      @@Lachy314 I'm doing a battle mage build (40 hours thus far) and I've had some bosses that I flattened easily and others that destroyed me in the blink of an eye multiple times. I like the balance that I'm experiencing because some aspects of the game are easier and then at other times I'll get my butt handed to me over and over again while I try to figure out the boss. It's a nice balance. But I must say, doing a build like this is super tempting.

    Bad news everyone, the 1.04 patch shot a crucial part of this build in the foot. The infinite fp tear now only lasts 5 seconds instead of the 10-15 it used to be, meaning comet azur can’t be used like it was before.
    Update: I mistakingly thought that the shortened duration was intentional, turns out that wasn’t supposed to happen. Even then, until it’s reverted this build will be much less effective.

      @@ZeigMeister Right, because it's totally reasonable for a pure Str glass cannon dual wielding massive ultra greatswords to be rendered obsolete by every magic build in the game. Magic will likely be nerfed, with a full build, everything is trivialized. That doesn't mean it has to be nerfed into the ground, but Azur Comet should probably be a bit less accessible in a boss fight. Maybe if they just give it a longer cast time, or slower damage ticks.
      Friendly reminder tho, it's all fun and games, and you really shouldn't be that pressed whether the meta changes or not. I've been playing sword-and-board since day 1, just because it's what I find to be the most fun. That doesn't mean I have anything against magic, and it certainly doesn't mean I'm a "loser." Having Rock Sling and the dragon rune farm early basically re-balances the game.

  • @bizbarley74
    @bizbarley74 Před rokem +96

    One very important note, that very few people seem to know about, and could be worth restarting your game, is that you can repeatedly kill the sleeping dragon for infinite runes without killing a single boss or even enemy. 50,000 a pop right off the bat, or 70,000 with the golden scarab, which requires killing a boss.
    However, the foot will not work with this trick. What you need to do is get the dragon down to almost no health, then summon torrent for the last few hits so you can move quickly, as soon as the final blow is struck, you need to haul ass back to the site of grace in less than 10 seconds, immediately rest, and if done correctly, you will get all the runes and the dragon will not despawn. This is working as of January 13th, 2023. Even at the very beginning of the game you should be able to kill the dragon in about 10 minutes, worst case scenario, probably less. But lets just say 10 minutes. 10 minutes = 50,000-70,000 souls, so 50,000 -70,000 x 6 = 300,000-420,000 per hour. A bit later in the game you can spec your stats into a strong bleed build and get this down to about 2 minutes, I've been able to get 5,000,000-6,000,000 souls per hour using this trick and after some practice, I can reach the grace every time. After you get to the desired level, simply respec your stats back to your desired build.
    So as you can imagine, given that you can do this at most characters starting level, fighting no bosses at all, you can get to a very high level early, get strong enough to get the ability to respec early and collect bleed spells and items to hasten the process, kill the dragon over and over and reach the 125 meta in an afternoon, instead of weeks. Stock up on some tears and you can try out a bunch of different weapons and builds in a single playthrough early if you want to see what kind of character you like best and then progress your journey. I really wish I knew this my first time playing.
    Just be sure to back up your save before killing the dragon, so if you mess up the timing, you are not screwed. This is simple on the PC and PS (via cloud save or usb), however, Xbox users are pretty much out of luck and need to get it perfect every time unless you can close the app before auto save. Cheers.

      @@alessandromaccaroni8481 well I played every one of their titles, so for me, Elden Ring was not very challenging. I think it's by far the most forgiving they ever made. It's huge though, and if you wanna find the good stuff, there's many good walkthroughs on CZcams. Some spoiler free that are just for items. My greatest tip to someone that never played a FromSoftWare game before would be to understand character builds in the Souls series before playing. You wanna pick a playstyle you like early on, like do u wanna be a mage and cast spells? Do you wanna be a warrior that uses heavy melee weapons to smash people up close, or be a priest that can heal and throw bolts of lightning and breathe fire? Once you know your preferred character, only put stat points into strength or dex for melee, for mages all intelligence, etc, etc. You wanna plan from the very beginning of the game exactly where you want your final numbers to be at level 137 (community meta level). Seriously use a calculator and plan out your build before you get serious into the game. This is where 99% of rage quitters and people that get frustrated have their issues. You can look up character builds online to get ideas.
      My last character was a mage (aka easy mode). Stats 40 vig, 30 mind, 20 endurance, 12 str, 18 dex, 80 intelligence. Level 137 meta. Planned the numbers before even playing. Was a breeze and an amazing adventure. Never completely kill that dragon and you can level to your hearts content. Good luck and enjoy!

