- This video is an update of what we've been up to out in the Montana Garage since finishing the frame pocket kit. Then, we take care of some junk in m trunk. Follow along as we perform operation hide the mini-tubs by doing a bit of bodywork to make the mini-tub install a little less obvious to the untrained eye. You super smart trifive guys will still know it happened though...

For sand Blasting I use Coal Slag I buy from Tractor Supply. Works great. I bought a Harbor Freight two tank blaster and had Heavy duty Purpose build Blasting hoses built at my local pipe fitting shop. Works great after modifying the blaster a bit
Thanks for the tips!
Interesting video, thanks. DD Speed Shop brought me here.
Thanks man. Hope you enjoyed it enough to stick around and watch more!
New subscriber here!! Just picked up a unrestore 55 Chevy two door belair sport coupe,, Just started disassemble.. going to do a lot of the work myself.. i'm just south of you in Rigby Idaho. Thank for your video's
Awesome! Congrats on getting the "55! Enjoy the project. Thanks for watching and subscribing, more content to come.
Doing a great job. It’s never to much work if it’s what you want. Your know it’s there and that’s what counts.👍😎
Thanks 👍
Next time you could try glass beading it. Not sure where you could get it, but it would leave a slick finish. Like brand new. Or you could strip it with aircraft stripper or some plain stripper. You could pick it up at Lowes. I tried it and it does fairly good. Not trying to tell you what to do but I in the process of restoring a 64 Buick Skylark 2dr. hardtop. What I'm going to do in the trunk is use bed liner then that splatter paint over it. I am going to even spray the under side and maybe the firewall. There should be a way to tint it with some color to match the body.or a lighter shade. I know they can put it in a spray can, because they do paint. Don't look at it that way. If you get enjoyment out of it,go for it. That is the whole purpose of doing this kind of stuff. Ronnie.
Thanks for the tip Ronnie. I may bedline inside my truck as well. I'll see what it looks like once I do the underside of the car and decide from there.
@@MontanaGarage Remember to use epoxy primer under the bed liner first. Ronnie.
@@brdnsky6417 That's the plan. Thanks for looking out for me!
An orange '55 Chevy your dad bought in Rapid City in '70 or '71? No way to know for sure, but I might have been there when the car was painted. When I was young in the mid 60's, living in Rockville, MD, a teen next door neighbor (Larry) painted his '55 Chevy orange with black "tiger stripes". Pissed off a bunch of neighbors because the overspray got all over everyone's cars. Not ours, my dad was at work in Washington, DC. LOL Fast forward a few years and we've moved to South Dakota to be near family after my dad passed away, Larry has joined the Air Force and is now stationed at Ellsworth AFB near Rapid City - and yes, he brought his orange '55 Chevy with him. He was a couple years older, but he and my older brother were good friends and they kept in contact. with each other. I don't remember if the '55 still had the "tiger stripes" on it when I last saw the car in Rapid. No way to know if it's the same car but it would be cool if it was. Keep up the good work.
Super cool. This one didn't have tiger strips when my dad got it that I remember, but I will definitely ask him about that. Thanks for watching and for sharing the story.
Tractor supply has the best price on the media, it's like 12 dollars a bag. I don't have any issues as long as I throttle the media on the bottom valve, if it's opened all the way it clogs.
Unfortunately we do not have a Tractor Supply here but thanks for the tip. My Harbor Freight blaster was constantly glogging no matter how I set it up. Thanks for watching!
JUST subscribed! Congrats on winning the DD Speed Shop '57! Dan said you are a Tri-5 guy. Had to check out your channel. VERY surprised to see your '57 Delivery. I have one too, building a true 60's era Gasser with (just to be different) a 500 Caddy engine. Straight axle, the whole works. I'll be watching your Delivery build with great interest. Now have to go back and do a little binge-watching.
Thanks man. I love them deliveries. Would love to see yours. Do you have Instagram or CZcams etc with photos? Let me know if you do so I can check it out. Sounds like a cool build as well.
@@MontanaGarage No, I don't have a youtube or instagram channel, but I do post on Facebook "Rusted and Running Rides" occasionally under my name. There are pics there of my '57 Gasser frame. It's a different '57 frame that I bought just for that purpose. I've had the Delivery body, an ex-60's drag car, in dry storage for the last 40 years now. Time to get it out and onto a rotisserie.
@@stevenaugustin6784 Sweet man. I'll see if I can find you over there on Facebook and check it out.
@@MontanaGarage The other thing we could do if you don't mind is to contact each other through email. Mine is 68L79malibu@gmail.com
I'm enjoying your videos. I am doing a lot of the same on a 56 although I am not going the tub route. I have enough to fix without adding more. I like seeing younger people (I'm 68) saving these cars we grew up with and love. I saw your channel when watching DD's speed shop give away. I hope you enjoy the 57.
