  • In this series we have been talking about the concept of Style Logics - your decision making process for your personal style.
    I've talked about the different Style Logics in my system, the Style Key. The goal of the Style Logic is to give you a simple mental model so you can align your personal essence with your style, your aesthetic.

    I just love how deep this system goes. I thought for sure I was RD and this video gave me an a-ha moment: I realized that my awareness of and concern with the impression my style makes is not MY voice but the voices of all the people who criticized my appearance over the years and all the style rules I've ingested as a way to improve my sense of style. Wow. I'm laughing/crying because while it's "just clothes" it's really not--it's about claiming a clear sense of self and allowing it to exist regardless of outside voices.

      What a beautiful beautiful way of formulating it!! Our head is full of voices of things we've been told we "must" do. The goal for me with the style key is to help you sort out the overwhelm and figure out what is actually true and useful for you. I'm so glad this video helped give you an insight ❤️

    I'd love a video that specifically compares each quadrant compared to all others for those who are confused between two of them. Maybe this could include a couple situations someone may be going to and what they may wear (with how they get there).

    I thought I was a Moonstone, but after studying the Style Key in depth, I believe I’m an Amethyst (Muse).

    I love that you are not a dictator about your system but leave at open on how it can be used, but then at the same time you are very transparent as to what your experiences as a teacher of the system has been.
    I have long been stuck between Moonstone and Sapphire just because I love the aesthetics of Moonstone so much, but I finally realized that right down is just not my style home and is not the way I think in therms of style keys. Sad but liberating at the same time. 😊

      The aesthetics are really just examples. There’s no reason why you can’t use Sapphire logic and still incorporate some of that Moonstone style inspiration. I really see the Style Key system as a guide to the psychology of dressing more than anything else.

    Great topic! I feel very confident in my “upness” but am struggling between right and left. Some days I really enjoy that my environment can inform what I should wear…but other days I feel stifled and boxed in according to specific situations.
    I find that when it comes to work environments (where there are more codes & customs set in place for how to dress), I lean more left because having an everyday dress code feels too limiting style-wise. But when it comes to situations like parties or social events where the dress codes aren’t as rigid, I lean more right and enjoy having a context to bounce my outfits off of.

    • @Androgynary
      @Androgynary Před rokem +1

      But I suppose this indicates that I lean predominately “right” because my answers are still environment-dependent regardless 😂

    • @Androgynary
      @Androgynary Před rokem +2

      At the end of the day though, I feel like I might inherently be Left? Like I don’t entirely feel my best self when I dress mostly for the situation. There’s always this secret longing to dress however I want to based on how I feel, so idk…Maybe I only say I’m Right because I still have insecurities about presenting as my authentic self.

      @@Androgynary This entire thread felt like you pulled it right out of my head. Seeing it in print makes me realize I'm definitely a left up woman. At my core, if I don't feel good internally, I'm not wearing it no matter if it's appropriate for the occasion or not. I definitely identify with the Lady Heretic. How about you?

    • @1theatrechick
      @1theatrechick Před 11 měsíci

      I can relate. I see myself in both the Lady Heretic and the Role Model. My aesthetic is pretty Right, but I often dress Up at the expense of social appropriateness (e.g., what I wear to the playground with my kids would be like Sunday best or other special occasion dressing for most people).
      Sometimes I think I also relate to the Playful Dame. I always feel like that one should be way farther left on the axis, but maybe I’m misunderstanding it.

    When I first came across your style theory, I quickly found my style within the Spicy Girl Next Door type. I noticed that even though I was left-down, I was also right-down, so the SGND made sense. When I think of my outfits/style, I have two thoughts that occur simultaneously. 1). What is the occasion? And 2). What do I want to wear that is me?
    My question is, Now that you have updated/changed your style theory, how would you determine a style key for someone who asks these two questions?

    • @StyleThoughtsbyRita
      @StyleThoughtsbyRita  Před rokem +15

      I think the archetypes only make sense in the context of the quadrant so if you're SGND you're Ruby/L+D. Without the touch of intrigue/sensuality/elemental/enveloping etc the overall style won't really work, that's really important for SGND.
      If asking yourself about the occasion really works for you, just keep doing it - I'm not here to tell people to change something that works. The goal of the style logic is to help people who don't feel like their decision making process works well for them.
      If you have your own way of reaching an aesthetic that conveys your essence, theres no need to conform to my approach!
      I do want to note that it's a recurring question (I talk about it a bit in the Ruby video) whether you're "allowed" to think about the situation... Ofc you are bevause when we go somewhere we always need to consider the weather and the basic requirements of the event. As I mention for most Ruby L+D I recommend thinking about that and then setting it aside and focusing on what it is you want to bring out with your clothes (in your phrasing: what's the "me" I want to feel)

    I think i am sonewhere near the intersection of left up and right down. Some people find me sweet and dreamy, but some people find me intense and sexy. I feel as if I am more amythyst, in terms of how I decide what to wear & relate to it internally but I don't like to be seen, and feel closer to the illuminatrix look, or maybe Lady Heretic? because i need a bit of restraint yet dont feel right and as if I disappear if I dont have some wit or shock or unexpectedness or fun and interest and a little darkness, some subversion of expectation, unexpected thing. If its too relaxed it looks & feels bad. If its too formal it feels uncomfortable. Really not sure if Amethyst or Moonstone.

    On the subject of a video about self-determination, I wanted to ask you, as the author of the theory, something. Can "Up", in creating an image, have a subtle message, not direct, creating a reference to something with hints, and not taking social templates about how an idea or feeling should look like? Or, say, could "Up" be trying to portray an intuitive street style beauty like Emily Ratajkowski, Beautiful in itself, in face and figure? Or is this image too quiet for "Up"? For example, I created images with subtle hints, but I was frustrated that others did not react to them in any way and were not impressed by them. Is it too quiet "Up" or thinking too much about other "Down"?

    • @StyleThoughtsbyRita
      @StyleThoughtsbyRita  Před rokem +3

      I'm not sure I understand the question exactly but I would not describe the "up" goal as "subtle". I don't think you need a clear reference for people to get but the goal is a visual impact and a string energetic impression
      Emily is a L+D Seductress, not only bevause she enjoys more minimal and understated looks but also her celebrity persona is built around creating a (obviously false) intimacy and approachability
