So I still use familiar terms such as Dramatic, Natural, Classic, Romantic, Gamine and Ingenue.....but my evaluations are 100% custom; they are not designed to assign you an archetype, rather offer you a clear outline of your unique characteristics and total balance. Heidi Wahlquist you can definitely ask others for their perspective on your essence. It took me a while to understand my essence because of preconceived notions I had about myself. Try having someone film you with you knowing and watch it back. Take note of how you enter the room and how you interact. Do it more than once and in different settings. This should give you some insight as well ✨

People are usually reacting to something essential in us, but they might also be projecting, which gives us quite a bit of insight into THEM. I guess it’d come down to how narcissistic someone is, and whether people are dissociated from themselves (and reality), or if they’re empathetic & intuitive.

I'm a 24 yr. old soft classic and while I still feel like too much of an awkward child to be particularly elegant, I admire women who are in a rather old fashioned way. I adore paintings of late Victorian/Edwardian ladies in elegant gowns, dressed in satin with pearls and ribbon chokers. The simple, chic looks you see on Glossier and Reformation models are also really appealing to me. I only really dress up for work and church though and wear my same jeans and t-shirts from high school the rest of the time.

This is an eye-opener... now I understand why everytime I look in the mirror before getting out the door I end up removing any accessories that (really I love but) are too girly/sweet. I always feel they don't go together with me, I absolutely don't feel confident wearing them. For me it's all about structure, clean sharp lines, geometry, muted or darker colours, rich fabrics, leather and metal accents. I'm a dramatic with a good amount of girly items in my closet which I long to wear but I'm never really able to.

I’d love a dedicated video! I always feel like their aren’t many examples given to romantics (not theatrical romantics, just pure romantics) on how to dress in modern day. I love marylin monroe but I need some current examples of things to look for that compliment me well. Seems like clothes are not made with my body type in mind at all 🥺 everything is so straight, long, or stiff

    • @elyssa_aesthetic
      @elyssa_aesthetic  Před 4 lety +59

Nicole Smith oh I get it!! It drives me nuts that the impression is that romantics have to dress like MM. This is so far from the truth and there’s so many amazing options out there for R’s. I plan on addressing this in a video for sure!

Elyssa I actually don’t mind the fact that our recommendations are super “sexy” or “feminine” as I totally feel very natural and confident in those styles and also get the most compliments when I stay true to that vibe... it’s just that the only examples ever given are old Hollywood (which I love) but is unhelpful when shopping in modern day stores. 😂 just like a soft dramatic is going to have a harder time finding shoulder emphasis due to the lack of shoulder pads in stores today and need a modern day work around, romantics need that too due to the fact that many shops don’t make things for petit curve dominate body types. Most clothes today are unstructured and/or long as if the ONLY women that need to wear clothes are flamboyant naturals 🙃

Orseund Iris & Sororite Vintage are great examples of modern romanticism where you can get inspiration from. Also I noticed that outside of America, for example, Japan & Korea their clothes tend to be more romantic and modern rather than sexy

What you said about fighting your essence really resonated with me... my partner learned about Kibbe with me a while back and he could tell my essence straight away, I was resisting it. I too wanted to be seen as elegant, when my authentic self is bubbly, sugar n spice, spunky (like you). I tried it, but even with having studied the archetype I wanted, it fell flat on me. I'm embracing my real ID now and I feel more real, and less like I'm playing a character. (Still would love a consultation when you're open again!!)

Because of the description of the dramatics that most people have on youtube people seem to dislake them or consider beeing a type of dramatic. They are discribed as masculine, not delicate and so one. But in fact there bones ar long but they are narrow so that is a delicate trade, they are very regal looking and in my opinion they look incredibal with long hair(at list half of back lenght and longer). They have an magnetic regal aura. And you can truly feel that majestic auro in all of the dramatics, and it has a very strong influence in dramatic clasic, even in the flamboyant gamines I think it has somewhat of an influence. In my opinion tou have the best description of the dramatics, very diffrent to what most people have online, but it also captures there essence more

Hi elyssa! What I find so interesting about the kibbe series is that we really have no idea wha goes on in another persons head or what it “feels like to be them”… as a classic I had no idea until I came across your video that there are people who struggle to look more formal. I simply never thought about and apparently took it for granted. I was always envious of the gamine spunk and expressiveness - something I will never have.

