    With the Escalade large and in charge at Cadillac dealerships, is there room for another three-row SUV in the brand’s lineup? Caddy certainly thinks so. The XT6 is for a different kind of buyer. Trimmer and more car-like than the ‘Slade there’s loads of standard equipment and a lower price. Tom Voelk travels to Washington D.C. to drive both the Premium Luxury and AWD Sport models (and yes there is a difference, it’s not just trim and graphics).
    Cadillac arranged travel and lodging for this video. Opinions are my own.

    I just picked up my 2022 XT6 Premium Luxury last week and I couldn't be happier with it! Terrific looking and functional, great space and comfort, reasonably priced for it's segment, great tech and safety features, plenty of power and a smooth ride! It's my first domestic US car brand purchase in 20 years.

    As always excellent reviews Tom , this car is a mixed bag for me 🤔 I find the escalas design language to be better executed on the ct5 and ct4 , something about it just seems.....off on the xt6 , specifically that hearse looking rear quarter. And the revised xt5 somehow manages to have a nicer interior , despite the xt6's emulation on the xt5 inside.
    Even though the 3.6 is long in the tooth , GM has made updates to it throughout the years to ensure it's not left behind. It may not seem necessary for Cadillac , however it's more than necessary for this vehicle. The 3.0tt would've been too much for this to handle since it's on the same platform as the Acadia.
    Personally , my top pick for the segment is the XC90.

    Great review as always, Tom! I’m not sold on this model. I think the asking price is FAR too high ($70k!?) and it’s gets the same fuel economy as the much larger and more powerful Escalade. If I was in the market for a vehicle like this the price alone is something that would make me stay away. I’d “cross shop” this with the corporate cousin Hyundai Palisade and Kia Telluride, maybe a BMW X5, and other models. While the XT6 is impressive (and I will give it the benefit of the doubt), I’m not thrilled about its already outdated-looking interior. I’m sure many of those plastics will start to squeak after a few family trips to the beach.

    Cadillac REALLY needed to introduce this last year or 2 years ago. With the new Kia on the low Asian side, the Lincoln Aviator on the American end,and the BMW X5 and X7 as well as the Mercedes Benz GLE on the German end, you could throw a rock and hit a choice in this segment that's as good or better. There's almost no reason to look at an XT6 right now.

      My thoughts exactly! Yes there is some distinction in terms of design and engineering with the latest slew of GM SUVs and crossovers, but there's still too much overlap in terms of features and powertrains! Cadillac has exclusive engines and platforms but they chose the easy (cheap) way at entering the lucrative 3-row luxury segment! While the XT6 is a solid SUV, it simply brings nothing to the segment worth giving it a second look!!!

    The only frustrating thing about this car is the powertrain. I don't have a problem with the 3.6, it's probably the best naturally aspirated 6 cylinder left on the market that isn't a Porsche engine...but there should be something a bit...more? Like, whatever happened to the turbo 3.6 from the XTS Vsport? This would be a perfect home for it.
    Other than that, standard equipment seems fine, it's a really handsome design, if not exceptionally eye-catching, and the interior looks nice and well built from this and other videos that I've seen. Well executed, now it just needs a powertrain option with more shove!

    Tom, I love your reviews. But have to quibble with your point about sharing it not sharing an "architecture" with the Traverse. They (including the Buick Enclave, Chevy Blazer and GMC Acadia) are all based off the GM C1XX Epsilon platform. You can debate whether that means anything in this day/age, as VW has shown with MQB you can take a single platform and scale it to tons of different vehicles at different price points. But trying to differentiate an architecture from a platform seems more like marketing speak to me.

    • @normt5463
      @normt5463 Před 5 lety +1

      Even if it could go down the same assembly line the difference in size is allot more than just rebadging it.
      Do you think they took a Traverse/Enclave and just hack sawed the running rails for the shorter Blazer/XT6? The floor pan is different along with the supports for a smaller design to withstand roof load tests.
      The obvious to the eye is the sheet metal of which none is shared. The XT6 will have some sort of adapticlve shock that the Traverse does not have so the susenpsinon geometry will change from the subframe down. The engine bay and supports are probably very similar unless there will be a 400 hp Vsport version. All of the suspension tuning will be different also.
      That goes to the closer Acadia too....

    This is on the C1XX platform, along with the the Enclave, Traverse, XT5, Acadia and Blazer. This thing really is just a sugar coated Acadia (due to the size and seating config). FWD on a high end vehicle is just laughable, and that engine is in no way sufficient for this thing, but its the best they can do for a FWD platform. This thing needed to be designed from the ground up to be more SUV like and be RWD, but no that would make too much sense for GM. Ford made the right call with bringing the Explorer back to RWD and with that the new Aviator. Also the luxuries of this being a 3 row crossover die real quick when you can't get a bench or console in the second row, putting it in a weird spot of "it can only seat one more than a vehicle 20% smaller and has the same powertrain (XT5)". Overall this thing is a waste and the lincoln aviator is going to put this thing in its place. GM needs to either ditch this platform or modify it to take RWD and the new 2.7L turbo or they are gonna lose hard in this CUV market, at all levels.

    Everyone here raving about the Aviator more than likely doesn't own either that or the XT6. I will admit i don't own neither one but i did my research and actually test drove all the comparable offerings well before deciding to go with my audi q7. The Xt6 in the luxury package offers a much better ride than aviator. The Aviator has already had its far share of recalls since launch, none for the XT6 YET. Ford is sending the aviators 270 miles by truck to the Flat Rock Assembly Plant before hitting dealers for post-production troubleshooting due to all the issues they've been having. Theres a laundry list of issues which can be easily googled. The XT6 is selling more units than Aviator month after month. XT6 offers more standard equipment, More third row head and leg room.
