Years ago, my first ever kayak cost me about 300 dollars. It was a toy by most standards. Even a small, nimble fellow like myself couldn't stand up on it. But with a lot of diy shenanigans, I eventually turned it into a nice fishing machine and it got me out on the water. Since then, I have worked with Pelican kayaks and helped them turn out some real nice, economical fishing machines that are ready for action right out of the factory. No diy'ing needed. Their philosophy of well made, entry level kayaks that won't break the bank has made them the world leader in small, plastic boats. And the fact that they let me in on the design process, makes me feel like I'm six foot five and 250 pounds! It's a good feeling for someone 5'5" one forty. It's why I mean it when I say, 'Thanks to my friends at Pelican'. And it's why I like to spread their word to get even more people to put a paddle in their hands. Or in some cases, a small electric trolling motor :^)
As for getting the Mode; supply issues have plagued the entire world. I know of at least one plastic boat company that has gone under because things like polyethylene can't be found. That and other challenges have delayed the availability of the Catch Mode. I'm waiting to release a promo code for the sales of that kayak, just like the current accessory promo code, but due to the difficulty in getting parts, I was told the only way to ensure that you get one as soon as possible is to get on a list that notifies you when they are ready for sale. It is supposed to already be somewhere on the Pelican website. As soon as I have more info on that, I will change this description and post the findings on my Facebook account. - Sport

Marty, I just wanted to thank you for all the effort and creativity that is shared through your videos. I started watching you when you had the red 8’ kayak. Those videos inspired me to buy a Pelican Rally 80x (8’4” I think). It’s an eyesore blue & orange and I get lots of odd looks from other kayakers and boaters. Fortunately, the fish don’t care how silly I may look in such a tiny kayak. The best part is I can carry it with one hand AND I can fit the entire thing and INSIDE a Toyota Corolla. I call it my Clown Car Kayak😂. It looks like my car’s giving birth at the launch but within 2 minutes, Im underway. 33 mpg car, 34 lb kayak, quick deployment… hard to beat that combo.

Marty appreciate all you do..thanks to you I got into kayaking with my pelican kayak..fishing being my passion..I enjoy fishing from the kayak..also have a pelican bass raider 10E and a lil over a year ago I bought a Tracker Panfish 16 also to fish..but also to load up kayaks and go spring hunting. Appreciate you sharing the real Florida to the masses. Oh before I forget..love to see you go wild on a bass raider and trick one out.
Gotta have my motor. I purchased the 2023' new J2 Bixpy PP 768. Can't wait to set her up on my kayak. I Love purchasing new toys for the boat. Once a year, she gets treated. But glad I do have my fin drive, and I do paddle around my spots. I don't want to rely on just the motor. The new Bixpy with the bigger battery will run at approx 4.5 mph, for over 2 hrs straight. But speeds 8 to 9 the battery will last more than 24 hrs, if and when I do my camp and fishing trips. Epic sport, and today's kayaks are truly one man fishing machines. And everyone has their own setup. 🎣 🙏 🌊 🐟

When I had my kayak, I was quite content paddling. Then when I got me a pedal kayak, you could not pay me enough to paddle. Then I got a trolling motor. I don't even....
I clocked like a 1,000 miles on R3 and Minn Kota 30. It changes you in ways you never knew possible. It just fixes the stuff that makes kayaking less enjoyable when not going down the river with a vehicle to pick you up. I can zoom about 11 miles using trolling motor and come back to the dock 70% power left in battery and full of energy to do other things.
Kayaking is the way of life, that's for sure.