Thank you for doing these videos. I feel as though I have a whole new perspective on personal style (which is pretty amazing considering I'm 65 - have been dressing myself for many years obviously - and I love style - I sew my own clothes) I'm tall (5'8") which would incline one (me incl) to see me as a natural or classic but my soft tissue defies that (I'm not overweight but my bust is 36FF while my legs are very long) I believe I'm more Yin than Yang (which is also reflected in my essence) and my reflection has led me to ponder (with some chagrin) that I haven't been dressing myself the best I could be.

Oooh this is why I get told I have a graceful and elegant, (and my mom has always told me) regal aura. I'm naturally warm and friendly but people usually think I'm hard to approach, so I'll put myself out there anyway, and then people won't even know why they hesitated to make the first move to get to know me. Additionally, I do value logic, balance, and practicality and I'm a soft/pure natural (I believe), so I know the regal essence with it's extravagance wouldn't necessarily suit my tastes or my body type so much. In contrast, I do love minimalist, chic, and especially modest styles, as I've seen they not only suit me best, but they also stay true to my personality; I belive the more graceful and elegant essences can really shine through in them as well. Anyway, since discovering the kibbe body type system, I stumbled upon your channel and absolutely love how organized and eloquent you are with your videos. I never thought fashion can be this fun, and I can't wait to slowly build a wardrobe that actually does the real me justice, for satisfaction of my aesthetic, essence and characteristic needs.

I would also like to perhaps slightly challenge when you mention that you don't feel you can ever exude a graceful aura/essence? That shocked me, as this is exactly what I perceived of your nature by watching your videos, listening to your voice and watching your head and hand movements especially. To me you come across as very refined, and with a natural, slightly 'softened' grace - as though this is your natural state and not something into which you need to put much effort (unlike somebody who would be described as 'putting on graces and airs'). You have a very calming presence about you, and I would have assumed you were a dancer in a very classic or traditional style like ballet or ballroom - and/or that you participate in other areas of 'art culture' like gallery curation, literature or something else. I love your videos so much - how you structure your content is so helpful.
If you dont mind I would give a short description of myself. I would love to hear your thoughts on that (If you dont have that much time, it would be awesome if you just read the aspects below "Essence")
    Essence:
I always felt off. People told and still tell me that I look dainty, small and feminine with a warm aura. They say I am a quick thinker, reasonable and logical but at the same time chaotic, funny and strong. I dont feel small and dainty at all. I feel much bigger than I am, I feel wide and kind of manly. I was very happy when I was told I had a warm aura. But I know that I can come off very cold and authoritative.
    Bodytyping:
till this day I still didn't really find my type. I thought multiple times that I got it (Flamboyant Gamine, Gamine, Soft Natural, Classic, Soft Dramatic... atm I'm learning about Soft Classic, Soft Gamine and Theatrical Romantic). For now I isolated the lines and my findings for clothes that look good on me are:
    - small, crisp details near the face, lightly contrasted collars, high tailored or slightly loser nicklines can work on me
    - sharply defined shoulders are quite important
    - rolled up sleeves (creates a little draping)
    - waist emphasizing (my torso is small and tapered, but I have a bit of a prominent bustline)
    - I think high waisted works well on me, but my waist is very high, so I need extremly high waisted pieces to not look like a potato. I also can get away with straight cuts.
    - my hips are slightly wider than my shoulders, they are not rounded, they are straight but getting wider from top to bottom. That's why I feel like very fitted pants work on me but also pants which are a little poofy around the hips.
    - I sadly can not pull of messy hair that well.
    - all horizontal stripes and color blocking also do not work on me that well
Please tell me, what I am! :D I am really lost!
    Thank you so much!

funkuchen2 so I’d prefer to see visual references or even get to experience your essence and physical appearance for myself in person or via Skype before settling on a type or giving any suggestions whatsoever. But since you took the time to write all that out....solely based on your description I’d say you’re likely in the gamine family. I’d also add that color blocking doesn’t have to be eccentric, rather just a means of breaking your vertical line. The way you describe your essence is so extreme yin/yang which is hallmark of the G family. As well as how the use of high collars compliment you and your “petite” frame. Something to keep in mind is that gamines (particularly SG) can *feel* bigger or more wide than what we actually are. Just some food for thought.

