2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Review // DRAG RACE & LAP TIME
The 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N ($78,199 starting in Canada, $66,100 starting in the US) is the first EV to receive the N treatment from Hyundai. A dual-motor, all wheel drive system makes a maximum of 641 horsepower and 568 lb ft of torque. To live up to its N counterparts, the Ioniq 5 N sees numerous performance focused improvements over the normal model. This includes some serious things like fully redesigned suspension, meatier tires, and exterior design elements to help with cooling and aerodynamics. But how does it handle the track?     I own a 2023, and I can say that I am very happy with it. I am a long-time Honda fan, and I can tell you that this doesn't drive like an old integra or civic. It does have a lot to offer when you spend a little time with it and learn what it is good at. It handles extremely well, especially if you are applying power through corners. Understeer is completely neutralized in this setting. The steering is quick and precise. If you are approaching a decreasing radius turn, then it feels a little nose heavy in these situations. The transmission is excellent when left in automatic mode in sport plus. It stays in the right gear and makes great sounds. It is pretty quick too. Obviously, an m340 is faster!! I am impressed with the brakes for Back Road blasts. Track work would overheat them. The seats are excellent. Supportive, comfortable, and grippy. Seat ventilation is a great feature. The stereo is clear and has a nice full sound. It might be a little bass heavy with certain music. I personally love the looks. Wide and low never went out of style. It feels like it is more expensive than it is. All the switches have a quality feel. The engine sounds expensive and refined. There is the promise of low running costs, which can't be underestimated. Cars are depreciating assets, and expensive repairs will affect your long-term term financial position. Now, to be fair, we are still talking about an expensive purchase. If we were all and little smarter and a little more practical, we would drive Camrys!

    I've posted too many comments on this video, but one more: search for "Car Throttle Renault Zoe", first video that comes up. *That's* what's missing from the performance EV market, not another 5000lb lowered crossover with gimmicky videogame tidbits! Light weight, good power, requires the driver to pay attention, sounds great *without* any augmentation and while being true to what it is rather than emulating what it's not.

    This car has a faster Nürburgring time (only by a few seconds) than the Urus as well. Which means it is overall a faster car. That's wild to think about.

    Brilliant review. -And for the first time in the past 25 years, I've FINALLY heard the CORRECT way to pronounce "Hyundai" from a reviewer. THANK you, James!!!! That is EXACTLY how any VP of Hyundai (I was our local Cali company's service "face" to them for their micro-chip division, back then -to pronounce their own company's name.. even when they made crappy cars but good memory chips.) This is a great car... (Kinda expensive, but brilliant.) I love your reviews, and have for over a decade. Just so damn honest and real.

    Best solution for me... buy the '24 manual (before they disappear) and replace the steering wheel with the one from the '25 when it comes out to get rid of the capacitive buttons.

    My biggest problem with hyundai N cars is that theyre designed to appeal to 16 yr olds with the styling and flashy colors, but you have to be 30+ yrs old to afford one.

    HYUNDAI deserves more credit for what they're doing. They've recreated dynamic feedback in an EV. It's super critical when driving a car hard or tracking one. The important parts are not fake. The feeling, the sensation, weight shift, intertia is all real. Any car maker in the performance EV space is now playing catch up.

    I’d opt for the Genesis GV60 Magma. I have the current one and that’s plenty fast. If Genesis has the Magma, it should be a tad bit faster than this and people still won’t know what the hell it is.
