Besides the style advice, what I really, REALLY appreciate in videos where the both of you are present is the example of a loving, nurturing and kind relationship. You two interact with such kindness, respect and appreciation for each other that is truly inspiring. I hope everyone watching these videos recognize that we all, regardless of our body types and essences, deserve to be treated with the same kindness, generosity and respect as the two if you exude.

I definitely thought I was Left + Up, but I think I'm the Wildflower through and through. I just thought I would be in the Left + Up because of how extravagant I can come off and how much gravity I hold, but truly it's such a natural and intuitive part of me.

Love Helen Mirren as the Seductress! It's helpful to see that archetype in its maturity. I would love more mature references in each quadrant. I feel like a mature reference really grounds or fleshes out the quadrant. When women are in their 20s and 30s they have more wiggle room. Meryl Streep seems like a right down person to me, without thinking about it too hard, even though she' s similar looking to Helen, I'd be curious if you agree.

    • @StyleThoughtsbyRita
      @StyleThoughtsbyRita  Před 2 lety +29

Yes definitely Meryl for right down!
Tbh though I don't observe women in 20/30s having more wiggle room among my clients compared to those in 50/60s, the range seems similar to me

I love being a left down, but this expansion of this archetype makes me more in love and feel more at home being a garnet. I am everything you described to a "t". I love how you chose gemstones and the simplicity of your system is so four seasons to me. I am such a romantic and love the way you are into each other. Thank you for inventing this key type essence system 😊❤

It would be really cool if you eventually discovered archetypes that naturally “straddle” two of the quadrants! I could see it being the case that someone who is down but sort of hovers in between right and left, for instance, might have a distinctive vibe that could be echoed by other women in a similar straddled placement :)
Edit: after watching the whole thing I think you already answered it with the spicy girl next door! I’m so excited about that one because I think that might be me :):)

This expansion on the archetypes was so helpful! When I watched the introduction video to this system I thought I must be a right down woman. However, when I watched the right down video and you mentioned that some women may try to force themselves into the right down and that it works as a form of self-erasure I realized that I am likely doing exactly that. I find the idea of the right down, girl nextdoor essence appealing but I don’t think it has every fully suited me, no matter how hard I’ve tried to squeeze myself into that quadrant. I’ve felt fairly confident that I belong in one of the down quadrants, but when I watched the first left down video I did not relate to the seductress or outsider archetypes so I was very confused about where I fit in the system. However, now that you two have introduced the spicy girl nextdoor archetype I think that the left down quadrant may indeed be where I belong.
I will wait to see the right down expansion video so I can really be sure. But I am excited to potentially stop trying to force myself into a role I just don’t quite fit.

Wild flower ✌ Unless I'm actually on the Up side, so looking forward to Left Up archetypes 😊 It's sometimes difficult to tell the difference between dressing for myself but wanting to look unique and and interesting, and dressing to make an impact but still wanting to look sort of low maintenance. I guess it doesn't really even matter as long as I feel like myself in what I wear.

Rita, Meradj, great job! You actually answered my unasked question that was forming in my mind for some time now - what with the people who don’t fit within any of the two initial archetypes (I felt like not everyone was, for example in case of Left Down, very Left and very Down or closer to the Right and closer to the Up - you could be very Left and closer to the Up). I’m super excited because with your explanation of the Wildflower a lot of things got more clear to me. I suppose I could be this one since I think I’m a mover. I’m waiting for your Left Up expansion. Once again, great job and keep going! I’m very grateful for your approach.

I am so excited about these expansions! Yes! And the L+D course was really useful, so much info, and it helped move me deeper into knowing what I want to express and how.
As L+D I would definitely be the Wildflower part that's on the line, or slightly over in the Up quadrant -- this is me at present. The course and the L+D and L+U workshops have unlocked desires and dreams that I think could send me straight up, maybe even to the Mystic spot, once I have the courage. Or maybe I am exactly where I am meant to be, about to unfurl my Wildflower petals, moving me only slightly to the upper limit of this archetype. No side-to-side movement for me! I can't wait for the L+U archetype expansion, especially to discover what is directly above/overlapping Wildflower.

Regarding the Seductress: I can't really think of a word in English that means "draws people towards them" that involves sensuality, can involve sexuality for certain people, but doesn't necessarily. For a Left-Down person, we dress for ourselves and not the other person, so the Seductress isn't dressing for the "seducee", so to speak, and I can imagine people being confused without the explanation. Although I relate even more strongly to both Outsider and Wildflower, one thing I've said and heard others say is, "I like my clothes to feel like a hug", and I have often felt like many people who like soft, form fitting knits with some stretch relate to this.