My essence is warm and friendly with sex appeal. I always used to dress bold when I was young and I still tend to want to mix in some boldness now - I’m a kibbe soft natural but since I have a lot of romantic and a bold coloring naturally - I would say I’m a combo of romantic/natural/dramatic.

  • @MB-pf7gv

Even after watching Aly Art and Merriam Style, I still have no idea. I think I’m a flamboyant natural but I am definitely not approachable. I’ve been told that I’m intimidating but at the same time, very sensual and sexual even though I’m not ever trying to be. Does that make me soft dramatic? Someone likened me to Sophia Loren but I’ve read Kibbe’s work and my flesh doesn’t gather where it’s supposed to...I keep most of my weight up top-big chest and fleshy arms. I’m all mixed up.

    • @elyssa_aesthetic
      @elyssa_aesthetic  Před 4 lety +9

Melissa Boyce Melissa Boyce so try to think of these traits on a spectrum rather than try to type yourself based on them. Ultimately, your Kibbe type is based on the lines and shapes that look best on you. Getting to know your essence is what will help you embrace your bold sensual nature. Now it is possible that you’ve mistyped yourself and are SD rather than FN.....but don’t let some of these essence descriptions get you twisted around if you’ve concluded that FN are the ones that be compliment your frame and shape.
It’s also worth mentioning that SD can have the T silhouette that you describe having yourself. Keep in mind that not all SD (or any archetype for that matter) will necessarily look like the celebrity examples. We see varying physical traits even with the celebrity examples.
I’d also like to address the difference between FN and SD. FN will have *little to no curve* to accommodate and will need to accommodate their vertical line. SD *will* have curve to accommodate and will also accommodate their vertical line.

Its harder to notice your own essence than others, I want to do a survey on people I know to find out how they see me haha. It would be great if everyone could do that thing some stand up comedians do where they pay to go on a stage and the audience write down everything they think about them without censoring anything. You get a honest look of how people see you - pretty scary but very useful.

i would say my body type checks most of the boxes for dramatic classic. However, my essence fits the description for soft dramatic. People's description of me would be elegant, sophisticated. I would even get told that I walked sophisticatedly or I walked like a feather and I carried myself like a princess. Althought I feel very confident that my body is dramatic classic, I dont think it's essence suites me as I have also been described as very feminine, delicate, and innocent. I feel flattered by the descriptions but I lokve experimenting and I am slightly dissapointed to realize that's why I would get told I looked sloppy or ridiculous whenever I would branch to baggy, edgy, quirky looks.

Funny honestly. I’ve always found myself too boring or plain, in personality and body. Feeling like I had to be entertaining, energetic, and fun. With my looks I always felt I needed to add something maybe plastic surgery, piercings, tattoos, working out to change my body, etc. Turns out I’m a soft classic. The looks match my personality and suit my body yet I still wonder about plainness despite feeling the best I ever had in my lines. Checking out essence since classic lines are rigid yet firm and allow creativity. Fashion is really helping with my self discovery and understanding myself

    Very interesting video indeed.
I have a very easy time looking elegant and sophisticated yet sexy. When I put on a pencil skirt and a blouse, I look like the sexy but also competent secretary stereotype by default.
And although I like playing with more glamorous and sexy looks, I, unfortunately, mostly like a more androgynous clothing style. Because of that I hated shopping for clothes for while because I couldn't find anything that I liked and that suited me. Luckily, I eventually found a compromise between what I liked and what suits me.

Honestly, calling it essence seems inauthentic to what it really is... A projection onto oneself made by others based on stereotypes of how one physically looks, due to body geometry. Essence makes it sound like it's an interior quality emanating from one's soul or spirit. If you look at someone like Jason Momoa who appears to be some sort of natural or soft dramatic physically, but when you observe his behaviour and personality he's all about playfulness, which is typically assigned to Garmin.
