    I like that you put emphasis on intuitive understanding. I didn't think I understood this system, but I placed all of the ladies in the same quadrants you did. It just goes to show what you can understand when you tell your brain to shut up for a moment. I think it must take a lot of intelligence to be able to articulate what one "feels" intuitively so that others can understand, and then to elaborate upon and analyze it.
    When you were describing left and right (here and in another video), I imagine Left as being a light at the end of a dark tunnel and Right as being a lightbulb in a room. I feel it's very important to add that the "light at the end of the tunnel" is actually a glowing lady in a fancy dress and the "lightbulb" is also a glowing lady in a fancy dress, but who is hanging from the ceiling by her finger. (She's enjoying it, so don't worry.) I still don't think I understand fully, but I'm getting there perhaps.

      Exactly-- it's an intuitive concept that's a bit hard to pin down with words
      So I want to encourage people to practice following the feeling -- that's what will help you when designing your own looks!

    loved the video and agreed with all! Zoe Kravitz as an example was really helpful for defining myself as Left Up because as a Kibbe DC I need to keep things unfussy, clean, simple.... but I look totally off without some sort of "edgy" element, and none of the Right or Down looks would work for me at all, even if the lines are "correct."

  • @dennicecisneros
    @dennicecisneros Před 3 lety +17

    Rita! Omg I get it now!! I’m right down 😃when you displayed the four quadrants on screen with their descriptions at once, it clicked for me! Could you do videos for example for Right+Down people if we had special events to go to what should we look for? And if you could do a whole video focusing on one quadrant with examples best looks, how to achieve best looks whether for casual or upscale events with diff kibbe ID for body types as examples of diff body types, I think that would make some great content!

    The more I watch the more I get your system and it is so insightful. Thank you for making these explorations. I just wanted to let you know don't feel concerned with the length of the videos, so many of us are soaking all this up and loving every minute. I'd listen to a one hour or more commentary on each quadrant, it's fascinating. Also I so enjoyed your mens series very much. Your system is making all the others look like playgroup, no offence to them but this is really so encompassing multi dimensional and intuitive, which we all need so much.

    This is fun😊.
    Zoe Kravitz was tricky, because I see her photographed in a lot of casual outfits. But she doesn't have that effortless vibe in those outfits. Her vibe is much more dramatic/queen. I totally agree with you.😀
    (I think this is helpful for finding our own up/down range, too.)

    • @StyleThoughtsbyRita
      @StyleThoughtsbyRita  Před 3 lety +4

      Yes! I know that it's not super straightforward but it really is about how you USE the clothes, rather than WHAT the clothes are. Zoe's outfits could read super casual on someone else, but I think she is fascinating. For example, her hairstyle to me looks very "high effort" even thoug it's just braids. She always has a lot of jewelery, often has sunglasses (to add mystery and distance), often has thick soled shoes (again creating a lot of literal distance and some mysteries)... it all just adds up to a very Dramatic, Glamorous Persona

    @staceycorbett80 Před 3 lety +9

    Yes! This was so fun! It’s so interesting to me because I feel like the left/right or up/down jumps out first. Like Emily I thought left didn’t instantly know up or down. Also loved how you showed that it’s not about the detailing of the outfit bc Zoeys had some very bare LU outfits that might have had a totally different vibe on someone else.

    I wonder if by contrast to the down celebs being photographed on the street with such enthusiasm... we look forward to the grandiosity of the looks the up celebs wear to a red carpet. Where we love to see that *persona really channeled and amplified. That’s where it is really fun, the drama of it all.
    I think that for Emily blunt and Cate Blanchett and Zoe. They are the kind of people you really want to see what looks they turn out on the red carpet... it’s so exciting to see what they will do. Whereas Emily or Ariana Grande (a down left celeb I think) or even Selena Gomes (down right) we know it will be them showing up and just looking like themselves. Obviously still gorgeous but it’s not the same and not so much their home base as an up celeb.

