Chasing Smallmouth on The Great Miami River in May!

- River fishing is starting to heat up as we approach June. I took a couple days and spot-hopped around on my favorite river. The Great Miami River is a special place here in Ohio and you can catch trophy smallmouth throughout the entire 150-mile-plus-long fishery. As the smallmouth finish spawning they start moving into summer patterns chasing bait in fast currents and utilizing shady banks to ambush prey and stay cool.

I live just South of Dayton very close to the Great Miami and have never caught a smallmouth. I've got it on my to do list. I love watching your videos, they inspire me to get out and fish more. I recognized some landmarks in your vids, but I won't give away your spots, keep up the good work!
That’s why I do this man!! Appreciate the support
Nothing beats a smallmouth. Love your channel.
Truly appreciate it Mark
The flatheads in the Great Miami love the smallies too, not that I ever used them for bait but I have caught flatheads from the Great Miami with the tail of a smallmouth sticking out of their gullet and they their still looking for something else to eat. But I’ve caught some decent smallies at different places in the Great Miami, along with decent Saugeyes too and walleyes. There are some walleyes in the great Miami but more Saugeye. Pretty decent rockbass too. You should go down to SE Ohio and hit the Scioto river, it’s got decent fish in it too. Southern part of the Scioto.
The GMR is great! I have also been on the Scioto!! Both places have their positives!!
@@thecreekcrawler- right on buddy, absolutely
I caught my first 20" smalljaw in the same spot you started at. Good stuff man!
Niiiice!! I only have a few of those 20 plus inchers under my belt.
I love that you use a spinning reel and actually enjoy the peeling of a drag unlike every other fishing page that uses 50lb braid on bait casters that just horse em in!
Bruh 50lb braid😂 I think 15-30 is like strong enough
Guarantee my man throws the trace on a baitcaster
I only use braid on the spinning rod honestly. Usually just run 12-16lb flouro on my casting set ups.
I’ve seen some folks throw 60lb on frog rods but I guess thats standard
Almost downtown Dayton! Amazing!
I poke around there from time to time!
Very nice. I kayak fish a stretch downstream of there. Below hamilton, no lowhead dams all the way to the ohio. Good chance of catching just about anything. Lots of good rapids and deep pools. Hit me up if you need a float partner for a day.
Yea that would be awesome!! I have fished down there a few times and had some luck!
Make me wanna throw finesse more. nice ones man!🔥
Grab the spinning rod 😂
Great couple days of fishing!!! The drag system on those diawa reels are second to none.
Absolutely!!! Love the drag systems they put in the reels!
Awesome day buddy! I had a similar day yesterday, 3 fish over 20” I freakin love smallie fishing
3 over 20” is crazy.. was this in Ohio?!
@@thecreekcrawler it was my best and luckiest day in the creek ever!
I recognize a few of those spots😏. Should hit me up sometime when you in the neighborhood! Tight lines👊🏼
😎🤫🤜🏻
Good job going in after that fish! Bravo.
One of the craziest catches as of late. I couldn’t let that fish just get snagged there.
If you are settling down in that area we can expect a lot more excellent videos like this one. Chunks were caught. The second day location looked pretty non-descript, but was loaded.
Possibly 😎🤫 thanks for watching Steve!
This is why I try my best to collect any broken line I find while fishing.
I know sometimes line snaps too far out to do anything about it, but I've been places where people just cut and leave their tangled line either on the banks or just below the surface. It's such a danger to wildlife.
Yea I can’t stand folks who leave a bunch of line scattered on the bank.
Nice job out there buddy! Some really nice catches. Looked like a great time! Thanks for sharing!
Appreciate the support David!! Good luck out there!
Great video and super nice smallies! That leech was doing some work!
Thanks Steve!! You already know the power of the leech!
I can watch this on repeat forever lol. great video & tight lines!
Truly
Appreciate it!
So happy to see your post …let’s freaking go
Yes sir!!! Let’s go!!!!
Caught me a 3# 10" smallie on 5/21/24 on an Eclipse Leech. Love my bronzebacks! Great catches. Love your 'tude, dude. Great content, as usual. TLF
Heck yea man congrats!!!!! A 3 plus in Ohio is a great fish! Appreciate the support as always.
That's great work brother. Started this banger with 19.5 fish. Appreciate the commitment level to get that fish landed off the snag. Smallies are pretty amped up in Illinois. They and other fish are gorging on cicadas and midge flies right now. That combined with the full moon gave us a 52 fish wading trip Saturday. Lost 2 between 16-18 inches (that's the SWAG-ometer from the jumps and visual) that came unbuttoned from the custom painted cicada lures I made. Blessings B
That’s unreal man!!!! Illinois has to be insane
@@thecreekcrawler This is definitely a window of opportunity not to be missed. 2nd brood should be coming up and out soon
Nice stretch of the GMR. I fish the stretch from New Miami through Hamilton and into Fairfield and Ross myself. Love catching those GMR smallies. Nice vid Crawler.
Thanks Ryan! Once I get settled down here I will be exploring further south.
I live in that area and it seems like any decent bank fishing spot I know of is already really pressured or has no trespassing signs. Always wanted to try that spot on River Road in Fairfield where the big bend is but they make it impossible to access.
Great video crawler those were all quality fish gotta get down there one of these days !
The GMR is a great place to wet a line. If I do say so myself.
👍😎
😎🤜🏻
Lets go in Jesus name sincerely "The Dayton Metro Smallmouth Slayer" doing it big on the Greatest Miami River my favorite river system in my region in the Dayton Metro areas🙏🙌🗣🕊🔥🦅🐟.
Thanks man!! GMR is a gem!
Whats your favorite spinning reel under $75? Been leaning towards pflueger president, okuma ceymar, or the carbon x. Tried any of these or know of a better one? Would love your opinion on the matter or anyone else thats sees this.
The Daiwa Regal was a nice reel!! But if you save a few more bucks the Daiwa Fuego is super nice too!!
@@thecreekcrawlerthanks for the input. Love ur videos. Work out on the river on a tow boat for 28 days. When I get a chance I watch the creek crawler or ndyakangler videos. Makes me want to pull the ole yak out right when I hit land for the first time and go fishing. Gotta give it to y'all the best in my opinion out there. Keep em coming.
What is your rod reel combo just curious?
I have a few favorites. The Daiwa Kages 7’3 MHF or the Daiwa Steez Utility Player 7’3 MHF. The reels are Daiwa Tatula Elites typically running 8.1s
Studs! whats the combo your using?
That’s the evergreen combat stick 6’10 medium extra fast. 15lb braid with 10lb flouro
What’re you using for bait?
Nikko Leech!
So where’s this???😢
I’m from Miamisburg and I rly don’t know any good spots at the river
I highly recommend getting on the bike trail and just hitting any and everything!
