The most baffling thing about this whole argument with Shearer was that Owen had the actual audacity and cheek to question Shearer's undeniable loyalty to Newcastle when he was the one who played for Liverpool and then Man United! 🤣

The audacity of this guy. He gets paid fortunes for being injured, and not very good for 4 years, but when Newcastle need him, he calls playing 15 mins "putting my body on the line". Owens issue was simple he didn't want to retire early due to injury so played on any way he could newcatle where fools at the time to spend 16 million on him just typical of Newcastle Owen was never the same once he ruptured his hamstring in 2 places in 99 he's admitted he was afraid to make runs or get into the right channels knowing if he made a run he could tear his muscle he comes out of plaster starts playing before building up muscle strength in the leg then his knee goes at the point he's damaged goods just like Owen Hargreaves was 3 seaons at united and never really played

Leave my Michael alone. He's a brave soldier. Did you know that he once cut his thumb and cried to Sir Bobby who gave him some plasters before the game and then Michael played, with a cut thumb. He was a brave boy. Cannot believe any professional would admit to hiding on the field (allegedly due to his achilles issues) and expecting people to not criticize the fact he rarely played , when he did, he avoided the ball but happily took a hundred and twenty grand a week for the privilege. Then admits he only went to Newcastle for the money, then slaggs them off - perhaps he should return 1/2 his wages (only 6 million - that's half his wages). Recent interviews all done with a straight face as if he did no wrong ... incredible lack of morality. As for Shearer, the manager of the club, he would have been well and truly fu%$ed off. Left Liverpool because he thought they wouldn't regularly qualify for the champs league.
They won it the next year.
Understand partly his comments on loyalty. That people in "normal" jobs aren't loyal. If you worked for coke and pepsi offered you a job on more money / better role, there is no reason not to take it. But if you were at Liverpool from a child, then signing for utd is questionable. That's more akin to coke paying for your food and schooling, then you working for pepsi.

It really was the fault of Newcastle to bring him in when they did, Owen's injuries had clearly broken him by the mid 00's. And that injury at the 2006 World Cup when he was just looking like he was getting back put the icing on the cake.
In terms of "Who's to blame" for Newcastle going down that season, it's the poor performances that put them in the hole to begin with, as well as the obviously heinous Mike Ashley. I dont know if we should all immediately take Shearer's side just because he's a much more likeable character than Owen, I reckon Owen makes some good points.

Rafa still didn't want him as part of his Liverpool TEAM (and quickly won stuff WITHOUT him!!!).. It's a great football club in the narrow minds of its delusional hardcore of mongoloid fans only. In every other respect it's a mid-to-bottom table team with little or no prospect of glory locally or abroad, in the past, now, or ever (neither of those are direct quotes from the book). His take on fans is also accurate. There are the casual fans, the devoted but rational fans, and then there are the fanatics. This latter cohort of unwashed, intellectually stunted, mentally impoverished, plebs are like an unfair tax on everything that's descent and good about sport in general, and football in particular. To such people, loyalty to one means a deep and abiding hatred of the rest. Such people have nothing, and thus can offer nothing.

Shearer retired from England duty at 30 yrs old, which many players have done before & will continue to do...
Paul Scholes comes to mind when he retired England at 29.
So to be critical of that is total bullshit!

Owen was far and away a better player then shearer amd was best player in the world fir a few years and from 17 to 25 one of best in the world but he had terrible injuries. Shearer had injuries to and didn't play when injured! Shearer put himself first to! Shearer had THREE YEARS out not playing and getting paid!! THREE YEARS!! To say Owen didnt want to play is a disgrace, he wanted to play so bad he played at stoke coz he loved football, from being real Madrid best scorer in the season there, that shows the humility of the guy! Problem is scoursers and Geordies are very bitter unhappy miserable out of date old fashioned out of place not very educated people and they hate everyone and dont no how to be hsppy have fun and live life so they take it out on people always have always will, they even hate the beatles LA and in a scouser La

    Utter crap from Owen.......again!
Of course Shearer wants his best players on the pitch when fighting relegation. Who wouldn't?
Owen was paid very good money by Newcastle to play football and when the club needed him he downed tools. That's disrespectful and dishonest.
Owen's rant about blaming anyone except himself again demonstrates his dishonesty and narcissistic nature!
Shearer's the type that you'd want in the trenches with you....... Owen would be running away blaming you for the enemy firing shots at him as he goes!

@@regiment589 I assume your "was he" does not relate to my comments about whether Shearer was a "dreadful manager" or not, consider I didn't offer an opinion on that! I simply said "maybe he was, maybe he wasn't".
Therefore, I assume your "was he" response is in regard to whether Shearer was "trying" to keep Newcastle up, or not. I really can't believe Shearer wouldn't try. Maybe he wasn't good at the job, but I feel sure he would have tried to keep Newcastle up.
You sound a little too bitter to give a levelheaded and thoughtful response. I can understand that - people get very emotional about football.