      Yes!!!! Love this and feel it absolutely
      On a non celebrity level, I think this applies too
      The gift of "up" women to the world is to bring a bit of "extra" energy, bring a festive touch, elevate occasions
      The gift of the "down" women is to bring a refreshing sense of ease, confidence in being yourself, almost a grounding touch

      @@lipasketch 🙈I put zendaya's "home' left down it tbh I think she has an EXTREMELY wide range, like one of the widest
      I just think her brand (think Rue in Euphoria or MJ in Spiderman) is so "coolest girl next door that has ever existed"
      But she has an incredible just pure GIFT for looking incredible in so many styles

      @sigridj9459 Před 3 lety +3

      @@StyleThoughtsbyRita I agree, Zendaya is a difficult one. The Tom Ford breast plate look she did for the Critics Choice awards to me is the best she’s ever looked and that reads as left up... to me at least.
      However, I think how we like to see Zendaya is usually left down. And thus it’s her home base -but she can absolutely play up left up looks... maybe when they are less fussy. There’s more of an ease to them?
      I am really loving this system btw Rita. I thought initially I was right+up but as you’re explaining more and we’re understanding the breadth of style within each quadrant- I’m realising I’m more left up and I feel most at home when I bring an air of sensuality to my look.
      Like you, I think I admire the women opposite me. The radiant women of the right, but as I came home last night from dinner in a pretty va va voom midi length, silver threaded wiggle dress that looks like I’m a liquid disco ball, I realised then I was probably the magnetic up+left haha.

    YES! YES! YES! 100% AGREE!
    Also, this might be super obvious, but I still think it's important to note: I find it interesting how Jason Momoa and Zoe Kravitz are in the same quadrant, being that they are close in real life. And Lisa Bonet probably is in the same quadrant as well (tell me what you think)... Maybe that's a pattern, people from the same quadrant hang together? 🤔😅
    Oh! And I really connect with what you said about Dakota, looking delicate but throwing unexpected witty comments, I'd say that I'm like that as well, and I'm pretty sure I'm in the same quadrant as her. As for wits, that reminds me of Ryan Reynolds. Maybe that's another pattern? I don't know... I'm just throwing it to the wall to see if it sticks xD
    And now I'm thinking about one of your videos before, where you said J-Lo moved quadrants with the passing of years. Does that happen in other cases? Is there an average age gap for each quadrant?

      Love that you feel that for Dakota, and I feel that for Ryan too!
      I do think many people have a "life trajectory", where the image you represent changes organically
      For some people I can see you moving up, occupying more of a persona, a more intimidating or dramatic look
      For some people moving more left or right, finding your energy balance
      For some, moving down, shedding layers and becoming soft delicate beauty