    In case you didn't know, you can dual-wield staves and get the bonuses from both. For example, use your +10 staff in one hand to use its magic scaling and keep the meteorite staff in your other hand to boost rock sling. In the same vein, you can keep a glinstone based staff in your other hand to boost the lil' swords. It's a very noticeable damage increase at basically no-cost and far far less annoying than switching to the jelly shield for that boost.

      If you then set yourself on fire with fire's deadly sin, all you have to do is run in the direction of other players and it builds up death-blight to instakill them.

    I want to say that there is a spell that is likr comet azur but with less range but a fatest hitbox that is called meteorite of astel if you have lusat +10 right hand and météorite staff left hand you can have the power of lusat with the 30% damage boost on gravity spell so it deal more damage than comet azur and it deal it with physical damage so against boss like elden beast or rennala with a really high magic resist this spell will be your best friend.

    It's a fun trick when it works. One thing I'll say is that relying on this too much is great way to get stuck with bosses that just sidestep it,stagger you out of casting it with ranged attack of their own or just have too much hp and walk through it.
    Again, it's really damn fun for like 70% of the game,but after it stops working I failed to find use for the spell outside of this wombo combo. It's damage is actually pretty bad in terms of FP to Damage ratio,like you'll actually deal more damage and safer by spamming that frostbolt spell,which also causes frostbite.

    My experience with this build: it's really tough to actually setup the one shot on some foes, the build itself tends to be very squishy until higher levels, and your quality of life outside of boss fights depends heavily on picking up good side spells like you showed in the video. Those other two spells, especially rock sling, are a big deal for exactly the reasons shown.
    For me personally, a faith build with blasphemous blade, erdtree blessing, lord's heal, and the mimic summon is more powerful and diverse, able to take on more targets more easily. But I would say this build is one of the easiest ways to cheese the first half of the game until you get up to the point that you're ready to go after blasphemous blade and the mimic summon.

The Magic Glintblade can also can have a high chance of missing enemies because of its charge time. Yes, it counters their programmed dodge, but a lot move so much (especially most mobile bosses) that it misses when it DOES fire. Most of it was self explanatory so there was no need and the cuts were fine, but some of it is a little confusing. My only complaint about this video is the fact that some of the spots you say we can just go to and grab the item in question, it's way more complicated than I realized. Specifically the cave in Caelid that has the Golden Scarab talisman. A simple heads up that you need something that can undo the effect of scarlet rot would have come in really handy and it ended up costing me 7,000 runes because I didn't know that going into it. Other than that, I've been following this guide and it's working well so far. Just have to find enough runes now to get my intelligence stat high enough to cast Comet Azur. Great work, as usual.

    This build is tremendously powerfull but, you need a perfect situation to break the boss in one hit, they don't always move as you need and many times they hit you cutting off the spell.This spell don't track and you can't move when cast it. In any case amazing amazing, good job man.

    Magic Scorpion Charm would also be a nice addition to this build when fighting bosses or just when you don't need 20% more runes. An extra 12% magic damage which multiplicatively increases your damage the magic-cracked tear. Granted you are doing hella damage, a little more never hurt ;)

    Also, you can farm that dragon up to 5 times or something like that. Just after killing it, because its death animation takes so long, you can run back to the grace behind you and it will respawn, allowing you to get much, much more runes.

    The reason I'd never do this is because it relies on knowing where everything is beforehand. And these things being quite far, you'd never do this on a natural run when you're exploring.
    Fun, but I'll stick to wandering and struggling.

    • @robk79
      @robk79 Před 2 lety +3

      I wouldn't do this either because it doesn't look fun. But I think you can be pretty well-equipped as a "regular" mage just by wandering around.
      I am playing as a mage fighter. I don't have these skills or spells, but I have found a decent amount of stuff for my build just exploring. The only thing I looked up was my first staff (started as a wretch before I decided to go magic) but after that it has been fun with casting and melee.

    Feel like it's worth mentioning, you can kill the cleanrot knights in the abandoned cave with the meteor staff and rock sling fairly easily before you kill the dragon, allowing you to stack the gold scarab talisman with the chicken foot, you get an extra 20k runes for only two points invested in int!
