      I don't care about the onboard effects really. Not a deal-breaker for me. I know the Serato effects aren't great sound quality, but I don't use effects a lot. The ones I do use are limited and sound fine for what I'm using them for. That said, it would be nice to have good/better effects because I'd probably use them more if they sounded better and were more solid. Just because you might not use/care/rely on effects doesn't mean that people who care about effects are wrong. My main issue with the controller is that it's not mirrored, and it's the same on both sides. I was SO HOPING this would be the controller that would finally getting me to move on from my NS7ii, but I just can't get past that. Not for the price tag. If I was going to have identical decks on each side, I'd get the Denon Prime M series or the Rane 12s - at least that makes sense to me why it'd be "crooked" as Nick says and not mirrored/flipped on the left.

    For everyone wondering, Nick is WRONG on this one. I've used the Rane One at about 5 gigs now and the thing is awesome for what it is. While the effects are not on board they are very efficient especially if you are someone like me that just uses the occasional echo or reverb. Also the filter IS on board and sounds great. So far my only issue is the mic input. Doesn't sound that great but if you're doing a wedding or event you should be running your mic through an external mixer anyway.

  • @DJDAMIAN72
    @DJDAMIAN72 Pƙed 3 lety +22

    The onboard effects on other controllers & mixers are also digital, even hardware effects for musicians are also digital, since at least the 1980's (with very few exceptions).
    I do think it would've been dope to have onboard effects for when hooking up real turntables to the Rane One and playing real vinyl, at least an echo delay but other than that the Serato effects are cool when using Serato with controllers or DVS.
    The only time not having on board effects is a real issue is when you play real vinyl.
    Also I don't understand what this dude is talking about saying the Serato effects suck when they sound good to us who use them, I mainly just use the different echo delays and they sound good to me!
    Now what was pretty lame was him saying it's crooked, does he not understand that it's emulating the feel of 2 actual decks & a mixer, if you have turntables or CDJs they will have the same so called "crooked" design! smh lol
    I've actually seen some reviewers complain about controllers with the "mirrored" design this dude prefers like the Nuwmark controllers have since no 2 turntables and no 2 CDJs would be designed that way.
    People can get used to either one of the 2 designs but if you really think about it if these controllers are emulating turntables & CDJs then the "crooked" design is more logical and more familiar to anyone who has used turntables & CDJs.

    • @DJ-Coma
      @DJ-Coma Pƙed 2 lety +3

      I’m sort of with him in regards to the internal software FX vs onboard hardware FX. I think it may come down to it being that those of us who started DJ’ing with the DJM series mixers (as one example) are so used to how those FX sound that we just don’t like how the Serato internal FX sound. That’s not to say they sound bad, they just don’t have the same feel to them that we’re used to. DJ’s that started DJ’ing with the Serato internal FX aren’t going to have that same bias. Hopefully that makes sense.

    It's 'off center' because the platters aren't mirrored. If you have a regular turntable and mixer setup it would be similar UNLESS you have it set "battle style" (most turntablist and hiphop dj's prefer this so that the tone arm and pitch shift are out of the way) - tbh this is the preferred set up, I hate when controllers are mirrored... years of working with turntables i guess.

    1. The lack of hardware FX is a valid critique at the price point. But for any DJ who cares more about FX than moving platters and build quality, Pioneer's got you covered with the DDJ-1000.
    2. The assymetry of the One's platters looks much worse in photos than it feels in actual use. A bigger issue I've found with the layout is the proximity of deck 2's start/stop plunger to the crossfader. It's only happened once so far, but I did manage to hit stop by accident while cutting with my right hand. It's a bit of strange design choice because on the Twelves and pretty much all turntables, the start/stop is on the other side.

And on board fx are still digital fx lol...there's literally no difference in how they work, one isn't more real then the other lol....i agree the off center sucks, but you get use to it....but i disagree with the "this is for beginner djs who want to look like they use vinyl"...I've seen dmc winning djs like slipwax, and Elliot ness absolutely tear it up on this controller in person....you can't give this type of review until you've actually used it. I just bought one because the Rev 7 is still not readily available and I needed an upgrade. I LOVE IT. you ruined it for me by pointing out the symmetry (or lack thereof lol). But honestly. It feels good, sounds good. The software fx does suck. But the sturdy build and literally everything else about the controller is really good. The fx paddles does make up for it a tiny bit. They definitely missed a few layups on it but overall.... i am very happy with my purchase for what it is. Which is an upgrade for a DJ still in his first years. The platters feel great. But I dont disagree with your take. Its still a great controller.

    I like your videos. But you are complaining about things that are not that important. Its for turntablists that want more portable options. Ans dont use that many fx... The only thing we are not that happy on tge Rane are 2 things. 1 is the location of the pitch control. We would prefer to have it up top, in the upper part of the controller, like in the Rane Twelves . and 2 it needs a little screen that says the values of the fx

      Now wanting effects on the mic and not having them is a legitimate issue, that does make sense.
      But other than the mic effects issue, I totally understand someone preferring on board effects when mixing but to say not having on board effects is a huge issue or a deal breaker sounds pretty silly & exaggerated to me when people can still use the Serato built in effects, it only makes sense to me that it's a big issue for vinyl DJs, because you can't use the Serato effects with vinyl at all.
      Oh yeah and this dude repeatedly calling them "Analog" effects and saying the normal turntable & CDJ emulation design is crooked, both on this video and on a DJ Cleveland Terry video I watched shows me that he doesn't really know what he is talking about! lol

      @@DJDAMIAN72 I don't get the crooked thing đŸ€Ł. My issues with the Rane One are minor ones as they didn't stop me from purchasing one 😂. There are some features like the on board effect that I would have liked to have seen. When comparing it to other controllers in the price range like the DDJ-1000, I would have like to have seen it match and exceed the DDJ-1000 features since it is $300 more. Nonetheless, the moving platters, portability, build quality and Scratch Bank support are hard to beat, especially if you started out DJing with turntables and vinyl like I did. Overall, I love it. It's the best of both a controller and turntables.

This is the first controller that's built like a tank, has legit spinning platters with slipmats, high-end crossfader, and a decent size and weight for portability. Sure it lacks a few features, but as a turntablist, what else can you ask for in a controller?! Much respect, but as a musician and recording/mix engineer for 35 years, most all effects have been digital effects for decades, whether they're from processor in a dedicated box or the processor in your computer. The latter will have more power and gobs more flexibility. Digital audio workstations like ProTools, Logic Pro, Cubase, Studio One, Ableton Live, Cakewalk Sonar, Fruity Loops, etc, have all used software effects processors for a long time. I prefer that it's not mirrored...it's a mixer in the middle with identical decks on the side. When you look at the whole unit, it looks like what it's supposed to look like.

Bait em in with The One and leave em wanting more. It's the InMusic blueprint. We need to understand what analog and digital mean.
    All controllers and mixers have digital effects, no bbd circuit is built into to those digital machines.
    The EQ and section it also digital.
    The quality difference is not the analog/digital war, it’s just bad effects on Serato, which is actually pretty problematic.
    How’s it still bad?