    Hi there! still binging your lovely system :) and while taking this fun quiz, some thoughts and questions bubbled up:
    1: can someone be in the middle? since I got the impression that the quadrant is a bit spectrum-y and not fixed boxes (thank god). For example: two people who are up, but one is more up than the other. So can someone be in the middle between up and down/left and right or does one always lean towards one or the other? and what would that look like? would they have different recommendations in terms of outfits and style? could they more easily borrow from other quadrants than the more pure types?
    2: I noticed for some people I immediatly saw they were right and then had to observe a bit better for the up/down and for others I saw the up/down coin first. Is there a form of dominance? for example in kibbe if someone is TR they have to accomodate for being a romantic first (curve) and vertical/sharpness second, while for the SD its the other way around - there is a kind of dominance taking place which translates into different recommendations. Is left and right dominant to up and down or are they equal? and can there be a left+down ánd a down+left and would that translate into a different set of recommendations? I experienced from this quiz that they at least have a different kind of first impression.
    3: I got them almost all correct/same as you, I got Zoe as a RU instead of LU, because she looks very dreamy to me. I saw U pretty quickly, but I struggled with the L/R coin really hard before settling on R with a questionmark. Could she be a bit in the middle? because I see characteristics of both left and right, some at the same time - dreamy + not sensual and intimidating + magnetic at the same time. Or should I have read her dreamyness as the right mystery? I don't see sensuality for her at all, but I do see glamorous in her own way as you put it so well. So I see the L over R now, but I do think she wouldn't be very far to the left. What do you think? I also think the left dress you say is RU is way too yin for her, and that's not showcasing her yang as a FG, but I do think it adds to and compliments her dreamyness and her hair completes the look by giving some viking/earthy/edgyness - its a nice mix of RU and LU, now that I think of it. Could gamines also have a mixed quadrant? just like they have mixed yin and yang?.
    Also I think you are right about her appearing down for many people, also for the reason you said, but I think there may be another reason: I think its partly because she's a FG and she needs to put in more effort and detail in her outfits to look put together. This also means she has to put in effort to even make her outfits look effortless. So in some outfits you showed she looks really effortless, but she put a lot of effort and detail in it to look effortless. On someone else who's not a gamine these would look over the top wowza lotta detail and very much effort. Does this make sense?
    Which brings me to my next thought....
    4: I'm still not convinced kibbe and this essence system isn't related 'at all'. Everything you said about Dakota Johnson in the purple dress with the heart vs the silver simple dress could also be in a video about kibbe classics, its simply too much detail-wise and too heavy on her. Which makes sense, because she's a SC. Just like when you said she looked edgy in the grey flannel (while its not edgy, since its just a flannel). She looks edgy very easily because she's a classic and a lower amount of detail achieves a more strong look easier on a classic than for example a gamine, who needs to put in more 'effort'. Then Emily Blunt comes in, also a SC and also a right. You see where I'm going... ? Could it be that some kibbe IDs are more common in certain quadrants? or is it just coincidence that they're both a SC ánd the 'rita' type that fits best due to the shared (stereotypical) characteristics? In the end its true that they both have a very stereotypical classic way of dressing themselves. I'd really love to see a dramatic, intriguing and intimidating SC now, just to prove me wrong. And please don't get me wrong, because I hate stereotypes. I myself am a bandshirt rockwear and vintage loving TR and I hate the dripping in diamonds sexual goddess stereotype which isn't me at all and which made others make me doubt my type. I'm still in that FB correcting people about this all the time, because the stereotypes aren't what kibbe is about (unfortunately most people think it is). Anyway, I completely agree with your analysis and also about the rita ID you put on all these ladies. Its just that I wonder if someone's kibbe ID doesn't at least have some effect. Just like you said in the Q&A video: a FN looks different in a stiff oversized rough linnen blazer than a TR would. So in order to achieve a certain look, the different types have to keep in mind their kibbe ID. Which brings me back to what I said about Zoe Kravitz. Also I could see a correlation between yin and yang energy and the quadrants, so not neccesarily the kibbe IDs and its accomodations, but the bricks of the system. For example LD: relaxed and easy + sensual - translates to draped fabrics = yin. Not that every LD would need pure yin, because a dramatic could also be a LD, but might require some more draped fabrics to honor the essence. Hence why maybe some dramatics don't match up to the stereotypical kibbe dramatic and are debatable in the kibbe system. Okay I'm stopping my brainstorm here, or this reaction will be a whole essay. Love to hear your thoughts!
    5: I'm also very curious how you think color theory mixes with your system. Since dark and high contrast often reads as more heavy, magnetic and intimidating and light and low contrast often reads more approachable, airy and luminous. I immediatly think of certain colors when you speak about the different quadrants and I also noticed them literally in the way you describe and explain. Saying black is too harsh and heavy on Emily Blunt for example. So is black a LU kinda color?
    Just rambling and hope this helps in some way, also helping you refining your own system, and at least for educational purposes and my own understanding ^^ and if these things are explained in later videos, then I'm sorry for asking and I'm going to watch those later !

      Gravity is just a way of saying that you are attractive force. People's eyes move naturally to you and you captivate the gaze.
      Of course we are all beautiful and worth looking at but the women with left energy kind of "bring the gaze" in to them more naturally and powerfully
      So also wearing clothes which hold the gaze (for example dark + ornate detailing or neon colors) is more "natural" for the Left because it brings the eye to them

      Absolutely agree that it's hard to tell if you're meant to be up if you're in a part of life where your situations really ask for you to be very easy, minimal, etc. I think there is definitely a phase of life where you are just doing laundry all the time and trying to get by -- and I do think you can still find and develop your style in this phase, but it definitely is a lot harder.
      I will talk about this more in future videos, but for me my biggest hints about being "up" are:
      -When I wear very casual clothing I feel like I just really melt/dissolve and you can't *see* me. I've never felt comfortable in jeans, even though they fit me well and they are very appropriate to my environment.
      -I can dress "up" so much without feeling like it's fake. There was some discomfort when I first started expanding my style zone but I quickly realized how much more I could add on a daily basis.
      -I feel like I am presenting myself, can be seen and heard, when I have a more elaborate outfit.
      -When I dress up, people get really happy. Even when I am MORE dressed up than the people around me, I can tell that it just elevates the situation. People kind of "accept" it as a natural thing for me

      We mean Elemental like representing the power of the elements: earth, wind, fire and water. You can kind of feel into which type(s) of natural Element someone reminds you of
      You could imagine the left as pure energy and force of nature.
      While the right is more refined, abstract, removed from that raw power

    Okay... What's interesting is that I'm a little bit confused between left up and down (I thought Zoe is down, and Emily up) and that's also where I'm stuck in my own typing... I might be left down who wants to be left up? Or I'm pretty close to the middle? Or I'm able to move which makes it harder to choose? Or I'm just not yet getting it fully? Or am I totally overthinking 😅?
    Aside from that: what keeps throwing me off is the term "approachable". Emily Ratajkowski and Kim Kardashian don't appear that to me, whiles Kate Middleton and also Blake Lively seem more so.
    Edit: throwing me off not up!! Haha!

