Is This The Caddy You've Been Waiting For? | 2020 Cadillac XT6

- Cadillac shoppers have been demanding a 3-row crossover that’s roomy but easier to park than an Escalade. Is the XT6 that crossover? In a nutshell: yes and no. It’s certainly the Cadillac of GM’s crossover lineup and the interior is well crafted and comfortable, but the premium price tag may be hard for some shoppers to accept.

I just picked up my 2022 XT6 Premium Luxury earlier this week and I absolutely love it! Great value for the money, premium features, smooth ride, good tech and solid fit and finish. Glad to finally buy an American brand again.
No way I'd spend 70k on this when we now have Hyundai/Kia killing it for less then 50k
Comparing a kia to a Cadillac is like comparing a Cadillac to a Bentley, not even close..
@@homelessmillionaire1 unfortunately, the Pallisade and Telluride compete with this Cadillac and with many reviews, have beat them in terms of quality and design. The new Genesis GV80 just got unveiled and is already being compared to a Bentely. That is going straight after Audi, BMW, & Mercedes. We dont live in the same world we once have. Koreans are the new innovators of the automotive industry.
@@homelessmillionaire1 I've driven both I would suggest you do the same if your in the market remember the Caddie is nothing but a GM product don't forget that but I will say this for sure the GV 80 will crush that Caddie people just love paying for names not quality and content
@@chop1234ification thank you my point exactly look I'm glad people don't pay attention to Hyundai/Kia so when I get my new car prices are under all the majors and nobody can compete with a luxury cars having 10 year/100,00 mile warranty that's called belief in your product right there
Cuz you don't have money to buy it. This is luxury . Kia is not, with all that cheap materials . I am not a Cadillac fan, but I will take this over that cheat ass Kia or Hyundai
I like it! Great 3rd row room. And, I agree, that powertrain is really seamless and smooth!
The XT6 is really pretty and practical, but that’s about all it has going for it as far as I’m concerned. Quality doesn’t measure up to the price tag, the 400 badge is less than meaningless, and it’s FWD in a sea of RWD competitors. It doesn’t bring anything new to the game. It’s not off-road capable, it’s not terribly sporty, and it’s not extra comfortable comfortable. It’s very average and average just doesn’t do in today’s world
Jay Mac You aren’t even making sense. It doesn’t compete with RWD competitors. How do you know it isn’t comfortable? Who stated it wasn’t comfortable? Who would want their luxury crossover to be “terribly sporty”?? 😳 Smh.
mybro727 he is proving his points
Actually, all the Japanese offerings in this segment are FWD, including the Acura MDX mentioned in the video. So I'd say that this competes with the Japanese luxury crossovers, not the Germans or Genesis.
@@damilolaakanni it does a pretty poor job if that's what it's trying to do.
The problem with having too many brands is the inability to price this competitively, particularly given the proliferation of once "premium" features downmarket. Even if you were to shop purely within the GM portfolio, there's absolutely no reason to buy one of these over the Enclave Avenir. In typical GM fashion they'll probably lease this out at MDX pricing to get any sort of meaningful volume.
The Avenir in the low $40's is quite a deal.
Very nice looking car. But I still think that you could load up the new Toyota Highlander and get better bang for buck with basically same features.
@Raschaud Farmer bafoons confuse segments as this would compete with RXL but the RX doesn't have adult size 3rd row.
hands down. Best auto review. I always watch your video thoroughly before considering any vehicle. The depth you cover is unmatchable.
I think you are being far too kind to this car. It's a warmed-over GMC being rushed to fill a hole in Cadillac's lineup. The front seats are far below the competition in adjustability, there's only basic adaptive cruise-control rather than SuperCruise, the gauge cluster and engine are from the Chevrolet parts bin, and the cargo room is sub-standard. I would buy a Telluride in heartbeat before buying this car, to say nothing of the more premium brands. We actually owned a 2004 SRX and even that car was less premium than it could have been, but it was unique in terms of capabilities and dimensions at the time. There's far superior competition now.

