  • This is my honest opinion on DDJ-1000SRT. I bought it from American Musical and would not post my review so I thought it was important to make a quick video. I am a full time working DJ for 30 years and not a reviewer so excuse the bad production.

    Thank you so much for this!
    I’ve been weighing up what to buy for ages, as I have a very basic controller at the moment, but have started playing more regularly and better venues.
    This has honestly sealed my decision as far as the SRT goes.
    Now I just have to decide wether to stick with Serato in general and go for something like the SX2/SX3 or take a leap with Rekordbox and have the 1000

    Appreciate your realness brother...I was seriously considering buying one of these until watching this! All the other reviews/reviewers glossed over a lot of what you bought up! Presently I have a Denon MC4000, just got back into DJ-ing after 23 years, it's been a great little entry level controller to see if I want to continue...& I do, so now I'll look at the Denon Prime or perhaps the SX-3, Once again thanx for the heads up, Respect!

      Yo.. I have the SRT, and I never find myself longing for the extra effects. I just don't miss them. And really, I don't need waveforms in the jogs either. What I need, and have, is pure cdj / nexus feel, in a Serato controller. And the shit works FLAWLESSLY with Serato. I've had it for 7 months now and haven't had a single issue that wasn't my own fault (like accidently setting the top of the channel to usb B and not realizing why the fucki g channel was "in use" when it wasn't. Lol.
      But yeah.. There isn't a better feeling controller for serato at the moment. This dudes opinion is just that..

    Going to echo a lot of other comments in thanking you for your honest and critical review. I have been seriously considering upgrading to this controller from the Hercules Impulse 500. Looking for something a little more "grown up" and for a Serato controller as I have been getting deep into that software. The SX3 is attractive for the Flip buttons as well as Serato effects, although I do like the onboard effects. Thinking of saving my pennies for the Rev7 and would really like to see a review from you on that one. Thanks again. Great points made that others have not identified or highlighted.

    Man I use Traktor and this pisses me off too. Pioneer and Serato had a chance here to do some ground breaking collaboration to push dj'ing forward a step. But instead of getting the best of both worlds, they got the worst of both worlds.
    I'm not even a midi mappig expert, and I could have mapped that 1000 better than that. In fact, there's a few videos with guys mapping it to Traktor. And they did a nice job. The only thing is those screens are proprietary to Pioneer so they couldn't get those to work.
    But yeah like a lot of comments have said, this review was madd honest and on point. I wished every youtube reviewer would do the same.

    Thank you for this review. If I were buying new I would have been tempted by this, but I since I'm going used I'm leaning towards an sx3 that I can get for $325 less than any used DDJ-1000. I'm replacing a DJ-808 that died. I can live without my Drum Machine, but I'm not ready to leap backwards from full Serato support.

    @DJ-Coma Před 5 lety +4

    Thank you for going in depth on this. I have yet to see any other review mention that the internal software FX are NOT post-fader in this controller. I have the DDJ-SZ and that is the one thing that has always irked me about it, although I understood why because it was the first controller that was also a full-on “hardware mixer” so the faders were doing more than the other controllers where the faders were only sending midi to the software.
    The fact that they were able to overcome this on the SZ2 and the RekordBox version of the 1000 just shows that Pioneer really half assed this controller and rebranded it for Serato with as little effort as possible.
    If I do decide to get a 1000 it will absolutely be the RekordBox version thanks to your review.

    I bought this controller myself and I must say the hardware and color fx are killer. It’s very lightweight and compact for a 4 ch controller prob the smallest 4 ch controller there is on the market with bigger jogwheels than the SX series. As for the looping you can easily midi map it like an sx,sz model which is what I’ve done. I was quite surprised to find the controller does not work with usb power at all unless you have the power adapter connected. I was under the impression all controllers operated with single usb power like my SR2, Primo controllers. Nope apparently this one needs more power. However the hardware fx blow SDJ’s izoptope fx out of the water. Hardware fx are better anyways no cpu so if you’re on a weak machine then this just increases your chances of less dropouts. And overall i think it has a great soundcard. Still very happy with my purchase👌🏼💥

    So effin true about the display. I went and trade in for the DDJ 1000. The display screen on the DDJ 1000 is very helpful for scratching. I hate how when I press a cue pad the reference line goes straight to 12 o'clock every time on the SRT

  • @Mr_Boykin
    @Mr_Boykin Před 4 lety

    I switched from the NS7 line and it doesn’t have post fade FX either. But the DDJ 1000 native fx does have it and it’s all on board and they are simple to use. I mostly bought this for the light weight and the jog wheels. The NS7 was cool for awhile but as I’m getting older and my gigs have increased a lot the NS7 is started to weigh as much as a Buick! I considered the SZ2 but I looked at the weight and it’s only slightly less heavy than the NS72. I agree overall with your criticism of the unit but I feel that it’s just a matter of either adjusting to the unit or making adjustments to the unit.