    Wow you knew It from the beginning 😂
    Yep I switched Emily R. and Zoe putting Emily in the left up and Zoe in the left down
    And after your explanation I now understand why I felt not so sure hahah
    Even if I myself would never approach Emily, to me she Is intimidating even with the most casual outfit 🙈 I feel It can be her elementalness and rawness in her eyes and her glance overall (and maybe because she Is just so beautiful that she seems unreal and not of this world sometimes 😂)
    Zoe is intimidating too but It felt more 'easy' idk why, maybe because she is smaller in stature (even if She Is still prominent)
    I mean this Is from a perspective of a short girl like me, I always feel a lil intimidated by taller people 🙈
    Maybe they can also be not at the extremes of up and down? 🤔
    For example I feel myself to certainly be a down person but I'm having a hard time picking left or right, because I can get away with a little of both, just not their extremes , I would put myself in kind of the middle of the scale, so probably Emily and Zoe were kind in the middle (leaning to their extremes up/down) that's why they could pull of some look that weren't in their quadrants...
    Sorry for the long comment, this system Is just so interesting and I'm so so curious to know more 💕

      Don't be sorry!!! I am so grateful to you for being here, for engaging with my ideas and for sharing your thoughts
      I actually agree that Emily is a bit intimidating -- I agree it's just because she is so extremely beautiful so you would be nervous to talk to her! I think she is quite close to the middle tbh, exactly as you say! I would just say she tends more to the down-- for me she cultivates a very intuitive, understated style (in her own celebrity way)
      I do see what you mean about Zoe being more literslly approachable because she is small...to me that's actually why I put her UP because when someone is so small and wears quite "casual" clothes but still is creates a very intriguing/mysterious/dramatic persona
      So if Zoes looks were more understated, and intuitive and effortless she would lose that mysterious persona and appear to be even more vulnerable
      so for me that's why it's also important to think about the multiple words for each direction, and to just train my intuition on what it means

    • @StyleThoughtsbyRita
      @StyleThoughtsbyRita  Před 3 lety +7

      Thank you so much for this question. When we say "shadow" we are using a Jungian concept in a very loose way, to mean the following:
      Among the Left women of the world, if they have, so to speak, "strayed from their heart's true path" (lol) -- the vibe they give off is "the lost girl." To me this is a person who feels kind of confused with what they are doing in their life, what their purpose is, they don't feel connected to the world around them and they feel marginalized and disempowered. This person can often be aloof, cynical, a bit "too cool for school". She maybe doesn't care that much about other people because they don't fully exist to her. She doesn't have a great sense of her own boundaries, and she can be taken advantage of. Winona Ryder often portrays the Lost Girl. Rue from Euphoria is a major Lost Girl. I would also see Black Widow as another example of a Lost Girl (in her backstory). Wanda Maximoff is a Lost Girl. In Harry Potter, Luna Lovegood is a Lost Girl. Carrie in Sex and the City is a Lost Girl.
      Obviously ALL HUMAN BEINGS can experience this state so it's not meant to determine anyone's quadrant. But I do think that we can contrast this with "The Ice Queen" shadow on the right. This is a person who is very rigid and distant, who constructs a barrier between them and others, is judgmental and critical, who shuts people out by looking down at them and creating a distance to them. To use the examples from the previous paragraph: Regina George in the Mean Girls is a typical Ice Queen -- nobody is good enough for her, nobody can touch her. Miranda/Charlotte are the right, "Ice Queen" types in Sex and the City. Gamora is an Ice Queen in the Marvel universe. Hermione the obvious Ice Queen in Harry Potter.
      What does this mean for style? idk really, I just try to use some poetic and evocative words to communicate what I feel are the "core" right/left energies that can then be expressed through style.

      @@Vananessaa it's tricky to answer in a quick comment
      You could have dark hair and light skin but be a summer/autumn meaning your coloring is overall dimensional/subtle, which means you can play with that by experimenting with outfits that incorporate similar (but not same) shades of a color
      You could also be winter (clear and stark contrast) in which case you have quite a lot of "drama" in your coloring. If you wanted to achieve the "easy and radiant" look of down right I would avoid super bright or neon colors, play with some of the lighter colors in your palette, and Monochrome looks with a more "approachable, intuitive" style
