Still won the league that season, and went on to sign the likes of Solskjaer, Cole, Yorke, Sheringham. Won more trophies etc. But I'd have loved to have got Shearer. Shearer made the right move as he was a Newcastle obsessive. When he played for Blackburn he used to stay on Tyneside after matches away at St James' Park and just stay in the stadium for several hours with Newcastle's other England players (Rob Lee, Les Ferdinand etc) and hang out there. He'd always said his dream was to captain England while playing for Newcastle... How many of us can say we lived our dream?
Gazza on the other hand, should have gone to Man United in 1988. Spurs was a move where Venables was too scared to fine him for turning up drunk to training, Ferguson would have straightened him out and instead of 57 England caps and being finished by 29, he would have been world class for a decade or more.
