About me: Jill Hecker is a culinary storyteller who has been passionately cooking and studying food history for over 40 years. Her profound interest was peaked at a young age while reading current and vintage cookbooks; the recipes she discovered led to a curiosity of the dishes’ origins. After years of exploring and learning, she came to realize her favorite food decades are dishes from the 1930s-1980s. In 2019, Jill launched her renowned CZcams channel, YesterKitchen. With over 15k subscribers and growing, her channel celebrates these historic classic dishes along with their stories, keeping them from getting lost in history. Jill’s charismatic personality and passion for history shine through in every episode.
About my book: What is that one dish that brings you back to your childhood? This is the starting question Jill Hecker asks every person featured in Every Dish Has a Story: When I Was a Kid... Treasured Childhood Food Memories and Their Recipes. Hecker has a unique way of showcasing just how powerful we remember past events through childhood food memories. This is more of a storybook with recipes. The stories are based on interviews so the recipes are theirs. But, I have to tell you that I have been mulling over a YesterKitchen fan contribution cookbook which your grandma's recipe would definitely fit in! After 1 1/2 years of work, I promised hubby that I will take a writing break before I start a new project! LOL! But you will love these heartwarming stories and also the recipes. I'll be making a few out of the book in the coming weeks!
