1:13:16 The thing you guys seem to be missing is that the card draw and life gain are an On Cast effect and not an ETB, when you cast it for 8, you still Draw 3 Gain 3 even if they counter it.

Can you do a game knights where all 4 players open a box and have to build using only what they pull and what they trade with the other 4 players based on what they pulled from there boxes.
That would be interesting. It also lets the other players try to figure out what type of deck you are building, and the politics starts with deck building lol.

I think Augustin IV (as a Human Advisor himself) would be the ideal commander for the Petitioners. Makes them cost just a blue, slowing down opponents and adding white. There ain't many things that blue and white together can't deal with.

I'm surprised there isn't more love for Protest of Forgotten Gods, especially with the idea that sacrificing a creature, and in this case 2, is always a good effect, then you get 2 mana and a card on top of the sac engine? That's solid.
You have to tap it tho. Most good sac outlets dont have a limiter like that. And it's summoning sick.

A thing to note about Electrodominance is that you ignore the casting clause of the card you cast for free - so you can flash out Sorcery speed stuff for free with it which seems bonkers.
Another weird thing you can do with it is cast cards that would normally need to be suspended, like Wheel of Fate.

my fav card out of the set is Lumbering Battlement (aka Blink Bus) but i'm very excited to build the new Teysa
Sphinx of Foresight feels amazing. Like, have you ever had a bad hand? Yeah? Well possibly any hand with this Sphinx in it is keepable aside from maybe 0 or 6 lands. Anything short of that might be good enough when you scry 3. In fact, having this in my deck at all is going to make me so much more confident mulling away mediocre hands. 2 lands in your opening 7? Ship it. 5 lands and two 6 drops? Ship it. 3 lands, missing a color, but you got the Sphinx? It'll all work out!
They could have stapled this ability to a Flying Man and I would play it!
47:53 did that on a WB Teferi with 'In Bolas' Clutches' over the weekend. Opponent scooped.
Im so happy about Smothering Tithe I could cry 😭😭😭 I started magic with mono white EDH and still play mono white to this day but struggle so much to keep up. This is gonna help a ton.

Finally got to use the commandzone link for singles that I want to pre-order! I like that I can trust that they won’t Cancel my pre-order if the prices go up (even if unlikely) lol.
One card that I think it's underrated: Incubation // Incongruity.
Incubation is Commune with Nature that may also be cast for a blue instead of green.
Incongruity is a Pongify/Rapid Hibridization that costs 1GU, but exiles the creature instead of destroying it.
Good target creature removal spells in Simic are always welcome for me, especially if they exile the creature. And if you don't need the removal at the moment, you can dump it for one mana and try to dig for a creature. I like that versatility.
Is Commune with Nature playable? It doesn't feel that way, and frankly the fact that it has blue in it really makes it struggle for space against the fantastic blue cantrips.
The removal option is better, but it's definitely not better than Reality Shift (cheaper, gives them a smaller body, combo piece) or Beast Within (easier to cast, more flexible targets) and between those two and the two you mentioned, this is probably the fifth-best targeted removal spell Simic has. Maybe less if you consider cards like Venser, definitely way less if you consider counterspells as removal spells.
I'll still take it: the fact that it exiles is that important to me.
Why? The number of relevant indestructible creatures can be counted on one hand (and again, Reality Shift covers them), and in green you have grave hate for years to shut down reanimator.
And honestly, the removal I mentioned is still missing the stupidly good set of green and blue ability strippers; cards like Song of the Dryads and Imprisoned in the Moon. Even once you take destroy-oriented removal off the table I don't think it'd make my cut; Song and Imprisoned (and depending on your build, potentially stuff like Deep Freeze) being able to ice commanders definitely pushes them ahead.
How many single-target removal spells should a Simic deck be playing?
Aside from the fact that Avacyn appears in my games way more often than she should... I just like having the power to get rid of a creature for good without having to dedicate card slots to graveyard hate. The creature doesn't even have to be indestructible: if it's troublesome enough for my deck (example: Vorel against my Arixmethes deck), I want it in exile.
Yes, I'm aware of Song of the Dryads and Imprisoned in the Moon and they're great, especially against commanders... but they're not PERMANENT. Yesterday, I used SotD on an Avacyn, only for it to get exiled before the game rotated back to me.

As many as it takes to make one feel safe. For me, that would be at least five.