Thanks Marty, your videos are second to none of how to make use of Pelican products. I have been watching your channel now for several years now. I'm glad Pelican came up with this idea on their new kayak product. Wish they would do a catch 130 build like this model. That would be the bomb. A craft large enough and absolutely stable for persons with disabilities and would be better choice on larger lakes. Here I have Lake Sam Rayburn and Toledo Bend which are huge lakes that get extremely rough when the winds are strong from a direction just right to be wrong. Protected coves are best, but you have to power through to get there. For my use the bass raider is probably the best choice for me. The bass raider is probably one the most stable of any Pelican product. Enjoyed the video. 73 and GOD bless, Earnest K5EWM.
Thanks for the ideas. I built a prototype transom for my catch 130, it's welded using mild steel, and now it is rusted. I like that you can get the pelican transom, I might get that and fit it onto my catch 130

You should definitely do more with this kayak. I’m in south texas and we have a lot of shallow marshes. This would be a great kayak for that to stand on the seat platform and site fish.
I have a 130 pelican. I put a 30lb thrust trolling motor in the center where my petal drive is. Works very good. Been watching you forever a while

Love the accessories option from Pelican. I just purchased a Catch 100 used and saw Marty's video. I tried to use the Marty_20 code when purchasing a rudder, rudder lever and the foam padding for your feet and the website said none of my accessories qualified for that discount. :(

Man this looks like the perfect kayak for me since watching your video I think I'm about to buy one. Just worried about one thing I've heard the pelican plastic is thin and flexible and cheap feeling but I've owned one before and it felt good to me so I think I'm just gonna get it anyways .thanks for the video !

A fun thing you could feature would be a bow fishing set up. Mullet are a great target for that type of thing and they're good eats if you haven't ever had one. I like them smoked.
I have watched your videos for years, so thank you for taking the time to keep feeding us great content and photography. I have a favor to ask. Is there any chance you could talk Pelican into getting you a Pelican Covert 120 for testing and a review? It is sold only by Tractor Supply, and I wondered how it compared to the CATCH CLASSIC 120 fishing kayak. It could be very close, but maybe it is way short of the CATCH CLASSIC 120 fishing kayak. I trust your knowledge and I am looking to see if it is as good of a basic platform for beginners and can it grow with mods into a nice river/lake fishing kayak. Thank you so much for your time and hopefully (Hint, Hint Pelican) for your review.

Nice one Marty! I've been thinking about a Pelican or Old Town Kayak for a couple of years, but the problem here in the UK is the prices. Kayaks here (when you can find a quality USA one) are about 80% more expensive than they are in the USA. In one instance, a UK seller was charging near twice as much for an old model as the new one that was being promoted on CZcams. Puts me off buying. Stay safe & well. 👍👍

I think they do the same thing here in Ohio .. they could have changed the rule tho ..

Pennsylvania requires registration and numbers.
And in Puerto Rico the same , registration and numbers on the Kayak. Bought the Newport 36 pound of trust for my little kayak..
Yup, necessary in Florida. Once upon a time, just having an electric trolling motor didn't require registration in Florida, but that ended as population and number of vessels grew....

That’s nice to have a motor and definitely the way I would setup mine the only thing Is I feel that a trolling motor on a kayak should be mounted on the side 🤙. I would personally put a 2x6 with 2 plastic pipe that would fit in the rod holder on the back that would be way less awkward to steer wouldn’t it ?? I wish manufacturers would think about this stuff and have a solution ready to go from the factory 😩.

What about for the roundabout trolling motor what else that you have to have with you
Really need a remote to steer the boat. I am not as limber as most and twisting and contorting to steer the vessel is a pain. There needs to be more options when it comes to steering across the board with all "trolling" motors. I hesitate to call them trolling motors as many of us rely on them to propel us in the water even when we are NOT trolling.

One more question Marty. When your trolling motor is mounted on the transom on the Catch 110, how do you reach the release lever to raise and lower your motor. On the surface it seems too long a reach which is why people are counting them on the side. All knowledge appreciated.
Will this seat fit my The Catch 110HDII? I've made mods to sit higher but it still shifts around a little after time.
Just came across your channel. Recently bought a used trident 11 and have never stepped into a kayak of any kind . I have boated and used canoes before. It has no upgrades completely stock. Looking to see what is possible with this type of kayak. Used to fish a lot when I was younger with a really good friend who passed away 3 years ago. I stopped going fishing . Trying to plan how to set this kayak up.
