yeah i don't think they would wanna be doing that when their main focus for the home applet was for it to run as smooth as possible while being as efficient as possible, besides we are in like the last stages of the switch's life

You seen the switch online app struggle? The thing crashes if you try to load more than 5 pngs half the time
@@bonedude1286 it's not really about any sort of performance hit, the home screen is designed with the philosophy of being minimalistic so that you can get to your games faster, there is a reason why the game icons are so big and the first thing selected when you turn on the switch, something being efficient at it's task always doesn't refer to performance itself but it's functionality. i wasn't stating that fact as my own opinion of why they wouldn't do it rather as to how the thing was designed in the first place

Because that requires more coding requiring every individual possible iteration of sleep time up to a threshold. This is easier.

@@DarkMirria1 No. that is a typical limit of any modern smartphone as well. There are many limits on modern smartphones, or any other ARM-powered devices. There are many settings you simply cannot do on a modern smartphones, compared to an e.g. laptop or smartphone.
I even learned how this is programmed and why ARM-devices typically don´t have it.
Since you need to dynamically link this.
And ARM simply doesn´t have enough power to allow dynamically linking many drivers.
So you are stuck with static linking. and Static linking typically eats lots of Ram.

You seem to forget, usually these updates are secretly intended to fight piracy/modding. So who knows what exactly changed

Ngl why don't they just get rid of the "Themes" tab and make it a setting to either have it Light Mode or Dark Mode on. There, issue solved.
Yeah they really fucked things up by calling it "Themes" from the start.
If they actually added them in later they could have easily changed the menu then.

still wished they had a "power off" option from the controller. all you can do is sleep mode.
if you want to hard shut down you have to hold down the tiny power button on the console itself.
or a way to leave the switch turned off from the dock/charger, it gets annoying sometimes

Nintendo will never realise just how the little things in your switch matter as a whole. Firmware updates that add Quality of Life additions to your console, such as enabling users to use USB 3.0 (5 gbps) would let us download and upload data even quicker, than just the theoretical max speed of 480mbps. It would also let us use external drives like an HDD or SSD to store more games, and load them faster on TV mode.
(EDIT: I was misinformed. The dock's ports are USB 3.0, AND the Switch supplies enough data through the USB-C port to connect USB 3.0 drives, sorry! But still, we have to wait until the "Switch Attach" (supposedly the successor's name) if we want that, we're too late into the lifecycle)

USB 3.0 is not only a software thing, but also a hardware thing.
Sure, the software could get support, but without hardware support, how do we use that?

@@SamueltheTechnoKid2011 The Switch or Switch Oled has a USB 3.0 on the dock but the Switch doesn't actually use it as any different than the other USBs that it has.
I checked. It's the USB inside the dock (near the HDMI and power chord slot) is a USB 3.0

@kass3333 They can't be compared. One is 48 new tracks for the best-selling Switch game, and the other is slightly different colors for a menu you'll spend a total of a minute on before you load a game.

You people love to complain about anything. Adding themes to the home menu, which you usually spend a total of one minute on, is just a waste of time and system storage. Why not request something that would actually improve the user experience, like decreasing the lag on the eShop and Nintendo Switch Online tabs?

You'd think at this point after so many years they would do something big like make the menu not so plain and give us themes and music.
The 15 minute timer for sleep mode when playing on an external display is great for those who play on CRT, OLED, or plasma displays!! (I left the setting set at 1 hour as my TVs just have IPS or VA displays)

I think I am experiencing better loading times on both Pokémon and MH Rise! Just a few seconds faster. MH Rise seems to load 3-4 seconds quicker, while I didn't really gauge Pokémon before since it was already quick.
This is one feature I was wanting for quite a long time. And I primarily play my Switch docked and I didn't like waiting 1 hour before my Switch goes into Sleep mode - When it auto-sleeps at 1, 3, 5, 10, or 30 minutes while not docked.
When we getting new or custom themes?

7 years later, no themes
When I updated to v18, pop up notification said my memory card corrupted, need to delete all data inside it. And I need to redownload all my digital games (Dragon Dogma, Hogwarts Legacy, BOTW, MK11, Final Fantasy 12, Fortnite etc)
My micro sd card doesn't read at all anymore after this update. I swapped in my old one, and it works perfectly fine. I wonder what the update did to my micro sd card?
@@ultraELLAZAR just follow instruction, system will recalibration your sd card and delete all the data likes in my case. After that just redownload again in same sd card
Guess they need to take a look on error when playing games.. maybe Nintendo themselves or Motorsport Games since I'd faced this issue on NASCAR Rival.
Wii Shop Channel and both eShops ran much much better how how the Switch eShop does today
More themes or custom themes you can use from the app would of been nice.....

It’s a Switch game.
It's a game inspired by the Castlevania classics on the NES and it's pretty good ! It's been out on Steam since 2020 and it came yesterday or so on Switch. It's also pretty cheap so you can consider buying it with some gold points if you can.

I don't like these updates no matter what they are. All they do is force me to turn off my games when I don't want to. Can I ask what they are to begin with?
Mostly to combat modders & I think homebrew stuff as well as add more bad words to their ban list.
Nothing. That's why when you play, it's the same and your gameplay didn't improve at all. Still the same input lag and system error you're going to deal with in the middle of a high fps game. System still barely reaches 20 fps for their first party games.
Remember when X.0.0 updates actually had cool content

WiiU can handl ths now (similar to 3DS). Switch cannot. Insufficient Ram because you can´t even use 1 Gbyte of Swich´s Ram for themes/OS.

If there was a Switch 2 coming this year, they would've announced it by now. But they haven't.
@@SaltyToad00Eh, maybe. Since I think they already had their earnings call take place and didn’t announce (verbally) anything there. But maybe not. Switch wasn’t revealed until like September and launched a few months later. So a quick turn around between reveal and release. Difference there is the “NX” was announced in development like a year and a half before, so they already acknowledged it was coming. But we don’t know if they would’ve mentioned it in an earnings call before a reveal or not under normal circumstances. They did it so early then to give investors and customers hope for a new, better, more successful thing.
First, you said “to”. Second, we have already a game that is a huge deal: TTYD. Thousand Year Door is a truly amazing game and the fact it’s getting a remake is a huge deal. I will ask of Nintendo if they DO make a new console, they better have backwards compatibility like the GameCube to the Wii and the Wii to the Wii U.

Switch cannot handle the E-shop music. It was shut-off for a good reason. What do you think would happen to an allready stuttering mess you call eshop when you add music-calculations to it? Magic?
WiiU can handle it. 3DS can handle i (since 3DS uses a special soundchip for running it). Switch cannot.

I don't know why you guys are expecting anything major from these updates. If Nintendo wanted to add themes, they would've done it a long time ago.
I don’t think they’ll add themes at this point, but I don’t think “it’s been X years” means it’s entirely impossible either. Reminder that the Switch didn’t even have Bluetooth headphone support until _4 years in._ You’d think that’d be a basic feature since the console has Bluetooth support, and for 4-8 devices (depending if you use joycons or not). Seems like a basic feature especially for a modern mobile device. Heck year 1 would’ve still been fine. But people thought up to that point they wouldn’t bother. People bought products just to find a way to around it.
@@mrshmuga9 Fair point. It took the 3DS a while to get themes, so I guess Switch themes aren't completely out of the question, just highly unlikely.
@@SaltyToad003DS got themes for a reason: It has a custom sound-chip. Which allows running music at all times!
For this reason 3DS is a perfect MP3-player as well. Can easily last you 10 hours with a single battery-charge.
Give us more themes already at least different colors.
