    his last game as a player at Newcastle, he came round the pitch, I was about 8, in the family enclosure with me Dad, He came to us and held either end of my scarf and said, "i see you every week with your Dad, and he signed my autograph book, I still have it today.... @@deanhowell5936 Each club certainly does have their own unique support. No one can argue against the atmosphere at Anfield, especially on European nights, or Dortmund's yellow wall etc. I've been to a Milan derby for example and that exceeds anything I've ever seen in football. I do think though that Newcastle has more similarities to Scottish football support than England - the support is on a level with Celtic than any other English club for me.

    • @Charlieb82
      @Charlieb82 Před 2 lety +2

      @@deanhowell5936 I think the big difference is the misunderstanding and misconception that most people (and probably mostly pundits) have towards the toon and our supporters. The old misconception of unrealistic expectations is always trotted out, yet you never hear it mentioned for any other club. The only expectations we have is for every player to give 100% effort and to entertain, as football should be played. We don't work all week to sit bored, we want to enjoy the games. KK is right about getting beat too - I was at both Liverpool 4-3 away games and although it was gutting to be beaten both times it was a great spectacle and even talking to the Liverpool fans outside the ground on the way to the car was a class experience of both sets of supporters just enjoying the moment together of seeing an unbelievable game (and the amazement of it happening the following year)

      His grandfather, father and uncle were all from the North East's mining industry and I think he genuinely thought a lot for the people up here. I remember taking my kids to watch the team train at Maiden Castle and Keagan would stop back and talk to the kids and sign autographs, long after the training had finished. I also remember a story from someone who wrote a letter to Kevin asking if he could donate some NUFC memorabilia for a charity fund raising afternoon in a local village. Kevin turned at the event unannounced and spent a few hours there. He didn’t ask for anything or want any thanks, he just wanted to give something back.

    this club wouldn't be the club we are now in our modern form if it wasnt or this man, took us from the brink of the 3rd tier, to nearly being crowned champions of England, playing mesmerising football on the way, if Sir Bobby has a statue outside SJP, then Keegan needs one or a stand named after him or something, with out a doubt one of the most important people if not the most in our recent history.... to see him back in SJP will be a special day indeed, would love to see him get an ambassador role or something like that, legend

      @@pritapp788 I don't think so. They're nowhere near the vile Guardian who have been unspeakably spiteful and full of bile against Newcastle, fans and even the damn CITY. Even their most repugnant journalists doing essays ranting hatred of the PEOPLE in the area - disgracefully printed by the New Statesman, without a word of apology.
      Thats not going to change any time, let alone soon. Yes, Sky and Talk Sport spend a disproportionate time attackling Newcastle fans - they're "not a big club" yet talk about them as much, and often more than the ones they CLAIM to be "big clubs" - there is a fear and horror that we may actually be on our way to challenge. And that upsets the media a LOT.

    A Newcastle fan here and I wouldn't have swapped Keagan for any other manager in the world. We didn't win anything but he loved Newcastle football club and nothing could beat the atmosphere at St James's during the Keagan years.

    Bang on. Which is why I've fully supported wor current squad. They aren't the most talented bunch. And Steve Bruce is not a good manager. But this current group of players have worked their balls off for the club.
    I look at the side who were relegated in 2009, who were a bunch of football mercenaries; simply showing up every week to collect their weekly wages... I hope those days don't return...
    We have the finances now. And we'll get a good manager in. But it takes a special person and player to wear a Newcastle shirt.