Agree with you man - he was too generous.
That engine is fairly generic, and the torque peak looks to be quite high, at 5000 rpm for a V-6 of that size.
@@digitaldoc100 The XT6 handles as well as the MDX in Motor Trend testing. Has similar 1/4 mph total speed which is really good considering you can actually sits adults in the 3rd row of the XT6 and it has 10 more cu ft of cargo space as it is a bigger vehicle!
Time Fly Which Chevrolet has this gauges cluster? You say the powertrain is from a Chevrolet parts bin as if Lincoln, Genesis, Lexus, Acura, and Infiniti don’t share Powertrains with their standard brands. Super Cruise will be available later this year on the XT6. I don’t think he was being “too kind” i think he was being logical while you folks are being delusional and making shit up. 🤷🏾♂️
Wow Alex. This SUV is amazing! The XT6 is totally worth the price.
😂😂
Is it just me or is every vehicle by GM overpriced by 10-20k?
Oh I'd say this is overpriced by about $40k given the lack build quality and all those plastics
All cars are overpriced by at least 10k
I'd say that GM overprices all of their SUVs to some extent. If they get it, then happy day. But most folks will do their homework and get the best deal they can. Even then they'll make a few bucks.
Hell yeah way overpriced that interior doesn't look 75k
That's so they can give you "GM employee pricing" which means they actually use a little Lube when they bend you over
Cadillacs are supposed to have full sized seats. For a Cadillac to have a seat bottom with a short ledge is completely counter to what a Cadillac should be no matter the characteristics the company might be targeting.
In person the Aviator is very beautiful and though I love Cadillacs I’d say that its real presence takes up a place in a driveway more regally than the Xt6. Lincoln’s seats are most likely going to become hallmarks for the brand and expected in all of Lincoln’s vehicles eventually in contrast.
I have a feeling that Ford is waiting to send Alex an Aviator until they’re confident that they’re sending a product produced after they correct some known production problems with their new plant. I have a feeling that there will be a software update for the transmission and then they’ll send Alex an Aviator to review.
Hope that goads Lincoln into sending you one soon.
Good luck Alex
All new 2021 Genesis GV-80 blows it away for less $$$$$$
I'd argue the Hyundai Pallisade and Kia Telluride blows the XT6 out of the water. GV80 is truly in another class about with Mercedes and BMW. Rwd based platform is never the same as the fwd Traverse platform.
True...

It was a 2020 and we were at the end of January 2021. Demo model, so there were about 3,300 miles on it. Had to be okay with the color combination (silver exterior, black interior). Watched their price creep down, then moved in when the timing felt right. The $1,500 Costco rebate was the cherry on top.
Could’ve had that or the outgoing Acura MDX with Tech package for the same price. Picked the Caddy for three reasons:
1) Acura demands premium gas, Caddy doesn’t.
2) Everyone here seems to have that MDX, and I wanted to be different.
3) I can rest my elbow on the door with my hand on the wheel in the Caddy, but not the Acura. Minor, but I like to be comfortable.
Alex did you this vehicle is 75k man the prices of new cars are too dam high
It's really funny to see a lot of reviewers and normal peoples compare the XT6 with the KIA Telluride and Hyundai Palisade.

The Volvo XC90 is still ahead overall. The pricing, style, and efficiency is just better. This coming from an XC90 owner.... I know I know, biased.
Thach Ho the XC90 is above this definitely. Gorgeous SUV.
Thach Ho Not in reliability nor driving characteristics.
Exterior looks great, but the interior is a huge disappointment.
Interior is straight garbage. All that reflective plastic on the dash for a luxury vehicle? The weird short bottom front seat cuchions? I mean, wow..
What a bad comment. The XT6's interior is really impressive.
400 newton meters? Americans can't even convert C to F...lol
EXACTLY, American here, can confirm. 🤣😞

Many places selling the Premium level of this for less than 49K (>5K off). Caddy is feeling the pricing pressure from Kia/Hyundai.
The H/K twins are minvans!
@@normt5463 LOL, NO.
@@normt5463 Lol we have a Telluride, and its a fantastic SUV. We had a '98 Oldsmobile Silhouette and '06 Buick Terraza in the past, actual minivans, and I'll tell you that the Telluride absolutely outdrives and outclasses those cars (as it should being brand new). Minivans are on the decline like sedans, and all large crossovers are essentially replacing them. So I see all large SUVs as the "new minivans". I actually like minivans however, haha.
Absurd price for a vehicle that offers nothing more than significantly less expensive ( and probably more reliable) competition. So many options out there for $20-25k less with better features, better mileage and more reliability. Another GM loser.

