Smallmouth Bass LOVE the Zman Micro Chatterbait in the Great Miami River, Ohio (surprise fish catch)

  • My last and final day to compete in the smalljaw brawl was an absolute thriller!! I caught tons of fish and upgraded a fish to improve to the top 15 by the end of the day! I had a fun time fishing in the smalljaw brawl and cannot wait for the next one! I even hook into a big surprise while bass fishing in the river. I have been fishing the Great Miami River for around 15 years now and every time I go out its a blast. I highly recommend throwing chatterbaits, swimbaits and jerkbaits and dont forget the ned rigs!!! You will have success!

    Nice video! I have been using the original size chatterbait and I really like it... The bass and pike seem to eat it up, but I haven't had any success with smallies on it though. I will try it out in mid-September when the fish school up out on my home lake. You've got me all fired up to get out there and catch some.

      The micro chatterbaits are PERFECT for the smallmouth! 1/8 oz and there are a few patterns to choose from. I like the all white but the black and blue is a fish catcher too until I snagged it.

    Really nice amount of smallies. I've fished these same creeks and streams for 30 years.
    I've caught alot big smallmouth. The way to catch big ones are big topwater baits or big crankbaits.
    The best bait for big smallmouth around here is, a 6" jointed Rapala with 3 treble hooks fished as a topwater.
    The most productive bait is a Zoom Satin Pearl Fluke.
    Use a circle hook, no weight, hook it through the nose and don't let it get out of your sight.
    My sons and I have caught numerous 3 & 4 pounders on these 2 baits.

    Excellent video. I know that area very well on account of having grew up in that town and even though it's been many years since I fished in that area, I am by way far one of the most knowledgeable people that you'll ever come across when it comes to knowing how, when and where to fish the waterways near Hamilton and the history of that area. That canal is the old hydraulic canal for what was once a Ford tractor plant back in the 1920s and that stone-arch railroad bridge has been there since the early 1850s. Up above the Ford plant is the old Hamilton city reservoir that supplied water for the Miami & Erie canal in that area. I have numerous historical pictures of that entire area where you are fishing and those images are beyond incredible to say the very least. As for the fishing; the fishing opportunities in Hamilton are absolutely outstanding as all get out. There are lots of very big fish to be caught all through that part of Ohio. My personal three biggest fish just from that stone-arch bridge alone include a 53 lb Flathead catfish, a 49 inch Muskie and a 7 lb 12 oz Smallmouth bass. Opportunities still exist right on up to this very day all throughout that entire area to catch fish like just like these.

      Wow I knew by just fishing there that it was special! Thank you for the history lesson. I always love to learn about the history of places. I have a feeling I am going to catch a BIG smallmouth there this year! I am new to the Hamilton area but my instincts kicked in and got pretty lucky!

      @@LuckenbachTexas7499 you’re stating facts. I have a question though regarding Indian Creek. I’ve done well near Reilly but not so well farther south for example the New London Rd bridge. Would you mind sharing a couple areas of Indian Creek where I might find some success?

    • @LuckenbachTexas7499
      @LuckenbachTexas7499 Před 2 lety

      @@carlmay9532 I've done very well on Indian Creek in deep holes between Millville and Ross but that has been many years ago. I've became too old and frail to walk these creeks and rivers so well nowadays but I still have the deep historical and institutional knowledge of what it takes to fish these areas successfully. Deep holes going downstream from around Reilly down to Millville and going on upstream above the New London Road bridge back up towards Millville is where I would go. I am an extremely old school fisherman and I typically fish live baits on light tackle in this type of setting. My go-to baits would be big hellgrammites, soft craws and native creek minnows. Most folks use artificial baits nowadays and as far as that goes I would try a floating Rapala balsa minnow, a Rebel Wee Craw or one of those rubber hellgrammites like The Creek Crawler uses in most of these videos. Good luck out there.

How good will the fishing remain if everyone and all their brothers know right where you are and when. Ohio is filled with meatheads that bucket up fish.

      Excitement is subjective. I get very stoked catching anything over 16” especially inland Ohio and from the bank. Studying fish and really knowing what it truly takes a fish to reach that size in these specific waters is no easy feat. Pressure is guaranteed in these community holes and expected. I have ventured and invested in a kayak to reach those un pressured populations. I appreciate you watching!
