  • I was EXHAUSTED for this one, been testing a buttload of discs, but I figured if the rules are sound we will still hit the goal. Everybody has bad days, including me!

    This series is exactly the type of content that I want! It's like a deep-dive course into technique... but free.
    P.S. Adding chapter/section timestamps would be a nice improvement.

    Love the videos. I like the 2nd camera angle a lot too. I would like to see all those videos you mentioned at the end, as well as some slow motion and maybe a dedicated slow motion video of your throw so I can watch it on repeat (like a 6 second clip essentially)

    I was one of those recent subs, I've played 20+ years and always had some accidental weeks of good flight followed by months of nose up dead timing...in those time always struggled with tips and drills to break down to the basics and build back up, the stand still drill is a great start to that, thank you! And on this video, The nose angle as a result of the rip out really makes sense when I see it happen.

    2 Things I forgot to mention that might help!
    For release point - Head position can help! If you're looking forward too early it can cause a less solid release point than keeping your head looking straight in front of you.
    For nose angle - Suitcasing. Alot of people I work with learn to keep their elbow up by suitcasing the disc either to reachback or all the way to the hit. It's a great way to help your body stay in the correct orientation, albeit slightly less simple and with more moving parts.

    Definitely would like to see some course play, you will always have non believers, but I've been standstill since I started and every time I try to change to a run up I get noticeably worse, you confirming my bias that a run up isn't necessary for majority of people and even possibly a hindrance on beginners.

    Great content; first video was especially timely for me. I got the hips all figured out, after years of effort. Can't believe its me when I watch the video. But the speed is still low -- 57mph. My arm gets stuck behind me. Tried many things, but I think resetting the swing plane (video 1) is just what I need. Thank you so much for putting these together.
    Would LOVE for you to talk through what you are feeling especially in your arm -- maybe its automatic enough you don't feel anything. But every time I get a new break through it usually FEELS different than I expected, and I found the advice from pros on what they feel at various points in their throws not only very helpful, but also very rarely given for some reason. Everyone talks about mechanics, I think its an untapped area for content especially since most of the best coaches don't throw 500 themselves.

    Excellent tutorials! Sound is much better on this video and there’s no distracting ambient noise. New camera angle works very well too!
    The way you explain things and the language you use connects well with the way I learn things and I appreciate the different perspective! It’s also seems easier to grasp when I see someone similar to my own body type doing the mechanics.
    I’ve played for a long time recreationally and have really been trying to push my distance towards 400ft, but have been struggling with my brace, coiling, and reach back. I think my brain defaults to “I’m strong, so hulk this thing” at the last moment. I second guess my grip and struggle to not manually release the disc instead of it being ripped from my hand. I think you covered about all of that between the two videos and I’m excited to practice as soon as weather permits!
    I’m forehand dominant and do those from a standstill. I maybe top out at 350 on those; would love to see how you set your stance up for forehands!

      Forehand soon! Takes a lot more out of my elbow to full power practice it so I’ve been keeping it once a week or so. Glad my coaching style helped!

    Excellent videos. All is well-explained. Never noticed the rain until a shot where we were seeing all of the net and the surface of the deck, so sound is fine.

    I believe you might mean to say the front foot is perpendicular...unless there is a different reason to say it is parallel to something other than the line to the target.

    Just started watching your channel, mostly because I ordered a tekdisc and am learning more about how to use it while waiting for delivery. I appreciate the effort, you are very good. Very few "ums and ahhs" Professional. I recently noticed that if I take my pinky off my power grip I can get a bit more nose down. Also, a really neat thing you could do is develop a spreadsheet or chart that would suggest the best molds, weights and plastics for what arm speeds. Smart guy like you could prolly wrap that up in a weekend, no? JK, thanks for the channel!

    Lots of good tips. These pseudo-one-leg standstill drills look like what Overthrow has put out recently, and a bit like Trebuchet's bracing drills, and I did find it does help with stopping me from facing forwards at release and getting deeper pocket. Picked up a net recently. Now I just need tips to convince my wife I need to drop $300 on a TechDisc lol.

    Good stuff, glad youtube clued me in. I think a format of shorter focused videos that progress and build on each other would be great. I don't see a lot of talk of programming your training and I can tell you have experience with that kind of thing and could be helpful.

    Great video would to see directly down the line camera angle on a couple stand still throws to see the reach back and down the line of the throw.

    Great content, your site is like where the pros would say to go to learn how to get to throw like a pro, their private V.I.P. site.
    Would like to request ,when you throw, what your feeling through your throws are, do you feel the disc ripping out of your grip at a certain location? do you feel the disc is like pulling a weight lagging behind? Coming out of the power pocket, is your chest centered while throwing out, and then your shoulders turn? Thanks

      Definitely. I watched something once that says your off arm takes on the role it needs to in your throw and really liked that idea. Trying to shove it in a box always made my throw worse!

    Do you only do standstill or do you plan to cover run up too? I think im going to go back to standstill and try to imitate this video. I notice my pocket isnt very tight compared to watching this video and seems like it would give me alot of power from just shadow throwing . Your back leg is positioned based on what angle you want to throw?

      Runup will be in the future. I personally only throw standstill currently but plan to break 75 mph with that and then start the runup work!

    I was trying standstill with my Techdisc and only getting mid 40's. Any advice to get my speed up?

      Pseudo one leg timing work. Short sessions each day or every other day. It's not JUST about the strength of one of your muscles. It's about timing them all to combine at exactly the right moment. We are all pretty strong when we use a bunch of muscles in symphony. It takes alot of practice to sharpen those movement patterns and get the timing to click! Sleep to print the pattern and repeat until it's sharp as hell.