I’ve been watching your style essence videos over the last couple days and I love them!! I realized quickly I’m definitely down. But have really been exploring whether I am right or left. “Am I right and just want to be left?” has been a big question…. but it feels more than a want .. I gravitate towards sensual clothing. (I’m pretty sure I’m soft natural, after a few days of study and reflection..) but I also feel I can’t ignore that I tend towards dreamy. Is the dreamy me an older me? Maybe, there are more refined pieces in my wardrobe that just don’t feel quite “me” anymore. But then there are also some left+down ways of dressing that don’t really fit me either. So this new video with updated archetypes has almost decided it for me! Spicy girl next door is totally screaming that she is my essence home. And I like playing with seductress and cool girl and outsider and wildflower even maybe. But I also think I moreso admire / am fascinated by those rather than fully being them. I think I am quintessential spicy girl next door ….. which is so funny because I randomly started describing myself as spicy on tinder years ago lmao??? kind of cringe but huh! and, I am suuuuper super curious about your right+down added archetypes. I literally cannot wait.
This is such a fun way to explore fashion. I love your open approach to this being more about inspiration rather than rigid categorization. I love how poetic you both are in your descriptions! Dressing is an art and we are our own muse! So fun. I also love admiring those essences that I am not and witnessing other beings exude their radiance in their own unique ways. Thank you for sharing this system! It has honestly been life changing. Because yeah now I feel like I can exclude things simply - “oh, that’s pretty and cool and interesting but it’s not me because I am *this*” or “oohh this isn’t fully me but I want to try it on any way to see how it feels” 💓💓💓 and I’m so curious to continue exploring how I am Gaia sensual and also dreamy ethereal

I didn't feel like I fit too well into the original L+D archetypes (although I knew I was L+D by your definition, without a doubt), but now with more to consider, I am finding that I may be more cool girl or outsider (one of the original archetypes). So, I dunno, it's like where I felt like maybe with fewer options things were too 'labeled' for me, I now am seeing with the expansion that I might be able to experiment, have fun, and maybe even find my favorite thing on the map. This definitely is exciting, and you guys are awesome together and so fun ("shoop!").

Can one be an outsider without the "sensuality" aspect of LD? I've related to this archetype a lot for a variety of reasons, I'm very dependent on mood when it comes to choosing outfits, colours, etc. and I combine things as they speak to me and my imagination (I rarely ever follow trends), and I also oscillate a lot between appearing more delicate and rather harsh and unapproachable. I've been termed "cool" by other people even though I'm actually super aloof. But! I don't really dress in a way that is sensual nor do I appear sensual to others I don't think (although people have told me that I come off as intriguing). This "sensuality" thing has been tripping me up for the longest time!

I think you can totally be in that part of the quadrant without being guided by the sensuality aspect. But I would also say that 1) sensuality is often a bit of a spooky concept because it's has this wired normative significance in our culture. So it's like good to ponder yo what extent aversion towards sensuality might have to do with that. And 2) even the outsider is still guided by sensory dressing

I read your comment right when listening to 16:50 in the time stamp. On that time stamp and 20secs in, he talks about what sensuality really means and that its something that attracts, not necessarily in a sexual aspect.

I think of it more as a sensory thing, like walking in the forest and smelling the trees, or putting your toes in a creek. I prefer elemental. I can relate to that. 😊

Hi Rita! Question: Would it be accurate to say that the Left+Down woman's energy is more 'receptive', whereas the Right+Down woman's energy is more 'expressive'? Like, the Left+Down woman goes to a party expecting people to come to her, whereas the Right+Down woman goes to the party expecting to... approach others? Or something? Or am I conflating this with personality too much, and either woman would be equally likely to just plant her butt on a couch and wait for people to come to her?

I do think that receptive versus expressive is a good way to think about it
but honestly every essence will have many people who are shy and just will huddle in a safe corner at a party, ykwim?

@@StyleThoughtsbyRita Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
I definitely relate to the 'receptive' more than 'expressive' aspect, and in my case not due to shyness (though I am introverted). More just when I'm doing my own thing, it seems to draw people in, and I relate more to the experience of other people approaching me, rather than me approaching others. I'm typically confused about why I'm receiving attention when I'm trying to be alone doing my own thing -- not so much trying to 'shine' something for others to see.
I initially assumed I'd be Right+Down, but I increasingly think I'm Left+Down with a mental block about _allowing_ myself to be Left+Down. It's not the diagonal decision you've mentioned many people seem torn between (I'm pretty confident I'm a Down), but I do think that as I gradually allow myself to unpack how it's 'okay' to be Left+Down, it's starting to make far more sense of how I actually dress when I enjoy how I dress, than the Right+Down image that I may be more socialized into wanting to present.
Thanks again for putting your very interesting ideas into the world! This is helpful food for thought!

Did you notice that there are only brunettes ? I wonder why ? Does being brunette adds to the vibe ?

We strive to include many examples of WOC in all quadrants, and the majority of these women have darker hair. There are many light haired left+Down women and celebrities for example Sophie Turner or Cameron Diaz. Cassie from Euphoria or Miranda from Just Like That also come to mind

There are plenty of L+D people with blonde hair. We just didn't think about mixing up the hair colours in the video. We will make sure to do that one for the next video.

@@inquiry6274 Ah, no problem, I just just joking!! ;) Sorry if it came across as too snarky. I guess I'm used to joking about stuff like that becasue also with Kibbe types it sometimes seems that for example Classics are blondes and TRs are dark haired and such. Even though I realise of course that any colouring can be any type. Or quadrant!
