And then she went on to get divorced (again) and complained about how Christians needed to extend compassion and acceptance to divorced women. She railed against gays, but once she began experiencing prejudice from the church, all of a sudden the church needed to be more open-minded. Cherry picking who the church should be accepting of. Oh, the irony. Oh, and she has a gay granddaughter now.
One word that would describe Anita that word would be #HYPOCRITE!

It’s ironic in that Christianity always talks about love, yet its followers are often full of hate.
Many Christians are quite loving tho - at least in regards to their families, communities, and the like. Many charities are run by them, and some churches and other houses of worship do things like serve meals to the needy, and even offer beds to the homeless.
Old fashioned family values??? Since then she has divorced her husband and cheated her employees. At one time divorce was looked on as a sin. Cheating people out of their salaries is not very christian if you ask me. She needs to take the log out of her own eye. Matthew 7:5 in the Bible.

Every single law that was passed because of her campaigns (Florida) has been repealed. Not a single aspect has remained. I can't think of a single political figure in recent history that with peaceful methods has been so totally and completely defeated. And all that didn't happen posthumously but IN HER LIFETIME!!!! Her husband was a NASA test pilot so they are financially well off and she has been offered 6 million for movie rights to her life story. Plus Anita's campaign accomplished her objective as she won. Her campaign was called SAVE THE CHILDREN. Laws were passed and court cases have supported her mission in parochial schools. Exactly what she wanted. That is why parochial schools can hire and fire whomever they want no matter what the laws say for secular schools. Looks like Amy Coney Barrett is headed onto the Supreme Court. Anita is happy about her selection onto the court. She said her faith in God is stronger than ever.

Dade county had passed legislation in 1977 establishing sexual deviants as a protected class. This wasn't a matter of merely "allowing" deviants to teach, but preventing them from being dismissed by force of law, effectively forcing them onto public school students, which the majority of Dade county resident voters immediately & overwhelmingly rejected.
By contrast, divorcees were never a specially protected class; and obviously, divorcees aren't obliged to recruit people for homosexuality. Anita didn't "cherry-pick", she responded in the best interest of the children, to a recently-passed, immoral ordinance.

She really never was that successful as far as the top 40. Her four and only top 40 hits peaked at 5, 10, 18, and 30. That was it. She sings fine but obviously only does songs that are not technically difficult. In a very comfortable range for her, without difficult riffs or other demanding vocal techniques. Seems she only just did what was needed to make a record. Loads of people could do that.
It doesn't say much for her singing that she failed to make a comeback in Branson, Missouri.

Homosexuality is not a choice, just as heterosexuality is not a choice, and therefore it is not something you can ”disagree” with.

There's some bitter irony that Anita's career couldn't ultimately survive because of her own shunning by her beloved conservative Christian community due to her divorce. Still, even as a gay person, I have a touch of sympathy for her. I think she truly believed that we gays were out to recruit her children into our "web of sin" which was not an uncommon belief in that era. Heck, my non-religious Democrat-voting parents said it when I was growing up. She was misguided and misinformed and operating from a place of ignorance and fear; sadly so was most of America back then.

There were plenty of people back then who weren't hateful or even homophobic. There were straight people who supported the gay rights cause. If they could break free of their conditioning then there's no excuse for being homophobic even if you grew up in that era. It's all about having empathy for other people.