Fish line works. Add a little heat from a hair dryer to loosen it up.
@Antonio Zamudio I really want to know how you've come up with that assumption. Seriously, I really want to know
The XT5 and XT6 are almost the same size (considering they are on the same platform). The XT6 is slightly longer with a more upright rear end to accommodate the third row. That 400 badging is for GM's primary market... China. In China, big displacement and high cylinder count is socially frowned upon, so instead they advertise torque in the units China uses. This way whether its a 2.0 turbo inline 4 or a 3.6 v6, people don't get shamed for having a bigger engine. This is also why volvo's top engine is a turbocharged, supercharged inline 4 with a plug in hybrid. They refuse to make a bigger engine since volvo is now Chinese. On the note of that engine, it needs to go, period. The 3.6 was never a good engine, its revs are way too high and its power is way too late in the band. They need to hurry up and switch over to the 2.7 inline 4 and make a 3.9 inline 6 based on the same platform and ditch the v6 and even the 6.2 v8. Also the V6 in the traverse and enclave is a modified version from the main one. It has larger valves, which get it less fuel efficiency, but much more lower end torque. The XT6 is also on the shorter wheelbase for the C1XX platform, vs the traverse and enclave, which are on the long wheel base. This give those two room for the extra third row seat, while this shares many dimensions with the acadia The midsize pickups also have their own version, but I can't remember what is different about it.
This platform is not suited for luxury vehicle use, the drivetrain is blah, fwd is blah, the interior is blah. It works great for a 30,000 dollar traverse, not so much for a 75,000 dollar XT6. They need to take the CT6 platform and turn it into a CUV. Give us some rear wheel drive, a 2.7 turbo or a V8, that fine finish the CT6 has ect. The XT5 and XT4 need the same upgrade to their respective RWD car platforms since like you said, most CUV's are lifted wagons with higher rooflines.
The XT6 handles as well as the MDX in Motor Trend testing. Has similar 1/4 mph total speed which is really good considering you can actually sits adults in the 3rd row of the XT6 and it has 10 more cu ft of cargo space as it is a bigger vehicle.
@@normt5463 the xt6 is a longer wheelbase xt5 with a third row, so it wont be *bad* in any test but it wont chart top anything.
The fly in the ointment 😂. ❤️ priceless Alex.
Why? Do people not say that anymore?
Love your objective non biased reviews. Redline Reviews can learn a lot from you. This vehicle seems to be positioned to give the Escalade room to breathe. The Aviator makes you wonder if the standard wheelbase Navigator is worth the money. The Aviator is a formidable competitor to all the vehicles in this class, not just the XT6. Overall, the XT6 seems to be best at the base price and equipment level. Comparably equipped competitors cost the same or more.

New? No way, used? Oh yea. Love this car, I got my SRX for $18,000 used, I know I won’t get this for that cheap lol, but for $30,000 with like 50K Miles on it, I am *so* there.
They really need to improve their front seats, compared to the competition. Although a pretty good engine, Cadillac needs to offer at least 1 alternative with more power.
Try Kia and Hundia if Cadillac name meant nothing to you.
I had enough with the Cadillac brands by the time I paid it off they got oils leaked and died too it’s the truth I love Cadillac before but now no thanks Cadillac .
Modern cars don't leak, dude!
The Lincoln Aviator has more horsepower, thanks to its twin turbo engine, and gets better gas mileage and it looks better
With the reliability and overall quality of a mid-2000s Range Rover
This engine in a bigger Enclave will see close to 30 mpg highway. Lincoln won't see that unless hybrid.
Motor Trend has the quarter mile times closer than you think!
Ill wait for the genesis gv80
Exterior looks good. I dig it. Looks way better in person..especially with the sport taillights. However, I don't like the interior. I don't like it on the wonky looking xt5 and I don't like it carried over on the xt6. It already looks dated to me. Wished they would have taken a bigger styling risk with the interior.
Good bye GM Cadillac, hello Genesis GV80!
Please review the new ct5!
Alex, I agree with you. While I like the Cadillac XT-6, both the interior and exterior, this car shouldn’t be coming in at over 60,000
I'm amazed at how hard it has been to find a legitimate comparison test between the xt6 and the aviator!!! I'm wondering why?
All the suvs pricing is getting ridiculous. They can go up to a mortgage payment whether it’s starting msrp is around 80,000 and go up to 100,000. I wanted a suv at first but considering on luxury sedan cheaper and trunk space great as well . Thanks for doing a detailed review with comparison chart . I love your detailed reviews ..
Lincoln is kicking Caddy's ass in every new SUV they release
The Escalade will be big time, but Caddy is in trouble
This is not on the Aviator's level. The new CT5 sucks too!
It's gonna be a long 5-7 year sales draught for Cadillac
Lincoln pulled a full on uno reverse card on Cadillac
Lincoln is not selling sedans in the near future. Cadillac win!
Have you seen the recalls and quality control issues on new Explorer/Lincoln?
No mention of the new Genesis GV80?!
No dealerships to support it..
My 2013 Chevy Impala has the same 3.6L V-6 engine as this Cadillac, the Cadillac cost $75,000 with only 10 extra horsepower and I paid a little more than $7,000 for my Chevy, not a good look GM.
Bennie Mangle Jr. that’s what every GM crossover is, a massively overweight sedan with a larger body. That’s why their reliability is atrocious.
I’d take the following:
1. 2020 Highlander hybrid platinum
2. Durango SRT