      Please let me know how you like it. I'm pretty dumbfounded how they stripped this down from the Rekordbox version. Also no IEC Cable. If you lose or break the power supply you're screwed.

    • @MadCity13
      @MadCity13 Před 5 lety

      Of course they stripped it back from the RB 1000, why would you make a product for another company with all the same functionality as yours. That's just good business. Would Mercedes Benz make a Buick with the same look and feel as a Benz? No! The differences in the software makes it difficult to do the same things from one to the other anyway.
      Serato is more simple ...streamlined by a decade of usability and feedback. Rekordbox has more functionality in the base software. Pioneer Dj is trying to corner the market, their gear is all over the place and they are trying to get people to switch. So making a pro level controller for another software that is as good as their product is not in their best interest. You want all the perks of the 1000(Rekordbox), use their software. It's that simple, make the switch. It might be a pain in the butt if you have a Windows PC(like me), because you can't transfer all your cue points, hot cues and beat gridding over via Recordbuddy. So, I had to go through my library all over again in Rekordbox. It sucked, but now I can use both software and take advantage of all the extra perks on my 1000(need to use Rekordbox for exporting to flash drives anyway). I also have a SX3 and an SR. I prefer Serato, because it's what I started on, but I learned Rekordbox because the 1000 is one of the best controllers on the market.

    Was happy to see this released & bought it right away. It's not a good controllers, the fx situation sucks, the loop feature sucks.

    it would be interesting to compare the sound quality this ddj vs denon or roland as it was the only reason I didnt get sx2, I wonder if they improved it here, other stuff couldnt care less, standart layout and cdj1000 jogs :D

  • @Yourcoinisjunk

    • @DJ-Coma
      @DJ-Coma Před 5 lety +4

      John Aguilar i agree but they also should have had the option to have more stuff on the screens (waveforms with cue points, etc) like the RekordBox version. Fortunately I think that could be possible through firmware and/or software updates but I wouldn’t hold my breath for Pioneer to actually put in that effort.

    100% agree with all your points! people fail to realize all the small details. the looping is the biggest thing for me its so clunky and why u have to keep hitting shift makes no sense at all. the SZ2 is great value u can get them sometimes under 1k now and they are proven controllers. built in power all the expansion packs were built for it and its a true to size nexus setup. if not the SX3 is more portable with same capability.

      DJDUMusic Thank you for putting the scoop out here honestly. I am going to ask two questions of you, since I know you are keeping it a buck. Does the jog wheel accurately translate scratching the way a vinyl 12inch feels on turntables? Second question is would you mind defining post fader effects. I am an OG tech 12 DJ. But, I have used a dennon MC6k for digital purposes, and its acting up, so I am considering best investments. Thanks in advance.

  • @justsomedude1898
    @justsomedude1898 Před 4 lety

    Post fader effects wouldn’t work if the fader is the wet/dry signal. You would just be turning the effect off when you turn the fader off (unless you use the cross fader). That’s just from my understanding though I could be wrong. I bought the controller and it should be arriving in a few days just because I want to learn something as close to the standard CDJ and DJM setup as possible so switching to that is seamless for me

    • @DJDUMusic
      @DJDUMusic  Před 4 lety

      boneburner152 No it doesn’t work that way. Honestly they are releasing a new were version of it in a few months when they fixed all the problems. It’s honestly very dated for the technology that’s out now. Don’t think that this mirrors a pioneer set up because it doesn’t. It’s very restricted in the capabilities of a full Pioneer set up.

    Great imfo. I got this controller and feel way different about it than you It sucks that the effects don't have their own buttons, but it wasn't a deal breaker for me. Coming from a club format of CDJ's and DJM mixer I understand the whole controller layout and it didn't stop me from purchasing it. This is way more mobile than lugging around a SZ2. What I'm trying to say is that Pioneer is giving you a stripped down version than the Rekord controller version at a few hundred more. If I use a external midi controller the 900nxs2 still has post fader effects which I use to layer on top.
