didn't your tool come drilled?

Apparently the depth is different for different engines. I was totally frustrated trying to figure out what the bolt through the disc was for when I received the tools with NO instructions. I had to spend hours looking for videos showing how to use the tool.

and there's no adjustment on the inner transom plate and the bell housing where the two bolts attached the two that's not adjustable and the only adjustments you have are the front two motor mounts.

the reason the bearing didn't come in a quicksilver box is because that bearing has nothing to do with Mercruiser the only thing they have to do with it is they use itand another thing that bearing can be bought without the carrierI can't remember the part numberbut everybody's beating these carriers in and out of the housing and you don't have tothere's two slots cut in the carrier that's wide enough to stick the bearing in sideways you twist your old one sideways pull it out put the new one in take your alignment tool stick it in the bearing and twist it up into the carrier I've put hundreds of these in and never had one spin in the carrier yetthe only time I've ever changed the bearing carrier is when someone put it in with the slots forward instead of aft so you couldn't remove the bearingI've gone to Mercruiser schools for years I did this for a living for over 50 yearswhen I started you couldn't Buy any Mercruiser tools unless you were a certified Mercruiser mechanicnow you have these machine shops that are manufacturing these alignment toolsthey're making plug gauges for the stern drives and gear height tools and a lot of these are made in China

Ahoy Jim, this is gold information and I want to thank you for your knowledge and expertise. Working on my out drive and can see the carrier was installed backwards. You are saying to leave the carrier in place because it is not worn out and just spin the bearing and slide it out of the slots. This can only be done if the carrier is not installed wrong.
      Thanks again.

this is exactly the reason I don't go on anybody else's boat
when people start talking about changing the bellowsare doing any drive workI'm always busy when he asked me to go for a boat ride or go fishing I've seen quite a few Bellows replacement that the Bellows actually slipped off the outer transom plate or it's slipped off the bellhousingI've seen these put on with silicone instead of bellows adhesivethere's a procedure for putting that Bellows onand you're probably not going to find it on CZcamsor with some backyard guy trying to show you how to do it correctly according to him
