    Oh the bit about finding what’s ‘flattering’ and buying new stuff only to find that you don’t feel like ‘you’ is so me! I spent weeks working out my Kibbe type and tried to dress appropriately. I looked taller and slimmer but was shocked to find that wasn’t enough. I didn’t feel like ‘me’ half the time. I’m glad I know those guidelines but definitely don’t follow them all the time! Just goes to show that following an external motivation isn’t as fulfilling as following your own intention.

    I know from my experience working with almost 400 clients that this style advice is a game-changer, and I tried to explain it in a nuanced way, but I still want to clarify - of course we ALL want many things from style. Even though I have the Right essence, for example, I still care very much about physical comfort. It's just not the first lens through which I view and analyze my outfits. Hope you enjoy!
    Also come follow me on Instagram, I have lots of fun content and examples about the essence system!

    I never really thought about how all the different social media style influencers I watch all have very different goals and intentions when they're getting dressed, and that reflects on their "rules" around dressing. Also helps me see why I'm drawn to some more than others, those who have similar goals to me. Much to think about here, great video! Thank you ✨

    Such great advice and it works for pretty much anything, not just style! It really helps avoid the "do I want to be her or date her?" conundrum for me. How many pixie cuts have I gotten because I love how they look even though I'm not into them for me? How many times have I started to learn how to do a rubiks cube/the trick for knowing the day of any date/basketweaving/etc just because of how cool I thought they were not because I was actually interested in really doing it? Starting from myself and what my intentions are gets me such better results than letting myself just pick up every shiny object off the style shelf.

      This is mind-blowing in its simplicity! I am one of those people, lol. I am constantly starting, then failing to complete, all kinds of projects. Do I actually like something (or someone) for myself, or just in general? I've always had trouble with these things. I think I need to sit with this concept for awhile!

    Your system has truly helped me relate to myself and my clothing SO much more intuitively. Having clear intention is something I hadn't thought to connect to something as "superficial" as clothing. Like Nina, I dressed to avoid negative scrutiny 😂 And now I find myself feeling much more seen and supported by my own little rituals of getting dressed and made up. Thanks for another wonderful video, Rita!

    That's such an empowering attitude towards fashion! All about being true to self and how the self is wanting to feel and express as the #1 thing, not just trying to follow rules if the results don't resonate with deeper intentions.

    This was a really interesting video! I watched a style video recently where the youtuber (who I'd place on the left in your system) said to think about how you want to feel in order to decide what to wear. And for some reason that just doesn't work for me. I'm right+up and I definitely dress 'better' when I think about the outward visual impact of my clothes, even just in terms of thinking about how I'd like to look in the mirror, as opposed to how I'd like to feel in my body.

    This is so important Rita! Thanks for making this video. I often find myself lost during periods in which I get sidetracked on my style journey, and start trying to conform to what I think I should be doing instead of actually listening to my heart's desires. I'm still navigating what it is that I want to accomplish through style (a consultation with you is on my bucket list!) but I do know that whenever I go down the road of trying to please others and/or trying to just not stand out, it goes downhill from there.

    I really like the idea of letting style flow out of your overal style intention and your wants and needs. What I am wondering is this: how do you find out what this overarching style need is? which questions do you ask yourself to discover that? Is there a way to monitor or track your style needs? Even tho I'm usually pretty good at reflecting on myself, I'm usually not that aware of my needs over the long run

    Liked this video and I like your approach very much! I think style intention is indeed something that is very overlooked and can put things back into perspective (by going back to your roots) if you feel overwhelmed by style and all those systems floating around. So thanks for sharing this :) I also think your example about Nina makes things very understandable and a bit more down to earth haha, so kudos for that! Only thing is that I disagree with what you said about kibbe having a style intention. The intention for those who follow kibbe is to dress harmoniously for your bonestructure and visual weight, not to dress like old hollywood stars.. Let's say Nina is a Romantic, she would need waist emphasis according to kibbe, shorter lines and a lightweight fabrics (because of the delicacy, softness and roundness of the romantic ID), but that doesn't mean Nina has to walk around like a modern day Marilyn Monroe and copy whatever she was wearing. Its much more abstract and applicable. Hence why I think Kibbe is part of the 'execution' within your equation. Same goes for color analysis and visual interest, which you did mention as part of the execution phase :). Those are all theories that teach us something about a phenomenon that you, once you understand it, can then bend at your own will (break the rules) and apply to yourself to be able to fully express whatever intention you have with style. If Nina has a style intention of that of a L+D, she could go back to kibbe and see what this system can offer her in terms of tools to help her dress that way. She, as a romantic, would find out that stiff fabrics make her uncomfortable and learn that its not because she is fat or there is something wrong with her, but because of her Kibbe ID not matching with said stiff fabrics. Her intention is to feel good in a garment and so she is more empowered to choose not to wear stiff fabrics, because she now knows why they make her feel unfortable. I think kibbe, just like color analysis, aren't fixed rules, they're guidelines. And those guidelines can help execute one's style intention by either following them, following parts of them or intentionally breaking them altogether. If Nina wants to be a rebel and show it, she could intentionally combine colors that don't go together to show her rebellious nature. She would still be using color analysis, just not in the way it was intended or most people use it. If Nina, as a romantic, wants to express her rebellious nature, she could opt for TR or SG lines to look more edgy. She's still using the kibbe system, just not in the way it was intended or most people use it.

    Mycket intressanta perspektiv. Skulle vara intressant att utforska temat personlig stil (eller essens i ditt system) över tid i ens liv och olika livsfaser. För egen del är det kärnelement som är stabila över tid, men sättet att uttrycka dem på har definitivt ändrats.

    • @StyleThoughtsbyRita
      @StyleThoughtsbyRita  Před 2 lety +1

      Ja! Det är ju klart man prioriterar olika saker i sina olika livsfaser, tex när man får småbarn eller när kroppen plötsligt ändras men man gör det på sitt eget sätt beroende på Essence/whatever you call it

    I don’t think I thought about my intentions for style exactly in this way before but it’s gotten me really thinking. I know I want my style to be a bit more curated and 1930s-50s but I’d have to think about what I want my intention or desire is as a whole
