I had a boss who was as racist as you can get. We were hiring and I had conducted some interviews and the boss said to pick the 5 best and bring him the applications. He looked at the applications, threw out the " foreign " names and picked " Steve Dobson " and told me to hire him. Steve was born in Madras , India . LOL

I'm white, my hubbie is trini. we were at a mall with our newborn daughter, who was the epitome of Snow White: hair black as ebony, lips red as blood, and skin white as snow. we met another pair of new parents with their little newborn girl. they were indian and, like our daughter, their baby had a full head of black hair. they had dressed her up in pink and lavender silk with beautiful lace and metallic trim. she looked like a little flower fairy in her little seat. cue mutual admiration and, of course, "what's her name?" i asked. they said shyly "Debbie". I said "oh...." and they asked what my daughter's name is and I had to tell them "saari parvati". as we left, i said to Ganesh "well... that was awkward"

Which means "Mister Mister" he changed his last name to Dow when he was on Ellis Island because he was starting over.
My real birth grandpa didn't speak any English when he came over here but at least had some money. He owned a few hundred acres in what would become the town I was born in. He was retired at about fifty when all his kids were in school.
I don't think we had a state tax back then so that helped.
I used to sled down one of his fields it became a city park. His house was tiny and the outside was slabs of stone. My Uncle tore the place down and built a really nice house
