@@neworld2114 was ruled undetermined and eventually they went with suicide…I think? This is stuff that came to light a bit after the fact. Hell, it might still be open. Haven’t had a look in a good while. Can’t imagine any man being able to stab himself twice in the heart with no hesitation wounds.

@@louieo.blevinsmusic4197 There was a cut on his forearm and one from the webbing to the palm between thumb and forefinger.
The first chest wound was about two inches deep. The second and ultimately fatal wound was approx 5 inches deep.
R.I.P. Elliott. Love.
It's just a pity just how prophetic these lyrics are to his life and death. Such a great artist. Almost too connected to his inner vision.
My favorite song of his and probably his most tragic after you listen to the lyrics. This was his goodbye song.
2:45am is a favourite for me. I actually have so much respect for what you take time to consider reacting to. Elliot smith say yes and between the bars was in the soundtrack for good will hunting and they were my first hook into learning to understand the mastery of Elliot Smith. The disjointed major chords and the utterly soul destroying/ bearing lyrics is just such earnest honest dark humanity.
Songs I didn’t love straight away I grew to understand. But definitely last call is a different vibe.

Never rlly noticed any one instrument making it loud so I went back and listened again. You didn’t mention it until the synths came in but I just think it’s the drums and maybe the higher notes on the synth. The organ notes are pretty low. Basically the drums and the way it’s produced is very “in your face,” as the song is supposed to be. When “Kings Crossing” lyrics start to make complete sense, than you’ve either fucked up at some point in life, are in love with Elliott’s music, or are dead.
Elliott double and triple tracked the drums often. He did it on coast to coast, but I'm uncertain he did it here. The mixer does a great job of building up sound on every instrument by creating a wave of sound while not turning up the volume on everything. Masterfully done!
I've said it elsewhere and will likely say it again, but reactions to artists like Elliott's XO and Figure 8 are virtually nonexistent, as are reactions to brilliant bands like The Shins, Grandaddy, My Morning Jacket, Band of Horses, Deerhunter, Surfer Blood etc. All fantastic bands with potentially life-changing songs.

Was thinking the same thing. Should’ve started off light hearted with Either/Or. haha. Maybe that would’ve been too coffee shop esque so should’ve thrown the best (Xo) at ‘em.

Very much one of the best songwriters/composers of all time. This is not one of my most favorites, but even "lesser" ES songs are good. 💙🎶
