With over 50 years of history, the #ToyotaCorolla is easily one of the best-selling nameplates in the world with over 46 million units sold globally. Since #Toyota is enjoying so much success with the #Corolla, a new version of the sedan is a very important addition to the lineup. Thankfully, for 2020, the #CorollaSedan rides on the same TNGA architecture as the Camry, Avalon, Rav4, and Corolla hatch which means driving dynamics has greatly improved, a new 2.0L direct injection engine with 169 HP is available, and manual buyers can rejoice because a rev-matching 6-speed stick is available on SE trims for 2020. This generation also introduces a new hybrid trim with 121 combined horses and up to 53 MPG in the city. Historically, Toyota has also seen intense competition from Honda and Mazda so can this new Corolla raise the bar above its main Japanese rivals? - Auta a dopravní prostředky
It’s getting to the point of why even buy a luxury car , because all these economy cars are coming with led lights , touch screens, and leather seats
@Noe Palomo lol. So true
I agree these new cars have everything one would need.
Because luxury cars now have way more than that too. Not to mention they are larger and have a much smoother and quieter ride. Not trying to knock your point but there are plenty of valid reasons to still get a luxury car over an economy car.
@@xfiringsquadx facts. Its 2019, luxury is much more than those 3 points mentioned above
I agree I have a Cadillac CT6 platinum but seriously thinking about trading it in for a Toyota Camry XSE or New Avalon
I don't care for SUV/CUV/Crossovers. I'm glad to see most non-American automakers haven't abandoned the compact car segment.
Jeff Morse people have to understand that the automakers have no intention to abandon any model, it's the people who are not buying certain models which is leading to a premature end. As long as people will buy compact sedan, the segment will survive.
Toyota will NEVER abandon the Camry and Corolla, and I love them for that
Other manufacturers abandoned compact cars because of Toyota and Honda does it so good that it doesn’t make sense for them to compete in the compact market.
Chevrolet discontinuing Cruz and Impala just for idiots one sit up high while driving
Ford also gave up on their cars. So technically if you want cars then go with Japanese or Koreans.
I only came for the sound of the door
I came for the Key Fob 😂😂
I came to see if there were 'soft touch' materials.
Sofyan needs to stop that. The sound of a door closing has no bearing on quality or safety at all.
Pretty solid.
I am surprised there was no felt lined glove box.
Toyota is really kicking ass while Nissan flushes down the toilet bowl.
What Ever mine still kicking my nissan sentra.
Nissan is sadly going the way of Mitsubishi. Only making M.O.R. SUVs and forgettable sedans that aren't even reliable

I bet Scotty Kilmer is getting revved up by this review :-P
Most likely but he doesn’t like new Toyotas nearly as much as he likes Toyotas from the 90s and early 2000s
Scotty would never buy a newer Toyota. He likes to save his money.
If this was a 1994 Celica he'd be revvin high!