LOL, I never watched the video, just came here to answer the question in the title, and skewer Cadillac, having owned 2, and over a dozen other GM shitboxes, including a GMC truck currently, that is the worst POS I have ever owned, bar none.
GM really needs to overhaul its tech. I shouldn't have had to reformat SD card for 360 camera and USB drive for media to FAT32, which Windows 10 doesn't do by itself. I had to download other software just to reformat in a compatible filing system.
Um, no
Reminds me of the Mercedes R-class body proportions. Beautiful exterior, but engine and outdated interior doesn’t match look. Transverses have a bad rep for transmission problems near the 20k miles.
The 9-speed is used on Traverse and Enclave and was rough shifting going through clutch pack break-in period.
Today Enclave is ranked No.1 in segment according to Consumer Reports.
To answer your question, I haven't been waiting for a Caddy. Don't make me laugh.
Great video
Enjoyed the last iteration of the "Art and Science" Caddy designs. All these new ones look so bland and more economy.
My Jeep Renegade has 4-way lumbar...
So does my 2018 Compass. I believe all FCA cars that have power seats have 4-way lumbar at least on the driver's seat (co-worker who used to be in Product Planning at FCA tipped me off to this).
I'm trying to pay attention to the car review, but your pants are tighter than the 3rd row of the 2020 Highlander.
Eeeeek!
Who pays full price for a GM product? Between my 2016 Silverado 1500 LTZ and my 2019 Silverado 1500 LTZ I saved over $25K over the factory sticker price for the two.
Not a Fan at all here. Same engine for how long and used in my Chevy Impala, a Traverse Etc. Cadillac use to have it’s own engines. The Interior is not to my eye attractive at all and the placement of the lane Keep button is rediculous. Who thought that was a wonderful idea? I am trying to see the quality here and I just don’t see it. Palisade looks richer.
This Cadillac and GMC 3.6l is different than the others.
Why does this remind me of a ......................station wagon. The Chevy and Buick versions of this make a lot more sense unless you just gotta have that Cadillac badge. The carbon fiber stuff in the interior is not upscale, just the latest gimmick. Another good thorough Alex review. 👍
Wow I gave this video 12 minutes, and don't want this POS. Now normally I am not that strong but the Volvo XC90 is light years ahead of this car. This is sad. Cadillac shows the cheapening GM is famous for. To some extent Ford is the same way. They just hide it better. I have no desire whatsoever to even think of this vehicle. The competition smokes it. Standard of the World can't even get out of it's own backyard. Shame on Cadillac and GM for another total Schiit wagon! Love your videos Alex as they are always complete and comprehensive.
This outsells Aviator....
After seeing the interior design of the new Escalade this thing looks so ancient.
General Motors still thinks it is the 1960s where they can make mediocre stuff and charge a high price for it. The number of people left who will buy that, literally and figuratively, shrinks by the day. And now the Koreans are coming.
100% The execs at GM must be living breathing dinosaurs.

I'm serious guys, I'm gonna buy a bicycle.
The Nm number at the rear end is rather telling where Cadillac's main market really lies - in a market where torque is measured in Nm & that isn't in Europe (hint starts with a C ends in an A).
That number 400 is a wonderful example of GM nonsense. They pulled this number out of the same place where they sit. It's a number that Americans would not use. But none of the other numbers seemed adequate I suppose.
No way I'm paying $74k for one of these. Around here you can find a Premium Luxury for just under $54k. As far as some comparisons he made I simply don't like the looks of the MDX or the Audi. I had a terrible experience with Volvo years ago so would not consider that. Personally like the xt6 but we're all different.
I agree. I would rather have a Toyota Highlander Hybrid Platinum for a LOT less money.
AND a LOT better gas mileage.
Not to forget the reliability you get from a Toyota.
But I will say I always liked Cadillac's Styling.
One word for the xt6...... "Basic"
XT6 is just a boxier 3 row XT5.

