@Lisa Surlie It was part of his stage persona suggested by David Robinson to make him the "mysterious songwriter/singer". I got this tidbit from "Let's Go: Benjamin Orr and The Cars" by Joe Milliken. ^_^
I just listened to parts of the whole thing and you are right...As much as I love the Cars..I have begun to notice there was a lot of 'inspiration' from other artists because I have listened to alot of earlier bands from mid-70s and the Cars turned the tunes into more radio fare. I don't know how to describe it.
