Can't listen to Bob Marley without hearing "Redemption songs"
I remember in Marley's biography that Redemption Song was the last song he ever recorded. They said he was very ill with the cancer that killed him, but came in and laid down this beauty. Very moving song.

He has a super tight and innovative rhythm section that created a whole style centered around the One Drop drum beat. They are two brothers, Aston "Familyman" Barrett on Bass and Carlton "Carly" Barrett on drums. The who group put in a lot of effort to be tight they had a really strong work ethic. While this song does have a peaceful vibe and is a love song to his wife there is a lot more to unpack with Bob. People always think Marly equals drinks, beach, pot, vacation, peace and love....We should never forget that Bob was a dead serious revolutionary both spiritual and physical and he was ready to die to bring his message to the oppressed people of Jamacia and the world. He got shot and still performed a huge concert that was hijack by the two opposing political parties of which thugs from one side shot him. He went on stage with them in the audience and performed and brought the two political leaders on stage. When Bob was dying of cancer he brought his message to the people up till the very end. He is one of the most important people of the 20th century and not just of musicians of all people. I've been all over the world many out of the way nooks and crannies of places and there is one thing that I see everywhere and that is the youth wearing Bob Marley t-shits and Che Guevara t-shirts. Two massively influential revolutionaries with two very different approaches. One a violent, ruthless killer the other a bob a hero of the people. A little about the One Drop drum beat. The backbeat is a dominant snare drum stroke (usually a click produced by cross-sticking) and bass drum both sounding on the third beat of every four, while beat one is left empty. Thus, the expected hit on beat one is "dropped," creating the one-drop effect. Dropping out the bass on the "one" of the measure further accentuates the downbeat of the drums creating the rhythm.
Some of his music is so transcendent...this one is my favorite followed by "Three Little Birds" and "One Love". It's a characteristic that is evident in other Rocksteady artists' songs such as the Melodians' "Sweet Sensation", "It's My Delight", and "Rivers of Babylon", "Israelites" by Desmond Dekker, "Freedom Street" by Ken Boothe, and "Many Rivers to Cross" by Jimmy Cliff.
I love "Israelites" and I haven't seen any reactions to it.

In the later 70's, I didn't care much for the big hair, glam, heavy rock, metal bands that were so popular at the time, so I switched to alternative radio stations. Reggae/World music was very big on these stations. Really love the early stars like Marley, Bunny Whailer, Peter Tosh, Jimmy Cliff, Toots, and all those reggae greats. Also in '81 hubby and I moved aboard a sailboat and did some cruising - this music just SO fit the lifestyle.
For a deep cut, "War/No more Trouble". The first part is actually a speech that King Haile Selassie made at the united nations, which Bob Marley set to music.
"Bob Marley - Could You Be Loved" This is from the album "Legend: The Best of Bob Marley & The Wailers" this whole album is a banger. If anyone asked me to suggest an album to begin with, I would include this one in my top three. I totally agree with you both when I listen to Marley's music it helps relieve the stress if you've had a bad day, and most always leaves you in a positive mindset.

Don't listen to people telling you which songs especially when they're years out of order. You started with the Catch a Fire album and should stick with it, then move in to Burnin'. These two are the original Wailers, which included Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer. Both of them wrote and sang their own songs on those two and they're some of the band's best.
For their third album onward the Wailers were female backup singers and Bob sang all the leads.