Thanks Walter. I somehow always end up doing more than I planned or needed to do. Maybe someday I'll get over that and actually put this thing back together. Thanks for watching and good luck with the '56!
Black with red stripes
Not sure about the stripes...
Have you considered a different media? On frames and such I used glass or black beauty coal slag. It’s too aggressive for exterior body panels but fine for floors, trunks, frames, suspension etc.
Also, an air and water separator is a must for blasting. I am enjoying catching up on your project!
I don't have a separator, but I do have some sort of filter that I hoped would be sufficient. I did use different media for the frame, but read about the walnut so wanted to give it a try. I will experiment with other media next time I blast I am sure. Thanks for watching and for the input. New video just posted, check it out and let me know what you think!
congrats on winning the DD speed shop car, that would make a nice daily driver for the wife or kids, enjoy it. You gained another new follower.
Thanks man. My son agrees and has laid claim to it! He'll get his turn im sure. 👊
I feel the same
Thanks for watching and taking the time to reply. Much appreciated!
looks good!
Thanks a lot man. I appreciate you watching and commenting. Now I gotta get to work on that heater.
There are drain hoses two in trunk and two up front cowl area the hoses deteriorate and rust out the trunk badly around seam joints, they replacing, I use J B. Weld Avery strong bond when mixed right. A excellent seam sealer is made by Eastwood .
Thanks for sharing the info, and thanks for watching! I'll be seam sealing soon so it's nice to know the Eastwood stuff is good.
I also go by the NHRA rule book , 10 .oo at Summit , it has very good safety rules needed to pass inspection, thing you never thought of saves time and money.
Right on man!
You need a new baseball cap!!!
That's true, but obviously I really like this one. Thanks for watching and commenting man. Any suggestions for cool chevy/hot rod hats?
You know you talking about sandblasting in this episode dry ice people that do Dre ice it removes all the paint without screwing up the metal
Thanks for the tip Greg. I've seen dry ice used to remove undercoating and such, never just paint. I'll have to give it a try sometime.
Chad says you have to flood it
I recently saw Bad Chad saying flood it. I will add more flood action next time. Thanks for watching!
I used por 15 on my floor and it worked great
Good to know! I've heard some bad things about POR 15 from the internet, but also heard from people like you that liked it, so who knows? Glad it worked out for you, probably going with SPI epoxy on mine. Thanks for watching and for the input!
@@MontanaGarage thanks for the reply I am a tri five guy here in Winnipeg I swear by por 50 which i believe is a epoxy I enjoy your channel and will be watching all the time
@@michaelhoban4238 Thanks man. Maybe I'll give it a try sometime. I appreciate the support.
You need to be using seam sealer . And I like fiber glass body. Filled on weld seams it more water proof than standard body filler.
Thanks for the advice Konrad. Yep, I have a ton of seam sealing to do, just haven't got to it yet. Any advice on specific brands or application process? It's always helpful to get tips from someone who has done it. Thanks for watching!
take those mounts out--- the orig style dont last long w horsepower
Thanks for the input man. Yeah, I used to break the rotor from the distributor cap banging into the firewall when the rear mounts would get bad. Think I've decided to cut 'em out and go to a newer style mount. Thanks for watching.
tri five mob
La famiglia. Thanks for watching.
Yep we’re 50 this year lol
A guy's not getting any younger, huh? Thanks for watching.
I bought my first car from Rapid Chev in 66
That's cool. I don't remember but I must have mentioned Rapid City in the video. Do you still live in the Black Hills area? Thanks for watching!
@@MontanaGarage You said your dad bought the 55 in Rapid. I live near Custer now but Rapid was my home until I graduated HS. I moved away the day I graduated but moved back after 47 years.
@@MontanaGarage 55 2 door posts are a dime a dozen. Of the shoebox cars, I was always a fan of the 57. But over time, I began to like the 55 and now it's my favorite. If you have been or ever go to "Back to the Fifties". You'll see a boatload of them. I find your spring relocation interesting. I have a 37 Chev PU that I'm restomoding. I've had it for decades and quit working on it when my dad passed in 93. I'm going to do it now. I moved the trailer that it's been sitting in for years to a position to unload it into my garage the other day. Just need to round up some help getting it out.
@@adubbelde1 Cool. I lived in Rapid until junior high, and still have family there so make it back once in a while. Both my '55 and '57 are from Rapid.
@@adubbelde1 I hope to make it to that someday. I prefer the '55 post, but for '57 a like the hardtop better, and of course I'm partial to the '57 sedan delivery. Good luck with your project!