The amount of information this man can retain and articulate about this particular vehicle is kinda mind blowing
Brandon Cavazos I was thinking the same it’s a lot and he talks so fast lol
Hybrid is $22,900? I think it will may outsell the Prius considering it has almost the same economy rate, a much better looking design, and is generally cheaper.
Energetic Fox Studios I think you’re right even though the hybrid Corolla is only available in a base trim. I have owned 2 Prius and know other Prius owners. If you don’t care about luxury content (like us) the hybrid Corolla makes a lot of sense.
@@danielc3321 really? Why is it only base trim? That's too bad...
prius has awd now
That is toyota`s problem now, the CH-R hybird and the auris hybrid (this corolla`s predecessor for the EU market, US got the auris as the "scion iM" and Corolla iM, but not as a hybrid) already outsold the prius in 2013 when it came out. Toyota is gonna have to do some drastic to keep the prius a seller, i got a 2011 prius, and we also got a 2013 auris TS hybrid, 2016 Auris TS hybrid. And i wont get another prius when the auris exists, never... The prius used to be the most "technological advanced" car from toyota, the auris took over that spot in 2016 with the face lift. The prius is no longer the most techy car from toyota, the auris is (was as of 2019), so the current prius makes no sense, there has been leaked pics of a prius crossover driving around on a test track, its made of the Lexus RX300h (gyazo.com/ccc9924435c23c686d313d302db8461b), its obviously the 2016 prius front on the RX300h, what i believe (that it is a thread about on www.priuschat.com) is that the prius is changing shape to a crossover. Atleast the prius V, it just makes sense, since SUV`s and crossovers have started to sell so insanely good now. With the prius V turning into a crossover, the regular prius would have to turn into an EV , prius was the first hybrid mass produced, it started the hybrid era. It should be the car to lead toyota into the EV era.
It's overpriced. It's a fucking Corolla
corolla should bring back the XRS trim with the 2.5 4cyl with 206HP and a 6 speed manual. it would compete directly with the civic si
Xrs with the 1.8 2ZZ was the one to get only 05 & o6
the XRS had the Camry engine from that generation and pushed around 170HP which is basically this new Corolla lol, but they should definitely try and compete with the Si
Muzamil Khan yeah and use a short throw shifter
@@MuzamilKhan-eg2vq The Corolla XRS from 08+ had the Camry engine that was shared with the Scion TC as well. The engine the 04-06 XRS had was a Yamaha engine that was used for Lotus, Celica GTS, Matrix XRS and Vibe. Which was a great engine that competed with Honda/Acura and it held as well.
Muzamil Khan 2.4 does have more torque
I could have absolutely seen them reserving this styling for something they'd release under the scion nameplate. RIP scion but dang its great to see a Toyota sedan actually impress me with it's styling for once.
Kinda reminds me of what new TC would look like
looks like a cruze from the side
New camry?
@@wadeatkinson4766 looks nothing like the Cruze from the side at all. Maybe u mean the older cruze
I just got this car and I love it. The only annoying thing is the tablet awkwardly sticks out of the dash, but admittedly it is really convenient when you don't know where you're going because the map is big and easy to see.
Turbo compromises longevity and reliability. That sets Toyota apart from the others
@Erick Hernandez I think you completely missed the word “compromises” when commenting back because you’re talking like you guys agree, but your example shows you didn’t comprehend what he was saying because you disagree. He’s saying not having a turbo is better for longevity and reliability.
I really like your review style and excellent video and audio, very professional. I Just purchased a 2021 Corolla XSE in silver metallic with the optional black metallic roof and a 6 speed manual. I really could not be happier, for numerous reasons. But, dependability, fuel economy and best of all, a manual transmission. It really transforms this car into something an enthusiast can appreciate. I am an older car guy who has had all kinds of autos, mostly foreign, with an equal percentage of Japanese and German cars and SUV's. I am loving this sporty Corolla.
Sure can see why the Americans are leaving the auto buisness. When fuel prices go up then their business plan based on trucks could really hurt their sales. I don't see how American cars could beat this economy car.
I agree. The only reason I see people wanting big V8's In the future Is because of speed and not as a daily driver.
@@beast11135 I need a truck to tow. Got rid of my last one because it was weak. Some people need a truck. I got a Honda for daily driving. Best of both worlds.
@Cool Story Bro Yes. I did. Bought 2018 Tundra with 5.7.
American Muscle cars like Camero and Mustang are still great.
Cool Story Bro haha a tundra over an f150 for towing??
Great to see you and Alex together. I watch his review alot aswell.
See...I'm riding in an '01 Corolla (which I love)...and I saw this thing parked somewhere from a side angle and I kept looking at it like, "What the hell is that..." and realized it was a 2020. It looks AMAZING; the design is just spectacular. I imagine it's still got that great mileage, probably still reliable under the hood, etc.
Corolla has always been a conservative car, focused on comfort. It isn't a sporty performance car and bold design, but it's a low fuel consumption, great value for resale and very reliable, with low maintenance cost. For this reason Corolla is the top selling car in the world.
I agree with all of that except the resale. There's so many of them available used. You can actually find tons of them pretty cheap with low miles on them.
KimsFakeName yeah salvage titles lol 👍
Erly Henrique Silva you’re right! Getting mine next month!
A lot of Toyota products will be reliable and long-lasting like the Corolla. I'm interested to try and buy a Corolla for myself in the future, since it's been a long time since I drove a sedan-type of vehicle. I'm mainly been driving the RAV4 for about 6 years now.
Wait, why does the car actually looked good omg
foreal
It looks good?
Those headlights and that grill?
Louis Morano yes, especially compared to pretty much every other car in the the segment, they all look pretty much ugly, this car actually looks decent and I wouldn’t mind driving one.
TX X what car in this segment looks better?
The grill and headlights are 100% Kouki S14. I think it looks great.
Always enjoy seeing Alex and you together for a review! Hope to see more 😁
As per usual, production value and music are on point. Thanks for the review.
This new CVT with physical launch gear looks perfect. Good job Toyota.
Thanks great video.
I was skeptical about the new design of the 2020 Corolla Sedan until I saw one on the showroom at my local Toyota dealership, while waiting for my 2018 Corolla SE oil change. They look really nice in person. I’ve already seen a few on the road. No matter what reviewers or critics say, this car will still be the best selling car in the world for many years to come.
One of the best auto reviewers in North America. I’ve been following various reviews from different channels but this Redline Reviews has no competitions.
Great job on the review. You are top notch. My favorite car reviewer on CZcams!
The COROLLA is legendary for being a rock solid reliable car for basic transportation. i had an 86 a 93 and now a 2010. as a back up to my truck. dont make it a lUxury car, keep it basic. just my opinion.
Maximus Areilius no need to make it luxury, it's already good.
@@birdyashiro1226 make it pretty! That's an ugly looking car compared to the competition tbh...
The exterior definitely looks better, but I hate that stupid tablet sticking up out of the dash. My ocd would make me want to rip it off.
Yes sir, lazy interior designers.
I agree. I hate those damn tablet looking screens.
Came here to post this. Kinda wish you could pop it up and down based on preference. It's the only reason I wouldn't buy one as the rest of it looks unreal.
I like it
@@D.N.R.911 It's not lazy. Think Mazda started that design. The point of it was so you could have a smaller dash as opposed to building around it. This lowers the dash, saves $ on materials, cleaner look & more room. Great for shorter people who can't see the bonnet. Also keeps your eyes closer to the road.
Function vs form.... Personally I don't mind it. 2019 Mazda 3 looks tablet is integrated well. IMO it looks good.

