    I agree with alot if what you encountered. I wouldn't go to the XZ tho, unless you switch to Rekordbox or use USB flash drives IMO.
    Both this 1000SRT & the XZ also don't have post faders for Serato FXs which is a big missed opportunity.

    Thanks!
    Btw there is a crossfader adjust but it's buried in a "Utilities" menu which is tricky to load from the FX display menu - when hardware (laptop) is disconnected (!). its also where other settings are hidden - such as "master attenuator" that solved my issue of distorted/overpowered sound. For some reason the sound output varies depending on the type of system you are playing on (!).
    All of these settings are a giant pain in the butt and not practical for djs who are live at a gig and want to adjust the settings to their own preferences. Dont forget to click your heels three times, twirl and secret handshake to get to the utilities menu, gahhhh.

    I had the ddj-1000 then later the ddj-1000srt- you nailed the review. Everything you said about the controller is 100% correct. The ddj-1000 worked a little better but the soundcard is not good at all - that was my biggest issue with the ddj-1000s. Good controller but overrated- sold them both and moved on to a djm-s11 with tables.

    I think it must be some kind of perfectionism OCD, or idk. 28 years ago, when i bought my first equipment, it was belt drive turntables, and a 2 channel battle mixer with no gain/trim on channels. No bpm counter, fluctuating vinyl speed, and so many things recent young djs have no clues about. And we still knew, how to mix, and have party. Technics users quickly learned, that they must touch thing gentlier, but they got used quickly. Now after 28 years, i bought a ddj sr2 controller, and its a miracle comparing to what i had. About sound quality, try to test your hearing first to see, what range you actually can as a DJ still hear. Most of us will cease to hear sounds somewhere between 16-18 kHz, which for stereo makes 36 maximum. 44,1 should be well past your hearing range. There must be something else causing your sound quality issues, maybe software?

    Why are you even comparing this to a CDJ PIONEER NXS SET UP? It's a 3rd of the price. If you want 96khz then pay the extra 6k to get that set up. Also, you can midi map the looping section It's so easy. It's ridiculous that you're comparing a £1300 controller to a £6000 pro CDJ set up.

    • @djoccult
      @djoccult  Před 3 lety +1

  • @patrickbernard5458
    @patrickbernard5458 Před 2 lety +10

    Been through quite a few of pioneers controller and standalones. And tbf yeah, the ddj 1000 is kind of cheap feeling.. When you compare it to a $10k cdj 3000 setup. Most of the issues i hear from folks boils down to them not being able to abuse the controller. I've now had the ddj 1000 for Rekordbox since before its release (got a early review unit) It holds up great. No floppy faders or knobs on mine yet,, I also take care of my equipment which shows..
    As for the sound of the mixer i think its more placebo effect. Or your main mixer to the PA is not setup correctly. Ive used the 1000 for soundchecks on everything from Triple zone line array setup at concerts and festivals,,,, to Sound culture events and ive never ever heard a sound tech complain about the quality of sound.. It might also boil down to people not having tracks above 320kps.. If i cant get a track in FLAC or at least 1400+ kpbs i generally don't use it at anything but Parties and "mobile dj" events.
    But if you absolutely have to get another controller i would strongly recommend ditching Serato and getting either a xdj rz or a ddj rzx and run Rekordbox.
    I haven't met a dj that honestly do not prefer the rzx over a full cdj setup after trying it. Sucks its not a standalone controller but hell. most people now a days see the value in playing from a laptop. If standalone is a must the xdj xz is a genuinely awesome unit. High quality solid piece of kit (we dumped our xdj rx the second i saw the xz)
    For me at least and the event company we run only 3 setups. CDJ's for the main events. Rzx for basically every in house dj cause we all love them. Xdj xz for space saving and if USB is a must. We got 3 cdj setups. 2 3000 series and 1 2000nsx. with 4 rzx and a couple xz's.
    Cdj's have all been serviced 2 or 3 times so far (A lot of "Known" djs absolutely treat event equipment like crap) wile none of our Controllers have needed anything replaced in 5 years (All our in house djs are taught from the start that equipment is something you take care of.) Even the first rzx we bought in 2015 had only had cue and play buttons replaced cause the damn plastic almost wore through,, The buttons worked fine!!
    Bottom line is. "You get what you pay for" The ddj 1k is a best in class controller at that price point no doubt. But it is a "Cheap" Controller. Though most of your issues could be resolved with learning a bit of midi mapping and possibly getting a new laptop and a service on the controller!
    Great barebone honest review. Love the no sugar coating and your own point of view. For many the midi issues wouldn't be an issue but I can easily imagine how this would annoy the crap out of someone who might not play around with settings a lot.

    That's what happens when Pioneer electronics leaves the picture and an investment company takes over... As for your USB issues, plug in the DDJ and use the audio outputs with another piece of basic music playback software. Put some music on and wiggle the cables, then just leave it running, if there is any issue with the USB connection it will drop out. If there is no issue the problem may lie more with Serato DJ causing the drop outs. If it's happening after some time there might be some overheating components on the controller. As for other controller options; InMusic (Denon, Numark, Stanton, Akai) seem to be the only one currently investing in DJ hardware, everyone else has scaled back somewhat.