Nikya can be used to do a weird: Tap for double land. Sacrifice, and cast deal x damage to player spell like blaze or banefire... or better yet- a comet storm with a few kicks... just for kicks :D
Sharktocrab with Biomancer is a super combo in limited. Make your 4/4 bigger every turn while constantly tapping down the enemies biggest thing. Its fun.
My favorite of the set is the Ooze lord! Perfect for my Jund Ooze tribal deck! XD
Smothering Tithe is my favorite new card by far. I’ll need one for Darien for sure, and also for my Abzan Enchantress list.
My worry with angel of grace is having to have that mana open. That’s a lot.
Favourite card is captive audience by far, going straight into my xantcha deck.
Lavinia is going into my Sen Triplets deck, there's a few people in my playgroup that like to cheat mana costs. Riot would be nuts with Urabrask. I'm most excited for Vannifar though, both as a commander and as a new piece of my Muldrotha deck.
I think you're underestimating Lavinia's power. The first line s the important one, NOT the second one. If, say, an opponent lays a sol ring turn 1, you play lavinia turn 2, your opponent can't just cast a 4 drop. She basically deactivates your opponents mana rocks for noncreatures, which is NUTS

But you can potentially cast 2 2 drops. As well, mid to late game, this does little, as established boards arnt likely trying to reach for something beyond what they could normally cast with there lands. There just trying to cast multiple big things, rather than 1 super big thing
They can if it’s a creature tho... it’s not nuts. It’s just okay. Let’s say one player gets a T1 sol ring. That player also needs to not have a creature deck. If they don’t, then they’re just playing at the same pace as everyone else again. And that’s a lot of “if”s. It’s very underwhelming

Reason gaddock teeg is so annoying is it usually needs low cost targeted removal, when a lot of people play boardwipes.(that tend to be more then 4 mana) This can still get hit by boardwipes. just have to wait till your land drops reach that point.
When I saw Mirror March, the first thing that came to my mind was the Battlebond duo Zndrsplt and Okaun, especially Okaun.

Another thing to mention is Simic Ascendancy interacting with things like path of discovery and other explore counters.
Adapt is better than Monstrosity. Monstrosity makes a creature monstrous thus you cannot do the ability again. However, if you can move the counters off of Adapt you can do it again, for example, using Spike Rogue or Spike Cannibal.

please make an adapt deck, so we can all laugh at how bad it is.
I disagree. There’s a lot of ways creatures can get incidental counters when they ETB. Then you can’t adapt at all
you could move them off with a bioshift for 1mana "move all +1/+1 from one creature to another creature you control" or somethin/
Didn't like half the old Simic cards move counters around? It seems to play better with its old cards than some of the other sets. Which is cool because its kinda fun to use these 'return to' sets to make a themed deck that uses new and old cards from that setting.
The card i'm most exited about is Priest of forgotten gods, because I play a Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker deck, and this is a 1 power creature. Also, it's a free sac outlet ramp card draw gravepactish drain card for only two mana. It's insane.

Janky combo deck idea: Sidisi, undead vizier -> tutor ad nauseam -> ad nauseam most of deck (lands + awaken the erstwhile) -> erstwhile your 80+ card hand and get 80+ 2/2 zombies.
I am going to ramp and loot like crazy in my Ezuri claw of progress deck when I get a hold of these new cards.
Lumbering Battlement also helps your team dodge a board wipe. Obviously sorcery speed (unless you have Josh's favorite card) but could be good if you think someone else might wipe soon.

Verity Circle is better than it looks. Don't just focus on creatures with tap activations. This could be good in a Derevi, Empyrial Tactician deck.

15:50 This would also work with creatures that add mana when entering the battlefield. So priest of urabrask and nim deathmantle would work for less mana.
Sharktocrab made me realize that the Simic Combine is the MtG equivalent of Umbrella Inc. from the Resident Evil series; Sharktocrab itself reminds me of Brzak, a monster from Resident Evil 6! :o

Smothering may be sweet in monowhite period, but is also absolutely busted in grouphug deck. When your prosperty effects are giving you both fuel AND mana...boy, i think you just win in the spot. Also, as you guys say, really sweet with howling mine, font of mythos and that short of things they play, breaking that symmetry. Neat card for sure, one of the chase cards of the set for EDH.