Love this channel. Wish you put out more content more often!
My dream Corolla would be the 2.5 4 cylinder, AWD and their non-cvt transmission.
And will only get 15mpg..
Not a Toyota guy per se (fan of the Tundra) but went to the dealer for my wife's Camry 20k service. Floated around the showroom and the Corolla XSE was on display. Very clean small car with an air of sophistication. The hatch was a looker too. Reminds me of the Lexus CT200h which it's based off of. They have some winners in this segment.
I think it's great that Sofyan includes other auto reviewers like Alex & Matt. No egos here & all reviewers bring their own flavor when reviewing the same car.

Love seeing you partner up with Alex!
I'm in my 60's and I LOVE my Corolla. Love the good Ole basic car to get you from point A to B. Keep your extra money in the bank instead of shelling out 10 or 20k more for something fancier than you may need.
Mary Stevenson - Good point, plus the Corolla is a terrific small car that has been around for almost 60 years and by far the best selling vehicle of all times regardless of class or price. When all of my kids have their own car, I will get a Corolla.
Am I really hearing this right? Someone actually loves the Corolla? Yes Toyota realize that the Corolla can't simply ride on its reputation anymore but I still think they could have done so much better with the overall design inside and out
Yes , your right. My next door neighbor bought this exact car and now when I see him his always wearing super tight jeans & telling me about his corollas beautiful rear bumper lines. And this guy is in his 50's .
24:40 that was so intentional what Alex did 😂
Watch it again. The entire road was covered with water from left to right...and he did not change lanes. Nothing intentional there.

Did you ask them for a discount and did they give you one ?
Nice car, still went for a Camry and can’t say I’m surprised, my Camry gets about 520 miles per full tank. It it’s a bit sportier with a 203 hp engine that it’s also coupled with an automatic transmission and it’s a bit bigger. Loving how Toyota makes incredibly good cars. Respect. If they keep it up they will eat the whole market little by little.
Thank you for mentioning where the cars will be made. All auto reviewers/journalists should mention this important spec
This car has one of the best styles,. I have ever seen. This is going to be my next car, I really like that futuristic, aggressive, yet conservative style, it is super awesome. The Sedan Toyota Corolla 2020 is so far the best car I have ever seen.
Toyota SERIOUSLY underrates the fuel economy of these things. I have a 2020 SE model with the 6MT and I've been getting between 50-60 mpgs on the highway. It's insane, and driving in Vegas traffic everyday can eat gas pretty quick. Put 200 miles on it and I'm still at a half tank.
Great car. Fun to drive, rev matching is nifty, and it's a pretty cool looking car too. Toyota knocked this one out of the park, and I used to drive a 2000 Celica GTS 6MT before I upgraded. Still miss my leather seats though
Keep us updated I'm considering getting it
@@Nsingh11 I'd recommend you do it. At about 2,200 miles now and nothings changed. Still averaging 40 mpgs daily between highway driving to work and the stop and go traffic around downtown vegas.

