@matej nemec Yeah those are rasterization numbers. I saw a few people who were angry about the Doom video since it took it from 80-100FPS and went to around 130-140 FPS and thus they're saying that the claims of it being 80% faster were lies. Well, Doom doesn't have RT OR DLSS, and it was STILL a massive FPS increase at 2/3 the MSRP. So... pretty goddamned impressive. When more games use DLSS and RTX this thing is going to be godly.

I believe MS Flight Simulator won't use all the GPU Power, because it currently only uses up to 4 CPU cores, hence the poor performance of that game. Don't quote me on that tho.

John Smith yep! This is the first time I remember that the FE is actually an AIB card, by which I mean they’ve made radical changes to their own reference card that they gave to third party sellers. That tells me that unlike all other releases, they put a lot of work into the cooler and PCB (and thus wanna keep them for themselves), and feel confident enough that they have something worth safeguarding.
Man, 8 months later 699 dollars sounds like a godsend price for one of these, if you could even find one.

I think most pascal owners skipped turing because there wasn't really much performance to be gained at least if you were shopping in the same price range. I mean the 1080ti was the same msrp as the 2080 ($699) and pretty much matched it in performance (even beat in some cases because of the larger memory).

It sounds like the airflow of the reference cooler would benefit "chimney" style cases which draw air from the bottom and exhaust out top.

at this point in time, the 3060 (when it shows up) is gonna be a 1080 in performance, so that's a gigantic upgrade even if you buy the lower end sub $400 cards.

Debayan Sutradhar idk, I am building pc on budget so I only have 700$ for GPU, knowing the fact that Ti versions will be more expensive I’d rather buy RTX 3080 which has twice the power or RTX 2080. I'm waiting for thermal tests to come out, but I'm struggling to understand why the emphasis on the airflow towards the cpu.
With any previous aftermarket gpu's, haven't they always blow hot air back through the case?
If anything, this gpu cooler design gives the air direction, and I'd like to see the cpu fan go the same direction (turned 90degs) and maybe it'll trend airflow to go upwards rather than to the back of the case.

I bought a GTX 980 when it was new, has been using it until now, has not really had any need to upgrade until now that 3080 is releasing the next gen stuff, i'm upgrading mainly for 4k and 8k vr ready gpu, but so far the 980 has still let me play most new games on high settings with not much issues, whatever lag i get here and there has not really bothered me, but this upgrade will finally be totally worth it, in my case, lol.
You were talking about cooling a lot. I happen to own a laser cutter. These laser tubes are cooled with an external water cooler that is actually refrigerated. These are CW5000 water coolers. I wonder if those water coolers will work in a pc. I think it would be a good experiment for you to try.

Love the improvements however, please externally rout the power supply on the card. Same with motherboards and Power Supplies. It would be soo simple to have a case with a wire shroud or cover at the back to hide all the nasty wires and just use the right side of the cases for memory storage. Boom only input for case to motherboard and fan wires in a case.
I remember what a nice feeling was to buy a new card in the 90's with all the colorful boxes, manuals, stickers, driver disk and connectors put inside. Now its like you are unboxing a mobile phone...no chills at all :)

30 series makes sense, you don't say "RTX three thousand eighty".
I'm currently still on 980 TI, runs basically anything well enough but the gaming machine is starting to get a little old and I need a VR machine in living room so 700$ (most likely around 850€ when Finland's mystery technology tax is added) for a substantial upgrade is nice.
