  • On today’s episode of Fishing Is Therapy we review and perform a stability test on the granite colored Pelican Catch Mode 110 Fishing Kayak. Can we flip it? I think this kayak has the best stability, overall build quality and fishability than any other kayak in its price range.

    I have the catch 100 but I’m thinking about a) selling mine and getting the 110 or 120.
    Or b) build my own/buy outriggers to stabilize the yak
    By chance have you ever owned the 100? Or know someone who’s owned the 100

    • @fishingistherapy
      @fishingistherapy  Před 17 dny +1

      I have not owned a 100, but have seen and got feedback from guys on the water sbout it, they have stability issues and tracking issues. I initially planned to get a 100 but after looking into the 110 and the upgrades for ghe money it was a no brainer. Now i have gotten good feedback once stabilizers and after market skeg were added, but I didnt want to do that as it coukd hurt the resale value with all the holes in yak that would be needed. I would say if you have the extra money go for the 110, if your a good diy guy and have the tools necessary then it could make sense for the 100.

  • @cannibalholiday
    @cannibalholiday Před 3 měsíci +3

    Everything keeps bringing me back to the 110. I thought about a pedal drive so I could split the work between my shoulders and legs (joint issues) but the places I'd be fishing or exploring would be shallow or extremely weedy. The only sit-in kayak that I could find that could accommodate me and my dog with a bit of modding is the Argo XR Angler, and I can't find anyone who sells that. The 110 definitely seems worth the money though, at only $1065 Canadian.

    • @fishingistherapy
      @fishingistherapy  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Yeah, I would agree that it is worth the money. I though of getting a pedal drive as well, but I kayak in rocky conditions and weedy areas as well and didnt want to worry about damages. I wanted the extra leg space and a area to put my bait bucket and this kayak is the best out there for stability, price, modifications and weight. I think you can't go wrong, or you could try the pelican catch 110 hydrive that has a pedal if you really need it.

    • @Dilborg
      @Dilborg Před 2 dny +2

      I've heard the pedal drives tend to break and leak easily and are a serious PITA in low waters.
      I bought my Catch 110 and had all three of my dogs on there with me for a tip test. That's, a Yellow Lab (65lbs), a Golden Retriever (85lbs), an Aussie (40lbs) and me the French Mongrel (200lbs) and we did the "tip test" too. All it took was a couple of Canada geese to land next to us and all three leaned right. Managed to hold steady just me leaning left when the Goldie jumped off and that's what tipped us!
      One thing I have since added over the bottom kydex sheeting (thanks FisherTherapy) is a rubber strap going handle to handle over the bottom (plain bungee could do but might have more drag) so I can flip it back over if it ever happens in open water.
      I didn't try the unflip super hard because I was doing all this close to shore but I could not unflip the kayak.
      I couldn't get a solid grip from the middle to heave it up and trying to push the closest side middle down . . . well the geese just laughed at me.
      In all honesty that was the first time I'd ever taken any of them on a boat and they've since settled down.
      Note that with three dogs (lab in the back, two in the front) I still had room between my legs for two geese carcasses. I wouldn't ever dare go fishing with three retrievers.

    • @fishingistherapy
      @fishingistherapy  Před 2 dny

      🤣Thoae geese had good entertainment. But your right thats alot of weight with all your dogs and the kayak seems to have held it well.
      I like the strap underneath idea. Its a wide yak and to have to reach across it can be challenging. Im going to look into doing this. What I have found with this yak in particular and wider yak is that you can board it from the rear the pontone section and slide down it and grab the handle to flip the yak back over. Also I heard the same leaking and pedal drive issues as well and I jusg wanted to avoid all that and not lose my leg space.
      Thanks for providing your insight and tips. Gives me something to improve. and think about.