They just need to add a Knight Rider light sweep under the front logo and the look is complete....😊
I want to know how that JBL audio system sounds. That's all that really matters!
It kinda bad. If u put on music u wouldn't feel like ur hearing it around u it just feel like u r hearing it only on the front. The honda civic is much better

I saw one today and I couldn't believe how good it looked. And it was a manual!
About time toyota steps up on its corollas. Looking better every year
Oh yes. Give me the 6speed! #savethemanuals
@Anton Zuykov they will disappear soon. Noone is buying them. Now a days automatics shift better then any human can
@@nickr3441 I just bought a (new) manual car just over a year ago, so guess another "Noone" checking in. 3 out of 5 cars/trucks in my family are manual as well. This is such crap IMHO especially when you are talking CVTs - just horrid in most cases with the rubber-band effect (the new Toyota 2.0/1st gear/CVT combo maybe the exception). The many speed automatics will likely also bring additional cost when they break and the websites that capture issues are logging a lot of automatic transmission problems (Nissan CVTs, new Tacomas, Escape etc.... Manuals are still cheaper to purchase, proven more reliable, easier to maintain and own in the long term plus much more fun. Most people that drive with me don't even realize initially that mine is a manual due to how smooth they are and how easy the clutch is. Also support the independent rear suspensions! Boo Mazda and VW!

I just got this car on the 11th of this month, and I love it.
Great improvement on looks & drive dynamics Good job Toyota
This car looks sweet! I just bought a 2016 Corolla S with 16k on it. Once I changed the crappy halogen fog light for LED that match the other lights it was perfect. I love it but this thing looks extremely better.
I love how little of the grill is actually functional in aero
Looks absolutely stunning. Not sure if I could live with only 169 ponies though. I'll hold off until I can actually drive it.
If you cant compete get the hell out! This is a real winner. Good job Toyota.
Too bad we don't get the practical wagon in the US...
This segment is so impressive. Corolla, Mazda 3, Civic/Insight, Forte, Imprezza, even the Passat all are compelling vehicles. It's so sad they're becoming less popular when they've gotten so good.
Jetta**
Less popular = more discounts!
J.G. At least share your thoughts with Toyota. They know they made the hatch too small to be practical.
Mightbe Sherwood that’s should mean more sales
Sofia and Alex are my top car reviewers that I watched and followed. They are the best in my opinion.
Toyota has been using that 1.8 for longer than 10 years... What a treat it was to hear they are now using a 2.0
Very beautiful car. Toyota did amazing on the design!
19:04 wow. That's a cvt? Very impressive Toyota!!!
I have the '14 S.
I'm loving this cars's screen gauges, touch screen, JBL sound system, auto hold, electric e-brake. Wish I could upgrade
Will wait for the Android Auto later on in the year to possibly purchase. I rented the LE and was very impressed with the 1.8 liter especially heading to the Sierra Mts. to Reno. Pick-up for this older engine was fine.
It's extremely rare for a new generation car to become *smaller* than the previous generation car
help me I found another moron in here!!
They finally changed the back of that box car!
I’m going to look at one today I love the sound and the look it looks really good😎😎😎👠
i would describe the road noise as a nice soothing white noise to gently lull you to sleep after a long hard day at the office so just sit back and relax and listen to the sound of my voice and imagine a nice relaxing beach as you feel the cool breeze and OH SHT WE'RE IN ONCOMING TRAFFIC!!!
Great review as always! I don’t know why people would prefer a sedan over a hatch?! Hatches are so much easier to work with.
7:50s it's very nice and impressive! For a compact un luxury car.. not just a nice feature
This new design is really cool looking.

