  • This plane, which was once incapable of even taking off from a runway in Arcade, has in Patch 1.55 finally become a potent high-speed energy fighter. In this video I show how to fly it in stock condition in a way that not only makes the grind for modules bearable, but also ingrains good habits that will serve you well when the plane is fully upgraded.

    And a big thumbs up to you Long5hot. With Flip and Yolo as squadmates I'm pretty sure almost everybody would be hard pressed to get any kills at all. And there you were, getting multiple kills. Very well done.

    Great stuff there Longshot! Very inspiring and informative review.
    I can't wait to give it a try and to get this mothballed girl out again.
    Had an air domination the other day in the Canonbusa. After a few minutes my team vanished and I found myself alone vs the enemy team including 5 clan players all teamed up(1 of them ending up with 17 kills)...fresh music video in the pipeline...

    11:30 -- Curious and cool, both at once. There is a problem with what it suggests, which is "cross-controlled inputs". Here's something I shamelessly ripped from a Google search... "Here's your chance to ignore flying in a co-ordinated condition!"
    The key thing of course is the canard design is not the norm, and therefore in this instance what would normally be the case causes a flat spin, and what would normally never be done (because of the threat of a cross-control stall -> Spiral or spin) is what is done, instead. VERY COOL, Long5hot.

    • @jamespfp
      @jamespfp Před 8 lety

      Another way to illustrate this is to use a "normal" airframe design; fly straight and level, and then add rudder input. The airframe will want to roll in the direction of the rudder. Correcting the roll with opposite ailerons should cause a rapid loss in speed, and the more accurate the simulation, the more likely that will also cause one of the wings to stall first, which sets of the spiral/spin. *Using this while slowing down on approach to a runway is dangerous.*

    Wow! Look at that!
    I've been upgrading this plane for few months. Playing one or two matches here and there, but not for a while now.
    Looks like it has really changed enormously in 1.55 and can now turn. When I played it, I felt like it was next to impossible to kill anybody who is aware of you as the maneuverability was really bad.
    This added to the fact that at stock it didn't really climb that well either.
    I think, you hit the nail on the head when you say that this plane needs patience.
    It was very good at teaching that to its' pilot.
    And those low altitude kills you make! I'd never have dared to try anything even remotely close to those.
    I think, I'll hop back to the cockpit. Despite all the challenges, I for some reason liked the plane. And now it seems be quite strong.

      It pleases me to see you make a video on this, 1.55 has really made this thing unstoppable, as it is finally capable of turning.

    cheers longshot. one of my favourite planes this year, i haven't flown it since the new flight model. it's one of the best planes for ps4 players to fly, because it's all about control of the mouse aim and making sure yr flightpaths are smooth. keep it fast at all times, insane high speed retention and handling, cannons that spout hellfire at opponents.

      @user-me2ex4ve4e Před 8 lety

      +long5hot from my experience it seems that only the velocities of the M2/M3 50 cals and 20mm Hispano variants are properly modeled, maybe the MK108 and MK103 but that's questionable

    You seem to be a really skilled AB pilot. I myself am a RB player and if you're insterested in trying out RB id love to show you the ropes :) I think you'd do quite well as the tactics are relatively similar :)

    • @long5hot
      @long5hot  Před 8 lety +1

      +EpicGameShocker Thanks for the offer, I really appreciate it. With RB I'm waiting for the new EC mode to be introduced, as that overcomes the main objection I have to the mode - games decided from the outset based on which team has more FOTM OP planes or on which team climbs & which dives. Both of those things can determine the outcome of the battle and your own chances of success, regardless of your own skill & effort. The time commitment required to play multiple RB games & sometimes come away with not even a single kill ... to me its simply frustrating & not at all enjoyable.

    • @EpicGameShocker
      @EpicGameShocker Před 8 lety

      +long5hot player skill is the most important aspect of RB. Yes, teams that die immediately are insanely frustrating(talking about allied teams) but with a friend I've turned 2v8 situations into a win. I have racked up about 2200 air kills in RB to date and there's barely a match that I don't get a kill in. I'm certain that with a decent mentor you could be an amazing RB player capable of carrying the team. I'd love to squad up with you some day if you decide to give regular RB another go :)

    • @long5hot
      @long5hot  Před 8 lety +1

      +jamespfp In one battle prior to 1.53, I was flying at around 4500m, saw a B17 a bit higher than me around 5km away, and beneath me an F8F starting to climb but still 2.5km down.
      Dived on the F8F for the BnZ kill, then smoothly (you couldn't make sharp turns with 1.53's version of the plane) transitioned into a zoom climb that carried me right up to 500m beneath the B17 whence my cannons shredded it into a million fluttering pieces. Was a thing of beauty - couldn't do it with the stock plane now as the Compressor's stolen just enough of the engine power. Shows what it'll be capable of when spaded though.

    Is this supposed to be a Japanese copy of the Xp-55? Like how are they so similar?

    • @long5hot
      @long5hot  Před 7 lety

      I doubt it was a copy, as the XP-55 never made it past prototype stage - the Japanese would not have been aware of it, and even if they were its doubtful they'd copy a failed prototype.
      Rather I think the canard idea had been around for a while, so both air forces tried to see if they could make it work. Neither were successful (though the Japanese ran out of time to evaluate it properly), it was a concept that'd have to wait for jets & computerized flight stability controls.

    • @long5hot
      @long5hot  Před 8 lety +1

      +Muddy Fudger Heh, aren't they all Spacefires? Which one did you have in mind :)
      In patch 1.53, before this plane could turn, I had a very long duel with a Spit 22 at high altitude (got up past 8500m) in an Air Dom - and my Shinden was stock of course, but still performs extremely well at high alts. Took about 7-8 minutes as we fought for position, then he blinked and decided to BnZ another climbing fighter. I dived at him as he zoom climbed, he saw me coming 3km away & started to turn, but back then the stock Shinden had more engine power and I was on him for the kill before he expected it.

    • @bifutake
      @bifutake Před 8 lety

      +long5hot Similar experience for me last night in AirDom, flying a spaded P-47D-25 against a Spit Mk.2b (probably also spaded). I had a slight altitude advantage so I used a fake head-on maneuver (learned from this channel) in order to maintain my energy and make him bleed his. We ended up climbing from around 5-6 km to over 9 km altitude (where, on paper, the P-47 achieves its top speed) and all the while I was turning slightly to keep him interested and make him pull up sharply toward me. He didn't take the bait and he kept his climb-rate constant. In hind-sight, maybe I should've simply opened up some more distance before starting an attack (due to the P-47 being so unmaneuverable). It finally unfolded in a head-on, which I luckily won, although I sprung an oil-leak (actually, after watching the replay, it seems I wasn't damaged until a later head-on with the same guy, from a similar position).
      As this duel developed, I remembered how my Ki-84-ko loses performance above 7-8 km and was kinda expecting a non-Griffon Spitfire to show a similar characteristic. I guess I was wrong.

    • @GumMagnum
      @GumMagnum Před 8 lety

      long5hot The mk22. Last I fought against it (which must have been back before or during 1.53), it completely outperformed the Ta-152 and Fw-190 D12 in all areas. Couldn't outclimb it, couldn't outrun it (at any altitude), couldn't outdive it, and of course, couldn't outturn it.

    • @long5hot
      @long5hot  Před 8 lety

      +Muddy Fudger I've barely flown mine, but from what I saw flying the J7W1 I didn't have much trouble with Griffon spits in general. Either they went really high & spent the game making timid fake BnZ attacks and achieving nothing, or they furballed down on the deck.
