I’ve gotten a lot of comments thinking this is wrong, so let me clarify. Other weapon types allow you to hold down strong attacks and sometimes this results in two hits. For example, the halberd functions like this wherein holding strong attack fully does a little hit then a big hit. The difference with thrusting swords and why I said they have a combo is that it’s two separate inputs, not just holding down strong attack. So R2 + R2, not just holding R2. I know that’s a little confusing, but hopefully that clears it up.

Pretty sure my longsword and claymore have a combo for heavy, but I'd have to try it again to verify. The light obviously does, but I could have sworn the heavy does as well. One sweeps forward, the second goes back, the opposite of the light attack combo.

Fun fact about double drinking - if you're able to access both flasks at once, such as having them assigned to your pouch, you can alternate between crimson and cerulean when doing a double drink, which can be helpful if, for example, you get hit by an attack that both does damage and also drains FP, or if you're just low on both.

The map tip at the end is extremely important, people are wandering aimlessly around looking for upgrade stones and their minds are blown when I tell them that.
It doesn't end there either, the way the map is drawn is very deliberate and conveys way more information than it first appears. You can find stuff like churches (that usually contain sacred tears for your flask), graveyards (contain a lot of rune items), and more, by just finding the right patterns and shapes that are consistent.
Also when you first enter a region the map location is always marked with an obelisk, just place a blue marker there and off you go, should be the first thing you go for.

    • @Hephaestus_God
      @Hephaestus_God Před 2 lety +123

The biggest tip I have for the map is R3 once you unlock underground areas. It never mentions it and just casually puts it on the bottom left which nobody reads.
I was traviling up and down long elevators becaue I thought I could only fast travel underground if I was underground and vice versa. R3 just swaps the maps

Also, on a WAYYYY more obvious, but still maybe worth mentioning, note: Minor Erdtrees are also on the map once you've found the Obelisk in a region. And any perfect stone circles are worth checking out as well.
Oh, and ... the map has custom map markers. For what ever reason reading tooltips is hard and it took me until ~20 hours in to find out I can mark stuff I don't want to forget. You get 100 markers you can put down, so more than enough.

A quick note about the falling leaves buff: someone else pointed out that it seemed to be happening a lot more for them since adding a group password, and I'd noticed the same thing. Two things:when you pick up a new item the tooltip shows the icon for the item category it belongs to. This helps finding it in your inventory when you have no idea what you just looted. Second, you can actually sort your inventory by type, new, or number held. The game only tells you when you press help instead of showing the bind on the bottom so I think many people will miss this. 2:48 I actually recommend *against* putting your lantern on one of your 4 precious pouch slots - those should be reserved for things you need immediate access to during combat. There's never really any time that you're suddenly thrust into darkness, so it's fine to take the time to go into your inventory to use it, but if you'd really want quicker access to it, put it in one of the 2 extra pouch slots. You have the open the menu and scroll over to it, but that's still convenient.

Definitely one of the most satisfying moments in my life as a gamer.

I'm so happy you're drawing attention to the Barricade Shield skill. I've been trivialising so many melee encounters with a combination of that skill and guard counters, even against enemies with two-handed swords it's ridiculously good, it even seems to increase the shield's non-physical resistances slightly as well as greatly reduced stamina usage. You can literally block an entire boss attack combo and still have stamina left for a guard counter most of the time.

In co-op, using a critical hit on a staggered enemy is almost always disadvantageous because it locks out damage from all other sources during the entire animation. Instead-- don't do it and all party members can keep attacking while the enemy is staggered. Different from Dark Souls 3 as well, hitting a staggered enemy doesn't immediately stop the staggering (until they're in that downed state), so you can hit them while they're falling and still get a critical hit after a swing or two.

The crouching attacks just seem to be the attacks you do after rolling, just stationary of course
So if those look good you know what to expect, knowing the moveset of your weapons is very important
Also a good tip for those that don't know (if it wasn't mentioned already):
The angle of the camera can affect the attack animation, when it looks up your attacks swing more up, this is really good when some attacks go over small enemies heads, what you do is stop locking on and swing with your camera looking to the ground. It's annoying but it generally works and with weapons that have thrust attacks it's good to hit certain enemy parts (like the head)

I mean . . . this aspect is like the core of what BotW was designed around, and they didn't make it a little 10% buff or debuff, but a HUGE factor that couldn't go unnoticed like metal weapons being lightning magnets. This is one area that From is definitely not innovating in, but borrowing from.
And lightning water circles weren't from DS2, they were in DS1 as well. DS2 added the lightning doing more damage from a player being wet thing because it added being wet as a "Status effect" for the first time. To be clear on the "water thing," as there were a couple in the video.

For 3:34 "Golden leaves at night," this buff isn't night-time exclusive.
It's a blessing of the Erd Tree, and there's a few ways you can tell that it's active. One is the falling gold leaves that you mentioned, another is rays of radiant light shining from the Erd Tree, another is that you'll have golden anime powering up lines coming off your character, and finally you will have the status icon under your health bar that looks like the golden claw status icon that shows up when you use the golden claw item.
I haven't tested if this rune bonus stacks with other rune bonuses, but since the golden claw item stacks with the golden scarab talisman I assume that this buff would also stack. So if you're sitting on a bunch of golden claws that you haven't been using, the Erd Tree blessing might be a good excuse to use them since you (probably) get to double dip on the buff.

