  • The 2021 Ford Bronco Sport Badlands ($40,199 CAD, $32,820 USD) is the roughest and toughest of the Bronco Sports, but is it Enough? Too much? Or just right? Watch as Thomas and James take the baby Bronco out for a drive on the road and also on a small hill.

The thing I love so much about Throttle House that sets them apart from every other vehicle review channel is that every time they review a vehicle, it's like they're regular people who have never before experienced the "latest and greatest" in vehicle technology and trends. I'm from the UK, so the Bronco name doesn't come with any historical baggage or preconceived notions of what a Bronco should or shouldn't be. Judged purely as a car in its own right, I love this thing. It looks really cool, and for most of the people who will buy one, that's the most important thing. It may not have true off road credibility, but it looks like it does, and that will make owners feel like they have something a bit special as they drive to work, do the school run, and go for the groceries. And for that, I commend the Bronco Sport. It's a feel good car, which is the very best kind of car you can get.

Having better awd and clearance on forest roads or out in the desert is nice, this is just like a Subaru. Not a true off roader, but perfectly adequate for camping and exploring a bit off the beaten path. This would get you to some pretty awesome campsites that a more car like crossover would struggle with. I'm all for more competition in the 'offroady crossover' spectrum. I don't need a truck or body on frame SUV with what I like to do, but man ground clearance and awd is a must.

I wanted to buy a Badlands, but Ford was such a pain to deal with. From finding one to test drive (only one dealer let me drive one), to offering $5k below market for my trade-in, to one dealer giving me the hard sell on an Escape as they didn't have a Bronco to sell.
The actual Bronco Sport was kind of good looking, felt less like a crossover and had some go with that 2.0L.
I ended up walking into a Toyota dealership, got a great trade-in price bought a RAV4 hybrid and no annoying sales pitch or having to speak to the manager before I could leave.

Though the kit and installation costs like twice the price of the car and 3 times if you go for the full mercedes AMG interior too.

The 1st gen Escape had it's AWD system designed by Dana and could send 100% of power to the rear if needed, or lock at 50/50 split.

Two years into ownership and love it still. It’s a Tonka Toy and exudes off road vibe but is more than happy to chew up miles on freeways. It’s cheap and cheerful and no worse for that. This is left at our second home for months on end (connected to trickle charge) and it’s starts on a button. Last oil change was 60 dollars 👍. My everyday car in UK is a Range Rover Vogue and I don’t feel short changed for the 29,000 I paid for this….. it’s got all we need and the 3 cylinder 1.5Ltr engine is peppy enough for our needs and will happily cruise at 80mph and accommodate all our hiking gear/garden furniture and diy junk from home depot. What’s not to like people 😜

I'm convinced that the sweet spot in the Bronco Sport lineup is the Outer Banks. All the luxury trim with fancy wheels and a softer ride. But if you want the 2.0 L 4-cylinder, you have to go Badlands and take the more truck-like ride and handling. If only the other trims offered the 2.0 L engine as an option.