I think you guys are undervaluing the Tome of the Guildpact. It would work amazingly well in a Cascade deck, because every cascade spell is multicoloured. Suddenly it turns into "5 mana, play a cascade spell, draw 2-5 cards and add 1 mana of any colour to your manapool." I know for a fact this is going into my Ramos 5 colour control deck where only 3 cards are colourless or monocoloured.
One great thing with Nikya and Temur sabertooth is you just use the sabertooth when you have an instant/sorcery you wanna case. need to wipe? Float the mana, bounce her, sabertooth is now indestructible, wipe, them use the floated mana to put her back down.
That upcoming Jund (or Chaos) deck with free sacrifice outlets. Rhythm of the Wild, Murderous Redcap, Puppeteer Clique, and Woodfall Primus.

Mulldrifter: draw your deck
P. Drake/Palinchron: infinite mana
Gonti: Exile opponents deck
Can be run either Esper or Azorius.
Much nicer to watch now that you guys are reunited. DJ is tons of fun and I was able to learn a lot from his perspective. However, JL and DJ are both quite argumentative, which caused some awkward moments during the episodes I found. Jimmy and JL though is a match made in heaven. ❤️ Can't wait for the new GK!

@46:21 They changed that, as long as you have a way to generate U mana (your command tower got turned into a island) you could activate that ability
What everyone overlooks with Lavinia is that she stops you from spending more mana (at once) than lands you have. Your mana rocks and dorks still work; you just can't spend it all at once. For example, if you have seven lands, each producing one mana, and a Llanowar Elf, you can still spend all eight mana; you just can't put it all into one spell. You can cast two 4-mana spells.
Only brought this up because everyone says "turns off mana rocks" and that's not true.
It doesn't "turn them off," but it does make most of them functionally worthless.
I think the best part of electrodominance is the instant speed nature of what it does. Burn something, for 6ish, take another turn, on their endstep. Very good.
I'm seriously looking forward to building a Teysa Karlov deck. Can't wait to see how DJ built her.
Note that Smothering Tithe becomes crazy once you flip Treasure Map. Giving white decks not only ramp but a steady stream of card draws.
You could also tap all of your lands THEN bounce Nikya to cast non creature spells. Float a bunch of mana while Nikya is otherwise no longer limiting what you cast.

Bant, not banned. It means that you will have to three color if you want to use Arcades, which affects deck construction.

I'm stoked to put Rhythm of the Wild into my Vaevictis Asmadi, the Dire deck.
Tome of the guild pact is exactly what my Ramos cascade deck needs. It only runs 4 spells that are 1 color only and they are cards like rampant growth.

When you guys do the episode for game knights showing the decks for the Ravnica Allegiance.Legends, I definitely wanted to see Prime speaker Vannafar.
I've been WAITING for this episode! (also, hooray Aerosmith!). ETA: I was thinking about Teysa, and depending on the kind of build you're doing, you could pair it with Ashes of the Abhorrent or Open the Graves. Plus, even small early cards are useful later in the game with Teysa out - A Hunted Witness or Doomed Dissenter is immediately useful - especially if you have a sac outlet going. Ashes means you can't cast from the graveyard, but it doesn't stop effects that return cards from the graveyard to your hand, so while Reassembling Skeleton loses utility when paired with Ashes, Gravedigger doesn't. Open the Graves is just good with Teysa where it might be too expensive (mana wise) to run in most Orzhov decks for the limited utility you get.
also, Persistent Petitioners wants to be part of the mill decks they've been doing with Psychic Corrosion and Patient Rebuilding. Going to make Ixalan's Binding even more of a staple in standard for anything running white.
Awaken the Erstwhile could be stupid helpful if you already have a Death Baron or any aristocrat effect out - pair it with the later mentioned Priest of the Forgotten Gods, refill your hand, and gain mana to cast stuff you draw. Sounds like a decent option to me.
High Alert - I'd absolutely run this in my Standard Arcades deck as a similar effect to Arcades. It works well in Standard with things like Piston Fist Cyclops or Novice Knight or any of a zillion walls - particularly something like Amaranthine Wall which can give itself indestructible for 2.

Teysa's second ability work really well with afterlife. Then add teysa's orhov Scion and you can exile things for days.
I'm pretty excited to try out Nikya with Zacama. If you get to untap, tap all your lands for 12, play zacama float 3 for 15 mana which you can then use on his abilities. Plus if you could squeeze in a activated ability cost reduced like the new Biomancers familiar or training grounds. Shenanigans. 15 activations of zacama in the turn he enters???