A small detail I've found about switching weapons on horseback:
You know how it's good to two hand your weapon before going horseback, so that you get the strength increase from two handing? I've found that if you switch to your other hand's weapon, there is no way to get the two handed bonus again while mounted. I found this while using a scythe I can only wield effectively when two handing. If I swap from it to use my seal, and swap back, the red X is shown on the scythe, meaning I'm no longer technically two handing it. It's pretty brutal because I end up doing next to no damage with the scythe when this happens, where as when I am two handing it, it does a lot of damage.

    1) if you hold a heavy attack with a shield on a horse, then the character will be protected from damage while riding, but, unfortunately, will not cause damage to enemies, for example, ramming them with a shield on the move. As well as a heavy blow with a weapon. Such a block on a horse cannot be kept forever, after a few seconds (or when you release the heavy attack button), the character will hit with a shield.
    2) Crossbow shoots fast, but takes a long time to reload. Moreover, you can reload the crossbow at any convenient moment, i.e. firing and reloading are two independent actions.
The first click on the shot button - the crossbow makes a shot.
The second click - the character loads the crossbow into combat position, and does not make a shot.
And also a crossbow and a bow can be prepared for a shot by holding the shot, the character will aim the bow / crossbow at the target, but the shot itself will be fired only when you release the shot button. This is convenient, especially with a bow, you can pull the string in advance, and wait for the right moment to shoot directly, if the enemy is moving quickly, or is covered by a shield. Or if you are riding a horse, because you can’t shoot on a horse with your back to the enemy, you can hold down the attack, turn the horse around and immediately shoot.

Good trick that might help with boss fights: Skeletal Malitia is an amazing Ash Summon. It is cheaper than the larger crowd Summons like Demihumans and gives you 2 Skeletons with spears. The reason they are so good is because they behave exactly like the skeletal enemies in game. When a skeleton goes down, it has to be hit again or else it will get back up with full health after a short delay. This applies to your Skeletal Militia summon as well. And Bosses seem to instantly de-aggro the skeletons after they go down, so they don't get attacked on the ground and can just keep coming back over and over. Really effective.

Some tips and features I came across:-
    - Hold down the sprint button while climbing ladders and crouching, to go faster.
    - Use "Rainbow Stones" to check whether a fall will kill you or not. Throw one over an edge, if it shatters audibly, that means certain death, if it doesn't shatter and remains there, you will survive the fall. (Helpful to figure out troll messages near edges/falls)
    - Leave helpful messages whenever you can, the moment someone "Applauds" (likes) your messages, you're health will be replenished to full. This can really come in clutch in fights/bosses when you're out of healing flasks. So always "Applaud" helpful messages whenever you see them, you might just help a fellow Tarnished win a fight.
    - Press Y or Triangle on your controller while leaving a finger message to increase the number of words and make it complex and even add gestures.
    - The obelisk/tower icon on an empty/unfilled map is where you get map pieces.
    - The random golden leaves falling from the sky at night can be triggered even more frequently if you join a multiplayer group. Each time a fellow group member defeats a major boss (shardbearer) or becomes an Elden Lord, the Erdtree Blessing Rune Buff will trigger. "SEEKERS" is VattiVidya's group, quite a big one, as every 5 mins I get this buff. Do note that fast travelling and resting gets rid of the buff.
    - When levelling up stats, you can check the middle and right side tabs to see how much damage/resistance/HP/FP is increased, specific increase in Left/Right Handed weapon damage in multiple slots are also shown.
    - If you see golden eyed enemies, always kill them, as they carry 5 times the runes than they normally would.
    - Weapons, gear and items have rarities. Golden is Legendary, Blue is Rare, and White/no colour is common gear. When you pick up a new item and it has a blue background, it's a rare item; and if it's a rare gear piece, it likely has bonus effects. This rarity is also represented on the item pickup glow, rare items will have a blueish glow, rather than a normal white one.
    - Always read item descriptions, they provide lore and mention whenever any item/weapon/gear has any bonus stats/effects.
    - You can find "Bell" items throughout the world, these Bell items when given to the Twin Husk Maiden in Roundtable Hold, unlock additional items to purchase or other merchant inventories. You can find Bells that allow you to buy an unlimited amount of Somber/Smithing Stones, Ghost/Glovewort. And, if you "accidentally" kill a merchant, they'll drop a Bell which can be used to unlock their shop inventories at the Roundtable. It is inadvisable to kill merchants, as most of them have questlines which give better & unique rewards.
    - To know if you're being chased by an enemy or not, you can press the map button. If you cannot open the map, you're being chased by someone and have aggro. If you can open the map, you're likely safe.

You can also do it in your friends' games, so up to two people can join in on the jolly soul farming. Don't forget the buy 3 chicken feet from Patches so you get almost 100k souls each time.

The stealth attack actually usefull in pvp, since people didn't expect a fast aanimation from heavy weapon.

It took me over 10 hours wishing that the game had a stamp system similiar to BOTW. And it has one... Just press X or Square on the controller to add markers to the map. I don't know how I missed this.

Awesome vid. Love the ending of hitching a ride on the wagon.

You get bonus runes if you land a killing blow on an enemy that does a huge amount of overkill damage

From my admittedly minimal testing, I think the overkill bonus only applies when full health bar and a little more is taken away with a single hit. In any case, this is usually achievable only with a backstab. Definitely if you are farming vulgar militia near the sanctum or, if you are evil, the dejected albunarics on the palace approach ledge, you might look into bumping your backstabs a bit with trinkets if you can or upgrading a dagger for this purpose. You will see XP jump a couple hundred and that gets multiplied eating a golden foot or using golden scarab trinket so it can really add up.