I’ve midi mapped a few things with mine but it just sounds like you’re complaining haha it’s not a bad thing to complain but as I said. It sounds like you’re complaining out of being an inconvenience to YOU rather than the product.

      Its not class compliant and the DAC converters are 48khz, those are valid complaints. It requires high cpu usage when cdjs dont at all. That makes no sense, its all planned obsolescence. Changing midi parameters is going outside of the design. Im criticizing the design. People praise this controller all day long. For 1300$ i dont think it lives up to the hype.

    Apologies for being so late to THIS party. I'm sure you already figured this out, but the fact of the matter is this unit was designed for Rekordbox (it is a Pioneer product after all). I have the original 1000 and was PISSED when 4 months later, the SRT was announced (I'm originally a Serato kat). I wanted the club setup and was willing to learn Rekordbox. It works well as an RB controller. About the Master cue. It's that way with all Serato based gear (the old Big Dawg DDJ SZ2 for example). You have to engage the cue button & turn the know in order to hear. Anyway, I'm glad I got the 1 Grand as it was meant for RB. I think now that Pioneer is putting out (it seems) everything with RB & Serato support,, the issues you experienced are a thing of the past?? Sorry for your not so positive experience.

Back 2 back sets are impossible everytime its tried. No one can just plug in. For it being a best selling controller over 1000$ it really is not usable in a professional setting unless its strictly for personal use. I was having issues when I first hooked this up to my MacBook air... usb dropouts, clicks in the audio.... for 2 days I could not get this to work without issues. I was ready to return it and was very upset....
    Then....
    I swapped out the usb cable that came with it to a better gold plated one ("Amazon Basics" 6' cable belive it or not) and like a miracle, the controller now runs flawlessly. No joke. I can't believe it still that all that shit was because of the cable (at least for me)
    If you're having problems you have to troubleshoot every step before you can find a solution. Before I swapped out the cable, I downloaded different versions, deleted, downloaded again and was very frustrated. Funny how a cable can make a difference.
    I'm usually a Denon guy, but purchased this controller because I'm used to the CDJs at the clubs. The touch capacitive jogs on the sx2 and others were just not cutting it for me and messing up my scratches especially if my fingers were a bit sweaty, so I tried this out. I can absolutely say that after the first time playing a gig with the SRT, I absolutely love it. Like having 2 CDJ 1000s and a mixer (just like at the club) but all in a compact and familiar layout.
    4 gigs so far since I got it, beginning of October 2021, and not a single issue.
    I mapped channels 1 and 4 knobs to the Serato effects, mapped the sync buttons to turn on/off pre-set loops and this thing is now my go to controller for most of my gigs when I don't want to bring the turntables.
    BTW... my buttons are not at all wobbly and the sound card is the same as the sx series and sounds fine to me. Looping is fine and still fun.
    As for the plastic build, that's how Pioneer rolls... over-priced plastic.
    Out of curiosity, why would you be bringing a controller to a big club? Wouldn't the club have all the club standard gear, including a 96kHz or analog mixer?
    You can't compare a $6000+ Nexus system to a $1800 controller and expect the same results. Yes they could have upgraded the sound card but the cost would have been higher. For mobile gigs this controller is more than adequate.

    • @jayrags-soulfiesta4076
      @jayrags-soulfiesta4076 Před 2 lety

      As far as using what's at the club: if the club doesn't have nexus 2 or higher then I don't think you have use Serato. Otherwise it would be nice to just plug in a USB hub to 2 of the club's nexus cdjs and use Serato just like you would be on a controller. You just won't have your possible 8 cue pads.

I also tried lots of other intel macs, they all had the same problem. I just got the new M1 macbook and it works great. It seems apple throttled intel macs with the new big sur upgrade, but my nexus setup still worked just fine in HID mode so this little controller asks for way more cpu than using pro club gear.

    @DVDJUnique Před rokem +1

    Yo.. your review isn’t completely accurate.
    Any dropout related to CPU utilization is strictly related to your computer/files and not the controller. If your having drops, increase the latency or buy a more powerful computer. Also, drop out can be related to the audio file type, compression rate, file size and background tasks…. Not the controller. The controller is nothing more than a sound card and an HID midi controller.
    Second, you state that the cue/master button is an issue. This isn’t a new method. This is how it works on the SX and SZ, so to call it out as an issue with the 1000srt isn’t right.
    Third, your complaint about not being able to use all 4 channels with 2 computers is kinda nuts. The 2 usb connections are intended to tag team a set or for transitions. How and why would you think it’s possible to use all 4 channels with 2 computers. It’s kinda common sense that it would only be 2 channels per computer.
    Idk, I feel this was a very opinionated review and not a far outlook of the controller.. but that’s my .02 cents.

      @djoccult  Před rokem

      other class compliant controllers do fine with any pc, the sx and sz are def worse controllers, you misunderstand being able to use 4 channels, as in 2 each, you can do that on any other controller with layers and 2 usb's except this one. dj can mix 2 decks with the layer button on the right, the other 2 decks with the layer button on the left, typically like with denon sc5000's etc