Call me crazy, but I see a super mini-Avalon touring going on haha
Taillights, Grill, headlights, etc.
Erick_YPR Sure. “You’re crazy!”
i just booked the corolla as my rental car for my holiday to tampa next month
My 2.0 CVT with my driving gets horrible gas mileage in my city commute, but when road-tripping it is absolutely wonderful. I even lowered my car 1” all around, even fully loaded with luggage and a full sound system, it drives very very well and did not feel like i was being pushed around with high winds at 80mph. I love my car so much i’m considering going from SE up to the XSE but i’m waiting to see if toyota will add a turbo or a few more features to get me in there and do a trade in.
I'm very impressed with this new generation. However, I still think the hatchback looks better than the sedan, but the sedan offers more legroom so overall which is better comes down to personal preference.
The wagon is the one I want but it won't be coming to the US ...
I'm sure the car is better overall. but Toyota's new TNGA platform seems to take A LOT of interior space from the sedans. The Corolla, Camry, even the Lexus LS, are all noticeably smaller inside, far less roomy, than the vehicles they replace. Maybe the structure is much better reinforced, but you will notice the difference sitting inside that you lose a lot of extra space.
That's great! Sedans have been growing since their popularity in the 90s caused them to become the "all-in-one" standard for everyday vehicles. But how much bigger can they get? The fact is ppl aren't buying sedans for the same reasons anymore. Toyota understands this and instead of killing their sedans they're sending them back to their roots of being low, compact, sports vehicles. That's why the new LS is nothing what it once was- The new G90 is based on the old LS fundamentals and it sells about 50-100/month!
Of course Being Toyota, journalists would rather criticize and remain ignorant to their strategy like Toyota accidentally "messed up" until others follow suite and credit will be given to the other brands. But I said it here first, Bravo 👏 Toyota!!!
Sofyan is a type of guy who will open and shut the door of his new house to hear how solid it sound!
"I push the accelerator pedal and it goes fast". great review. this car happens to have the world's most thermally efficient engine, so yeah, you'd expect it to perform well in acceleration. "needs more power... I don't think they have an engine that could do that right now". brilliant.
Mazda 3 has joined the chat.
And 6
😄😄😄
Would get a Mazda 3 any day over a corolla. The Corolla looks weird now
Mazda 3 all wheel drive for the win!
Guys! It’s still a Mazda. No one wants that shit
26:18 It kinda does make sense that they're investing the money in refreshing it. With all of the other manufactures pulling out of the sedan market then they will be the only one to go to. Sales might not be as strong as before the crossover faze started but for those who still want a compact car then they can still get one from Toyota.
Crossover fad will go the way of the minivan.
Looks like an improved version of the civic interior! Those physical buttons for a/c and infotainment are absolutely lifesaving in winter. Plz Honda, do this!
I love them showing off the exhaust! Who cares if it ain’t fast just makes the car look a lot more premium!
Holy hell thats a nice looking car

@@theMLBfan Turn signals in a modern car? Dont make me laugh hahah. Most new cars hardly even have turn signals.
No it's not
bcoop85 Well an opinion is an opinion.
On the outside.
17:00 Nissan has really built their business around their XTronic CVT transmission. they have been selling just CVTs, not automatics, for about a decade. For Toyota to make a better performing CVT so quickly, when they most just provide the CVT to their hybrids, is pretty disturbring for Nissan fans.
Toyota has been making CVTs for a long, long time. I believe they’ve been used in all of the Prius. They keep improving them.
That's very true. How sad it is for Nissan. That's because they are owned by Renault which is one of the most unreliable car manufacturers. Their CVT transmissions are a joke that always give out after 25-30k miles. Once Nissan finally decided to split ways or drop the CVT transmissions they'll be good again like they were in the early times 04 and below.
@@kaneinkansas My point is clearly Nissan is not improving their CVTs. They've been doing CVTs, at scale, more than Toyota. Toyota came late to the CVT game. Nissan was all in 10 years ago.
Toyota uses a dual pulley CVT in their Corollas and I just don't trust dual pulley CVTs for long term reliability. The CVT in the Prius is a different animal. It's an eCVT that works electromagnetically, without belts and pulleys.
@@nettle97008 Toyota Corolla has one of the most reliable CVT transmissions out there. I haven't heard anything much about them. That's why they're so highly spoken of as reliability over the competition. Honda even has a good one too but they start having issues around the 100k from what I've been told by buddy who owns a shop. I don't know how the new 2019+ Corollas will be but personally 2014 Corolla S Plus perfect daily driver and work traveling car ..not one issue except tires and brakes. 9 miles new to 88k and going strong.
Just drove one of these today about 160 miles from the airport through the desert to my destination...this corolla is really well put together. Tracked super straight, felt confident going 95 mph and touching 100 mph..on only the basic tires the rental came with. The only thing I don’t like is it’s vulnerable to strong winds..but so are all small cars. Point it where you want to go and it goes! The old boring Corolla is finally dead!
The real first gear really makes you forget this is a CVT..you can actually pull out into traffic like a car with a regular auto transmission!
This is definitely the best looking small car I've ever seen