Nice I like it 👌👍
Clearly this Cadillac was not meant to be bought by North Americaners or they wouldn't have put that 400Nm (Newton-meters) script in the back.
For this car to be worth the price, it needs to come with the upper trim level of the interior package on the brand new 2021 Escalade, all decked out with curved OLED screens. Otherwise, noth even worth being on my shopping list unless there is $20k on the hood!
Is this better than the drango rt?
Weeeellll....
Come on GM a 3.6 is a weak motor for a Cadillac it needs 3.0 twin turbo or a turbo charged 3.6 you have these engines if ford can have 400 horsepower in a explorer why can t you an cheaper to buy ???
Why didn't Cadillac put the 3.0t engine from the CT6 in this? This seems more of a competitor to a mdx or rx than a XC90. The interior doesn't look that much different from an Envinsion/Enclave. I'm sure it drives nice but is this $25000 nicer than a Telluride/Pallisade/CX9?

Maybe I’m in the minority but I didn’t like the 9-speed in an Acadia Denali I recently drove that much. It wasn’t as smooth as my the 10-speed in the Camaro I drive. Also the first gear is way to aggressive. I don’t understand why I can’t start in second gear. Honda vehicle allow you to start in second gear.
Same with my Camaro don’t know why they won’t allow me to start in 2nd gear. Also unlike my Camaro which can go into V4 mode at 90-100mph sometimes, the highest speed the Acadia would manage with V4 was around 50mph I think with the car loaded. I never saw it turn on above 70 for sure. Seems kinda useless tbh.
Oooooh Lord that interior is terrible
5 or 6k off? I'd be shocked if you can't put a 1 in front of those during sale periods. Caddy never intends to get remotely close to MSRP.

Even if it could go down the same assembly line the difference in size is allot more than just rebadging it.
Do you think they took a Traverse/Enclave and just hack sawed the running rails for the shorter Blazer/XT6? The floor pan is different along with the supports for a smaller design to withstand roof load tests.
The obvious to the eye is the sheet metal of which none is shared. The XT6 will have some sort of adapticlve shock that the Traverse does not have so the susenpsinon geometry will change from the subframe down. The engine bay and supports are probably very similar unless there will be a 400 hp Vsport version. All of the suspension tuning will be different also.

What's the point??
@@1989rs500 You are wrong.
"...2018 J.D. Power study, conducted more like the one cited in the commercial (for instance, reflecting three years of service), ranked Chevrolet high in dependability. Not #1, but near the top of the industry and ahead of the Honda, Toyota, and Ford brands." Car & Driver
Cadillac has completely lost the plot. This isn't any nicer than the Buick Enclave which it shares platforms with. Those short seat bottoms are incredibly stupid- people are averaging taller and most other manufacturers seem to understand that.
Honestly, I'd consider the Telluride over this.
Well, even if Acura MDX's transmission would not be herky-jerky ZF transmission, which you said many times is the best transmission in the whole world, you would have found something bad to say about MDX, anyway, because it is an Acura.
If you review our catalogue, you’ll find I’ve never, ever said the ZF 9 speed is the best in the world. The ZF 6 speed and 8 speed RWD transmissions are world class but The best transaxles out there now are Honda’s 10 speed, GM’s 9 speed and Aisin’s 8 speed. In addition we often praise the RDX and have named it best in segment several times.
@@AAutoBuyersGuide _ I see you were specific about the which ZF transmission is the best. OK! My mistake then ZF is not making the best transmissions in the market but some of them are the best. Got it.
However, you more than often claim that Acura products, TLX, RLX, MDX, ILX are below par and they handle poorly even against well known bad handling cars which are not even direct competition with them.
whew this is 15k overpriced lol
$15k will be a bargain for these 2020's in a few years because more horsepower is on it's way, I'll wait for the bargain or a brand new Badass.
You just lost 15K gray cells after making this comment.
I think they do it on purpose to bake in the discounts they offer
