This song War was based on the speech by Salassie to the United Nations.

Give it up for Bob Marley to make this song known world wide, because not too many people know who Haiile Selassie was and the speech given. A lot of singers wouldn't dare record this song because of its strong lyrics, but Bob Marley was no ordinary singer, he wasn't in it for the money, his lyrics will tell you that, he's was the Bravest musician ever, many of his songs were banned in Jamaica and USA.

Yes. He sung this to apartheid Africa in this video. A stand up cry for War and to See the War. And a decade later, the revolution won Freedom from Apartheid. We still have War; but this particular one ended; some speculate based on this performance, which was extremely Brave.

Bob was not just a legend but a philanthropist, peacemaker, prophet, philosopher. He has many more great songs such as Buffalo Soldier, Could you be Loved, Three Little Birds, Redemption Song…. Great Review

Yeah! There are some Freedom fighters among musicians, some of the most effective. And when your fight is right, time doesn't change that. Jah guide & protect!

Interesting - amandla is a Zulu word that means "power"/"strength", and Bob Marley never made it to South Africa becsuse his music was banned here at the time for being 'too revolutionary' - or it might cause a revolution to take place, something like that.

Bob Marley was deserted by his British father in the Jamaican Slums/ghettos and had to figure out how to survive. Bob Marley nationality was 100% Jamaican 0% British. Bob Marley was mix race. 50% African and 50% Caucasian. He knew nothing about being British. He was 100% Jamaican. He didn’t have a British passport or citizenship.

This song is apropos. We seem to be going back to segregation again due to this recent pandemic. There are now 1st and 2nd class citizens if you do not agree with the current government narrative and mandates. So sad that people like Bob Marley and MLK are being discounted for renewed belief in old ideas. There seems to be a push for authoritarian rule over freedom of individual choice. Thanks for this great choice of music. Cheers from Canada
