    Bob came to us right on time. The 60’s and 70’s were unbelievable times to be young. I was lucky enough to see Bob in concert in 1978. A spiritual experience.

    What was t like for Bob Marley to play London in the early 70's?? .. Well, I grew up in England thru the 60's & 70's and I gotta tell you, Reggae, Ska, Motown Soul etc was the absolute soundtrack to that era.. Yes, Bob was mobbed everywhere he played, but mobbed with love.!!

    "Three Little Brids" is my road rage song. I have an hour drive in city traffic each way to work, so that song is a regular on my playlist... It's physically impossible to be angry when you're singing that song.

    The song War was an actual speech delivered by Emperor Haile Selassia of Ethiopia at the UN. He was speaking for an end to all forms of foreign and authoritarian regimes occupying various African countries. It was a powerful speech.
    Mr Marley just had to sing it verbatim in order not to lose its essence.

    I’ve been listening to Bob Marley since I’ve been born, over 20 years of experience with him. My favorite songs are rebel music, concrete jungle, and the heathen. Please give me songs and try some time.

    Bob was the GOAT! He was a philopher, peacemaker and prophet too. Try Could you be Loved, Redemption Song, No Woman no Cry, and One Love

    He's speaking specifically about Africa here. But truth is truth everywhere. The lyrics here are almost word for word from a speech to the Unlited Nations by the Emporerer if Ethiopa Haile Selassie . Short version here.

    • @cmoplay1
      @cmoplay1 Před 6 měsíci +1

      I meant my version is simple. The turmoil in Africa was pretty much ignored in North America.

    • @notrashtolerated
      @notrashtolerated  Před 6 měsíci +1

      really? do you know when that speech was given? I'd love to check it out. Also those problems are largely still ignored unfortunately

    • @cmoplay1
      @cmoplay1 Před 6 měsíci +1

      @notrashtoleratedreactions The speech was given in 1963. There is a translation online. Bob was living in London in semi exile after an assassination attempt in Jamaica. I saw him there several times. A biopic of his life is set to open in February, the 14th, I think. Two trailers are available on CZcams. The eldest Marley son, Ziggy, is listed as producer and was apparently on set with the actor every day. I hope it's good.

      I think it was Jah Bunny who adapted and put this to music rather than Bob, might be wrong though. The Rainbow Theatre is now a Brazilian church, but can't match Bob's spirituality.

    As a younger guy growing up, me and friends listened to Bob daily in the UK as we were all into smoking certain stuff. I used to have every Bob album on vinyl back then. I still have a copy of his Biography that was given to me by an ex-girlfriend 30 years ago. It should be noted also Bob was mixed race, his Dad was a white British Navy officer

    This whole show is so sick!! I have the show on dvd somewhere, I can't seem to find it atm, which is phenomenally disappointing. It's so frickin' sad how he died of 1 of the most common & curable of cancers, a melanoma that began under his toenail, & it's so sad that no 1 cured the man, it's absolutely bonkers. I did see the Wailers & a cpl of his sons perform @ various times, however Bob was the shit, he was far more successful than I believe he could've ever imagined.

    Angola and Mozambique were still controlled by the colonizing Portuguese when this song was written. Thankfully, the Portuguese were kicked out. It was different in South Africa as we know, as white South Africans never left, even if they are no longer the ruling political class.

    • @josecarcamo1337
      @josecarcamo1337 Před 6 měsíci +8

      Actually…it’s taken from the 1963 Address to the United Nations by H.I.M. Emperor Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia (who btw, to the Rastafarians is the second coming of Christ..King of Kings,Lords of Lords, Conquering Lion of the Tribe of Judah!)

  • @tempstep4058

    War is emperor Haile Selassie's speech to the League of Nations translated into English and made into music. Ethiopia had just come out of war against Italy to remain the only uncolonized nation in Africa. Fairness is the emperor's call.

    Redemption song, No woman no cry, jamming, is this Love, all better in my view....and Could ypu be loved, buffalo soldier, lively up ypurself. War not one of his best. Oh and exodus and o f course I shot the sheriff. Marley is a rastafarian, a religion sort of Ethiopian version of Judaism but with ots of back to nature mixed in. Babylon = modernity ganja= sacrament
