  • On November 29, 1978, The Cars continued promoting their debut album in Europe by scooting on over to Bremen, Germany, where they performed for the German television program, Musikladen. The concert was aired on June 7, 1979, and later released on DVD by Rhino Records on October 24, 2000 (just three weeks after Benjamin’s death).
**The first song, "Good Times Roll," has been trimmed out by CZcams for copyright reasons. I suspect this is because Rhino has uploaded that performance as the official live video for that song. It can be viewed here: • The Cars - Good Times ...

Some critics said the Cars had no energy because they always played the songs the same way, but frankly, I always thought of that as a positive. They were true artists who composed the songs the way they wanted them, and when they played them... that's how they were. I love that.

Came here after watching a recent two-part long form interview with Easton. Man, bands in the 70s and 80s could PLAY. No gimmicks, no fakery, no excuses. Stand and deliver.
The keyboard sounds and the smug lead vocal stylings of Orr and Ocasek made them “New Wave,” but Easton’s perfect solos kept them a true-blue rock band.

One thing I really like about this recording is that the director either attended (and paid attention to) rehearsal, or just was more on-the-ball than other directors of The Cars’ early live performances. He was able to follow the right action; Elliot’s solos, highlighting Greg at the right moments, David’s fills, etc. So many other recordings like this totally miss crucial moments of interest.

I'm finding that knowing the notes of the fretboard like the back of your hand, is key. Battle -Ends - And - Down -Goes - Charlie's - Father.. As for The Cars, back in the day I was thrilled about there mid 80s metamorphosis although I didn't give them the chance they deserved. My loss :( because of You Tube, I saw the Hall of Fame induction ceremony and to say the least, I'm kind of hopeless over each one of them! Especially Benjamin! Now that I have been educated.. Each song is strong and can stand solo! I just had another a-ha moment... They ve managed to sneak a variety of genre fusions, "Everything You Say" really showcases Ben's vocals.. I guess.. what song doesn't ? But.. "Everything You Say" has a Johnny Cash vibe !

A shame, how obscure this track is for most. My fav-o-rite rocking gem The Cars ever laid down. So cool to see the triple guitar attack, with Greg Hawkes leaving the keyboards to assist on this triple guitar assault. Don't get me wrong...I certainly appreciate Hawkes' contributions on keyboards on other tracks. Hawkes' keyboard contributions are part of the 'signature sound', of The Cars. Just nice to see him jamming with Elliot and Rick....and Ben. What a performance.

Eddie Van Halen is seen as the father of the tapping technique but Elliot was doing it very early on. Elliot is not known as a shredder. I can't say I've ever seen anyone else play a tear-drop Vox bass like Ben Orr is playing here. I've always thought he was one of rocks most underrated bass players 😊

The whole damn band was underrated! That’s why the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a joke! RRHOF in 2018? Check the record to see what “no-talent” groups made it in before them.

I just finished my sophomore year in high school in ‘79 when I saw the Cars on this tour. I came from a RUSH, KISS and Van Halen background and I loved every minute of it. Elliot Easton is one of my favorite guitarists and Ben Orr’s vocals are right up there as well

14:33 Elliot Easton is THE SH!!!!!!T. So underrated. We all loved Ben Orr, and rightly so, but EE is a phenomenal guitarist and arranger. Who could write better solos for The Cars music? The answer is NO BODY.

I agree 100%. His solos were always PERFECT for the song, and usually melodic. His tone, technique & contributions to songwriting really encapsulated the bridge between 50s & 60s Rock'n'Roll, 70s 'Arena Rock', and late 70s New Wave. It takes a ton of talent to do that. BTW, if you haven't followed Easton's work since the Cars aslled it quits, you have to check out his work in "The Empty Hearts". Their debut album (released 2014) is fantastic...it's not the Cars, but it's brilliant power-pop/garage/rock'n'roll !

WOW! Fantastic!! I grew up just north of Boston, and these gents really ushered in a new sonic landscape, for rock n' roll, and even for the tonal background of other cultural phenomena, like computers, Star Wars flicks, the new searches for new bands - WICKED COOL!
