Yes, at 77 years old, I am thankful for the web and all these videos because I can enjoy the music more fully. I always liked The Cars music, I can now enjoy them visually as well. I really like the "Look" of the band.
I love this so much! Such a great song. Ben Orr melts my heart…God I miss him. I really love the guitars on this live version. It’s the best I’ve heard and I have the album. The Cars often sounded better live but that’s just my humble opinion. RIP Ben and Ric. 🌹
You never knew what to expect from The Cars. Like every song was completely different. It's almost impossible to put a style or genre on them. They were unique.
Ben sings this in a standard tenor range. The lyrics begin on a C4 and his vocals go as high as a G4 and as low as a C3 with some lower vibrato. Not to get too technical, but although Ben had an awesome texture to his voice, he was indeed a tenor and NOT a baritone. I'm also a huge fan of both Ben and Ric's singing styles, and I agree when you say this song should have been another top 40 hit for the band. Rock on! ✌🎶
Benjamin channels a wee bit of Elvis in this song. So beautiful. Ric was a versatile songwriter and he’s lucky he had Benjamin. They were lucky to have each other.
Graduated HS in 1988. 85-88 was a great time to grow up in high school. Some of the best music ever. Now at 53, I find that the 50's, 60's, and 70's were good listening as well. 90's came along and music died for me. It's been trash since then, granted a song or 2, here and there, but nothing like the decades I was gifted with!
These guys were so tight. Their music was so full of fantastic songs, its pretty amazing the way it just seemed to flow through them into absolute art.
As much as I love hearing Ben on the vocals it is nice to hear and see Dave Robinson actually playing the drums rather than a drum machine! The Cars rocked my world in the 80's and still do when I listen today!
Beautiful Benjamin , what a vision he was. That smile... hot. This video has some of the best close ups of Ben. Love it. His voice on this song is amazing. Miss you sweetheart.
Of all of the songs I have heard in my life, this is my absolute favorite. The interplay between Elliot Easton's incredibly tasty guitar lines and fills and the cascading waterfall of notes from Greg Hawkes keyboards are on another level altogether. Toss in Orr's on point singing style, the relentless drumming and then the backing harmonies and you have musical perfection. When I leave this world, this song is what I will miss the most.
Back in 1979, I was staying at the Holiday Inn next to Mile High Stadium. Tried to make Last Call at the bar up on the top floor. Elevator door opens up and there stands Ric Ocasek. We were the only people awake. We rode up to the bar. We talked for a couple minutes. He was 6'4, with tall boots and probably 4 inches of hair. Later that day, he was about 2 inches tall from where I was sitting. Nice Guy.
Yes I agree. Ric was very approachable. I met him backstage with Benjamin and David Robinson and his Mom. He treated everyone like family. David Robinson parents were super nice. I didn't realize they were from England.
I cannot get enough of Benjamin's voice in this song, it just floors me. He was forty here and still going strong. What an incredible talent and stage presence. So sadly missed and loved.
Not true. "Silenced forever" is what happened to orators and musicians from before the 20th century. You can listen to everything Ben ever sang over and over, for the rest of your life.
My favorite live song sung so sultry and deep by sexy Benjamin Orr! Love watching David Robinson on drums and Elliot on guitar. This is my first song of the day and my last of the night. I wish I knew what city they were playing in for this ultimate live version of this song. My absolute favorite. Look at Benjamin Express in this song and his face to the audience. A definite connection! We love you Benjamin Orr and the Cars! ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
OMG...I can still feel Ben’s deep rich baritone running through me from this song...This live version is incredible. He was such an underrated superstar.
Ben Orr was a bonafide superstar, yet also an *every man* kind of guy in every sense of the word. To me, he and Cash kind of resemble one another, and the world could use a couple more Orr's/Cash's...
Damn.... watching this performance really makes me miss Ben Orr and those days when his kind of musical talent and dynamic persona, really wrote the soundtrack and set the emulate-able standard of my life... His image here clad in an all black leather slamming out bass line on solid black guitar always seems to get a chuckle out of my 20yo kids, but once the music starts...they too become mesmerized... RIP BO WeMissYa
Benjamin had it going on with a vengeance...mad style, a voice that makes you weep, and enough hot-ness to melt a glacier. So many talents, a gift to the world. Gone much too soon.
Sorry to disappoint you with our "Ben Orr nut hugging", FarquharsonUSA, but we're true fans. Yes, Ric is very talented ~ he writes the songs, and sings the quirky, funky ones -- we love those too! But the ballads are best sung by Ben ( Ric even admitted that in an interview! ) And have you heard poor Ric trying to sing "Ben's songs" lately? Not the same...they sound like "covers." So maybe you can understand our fondness for Benjamin ~ we just miss him singing our favorite Cars songs!!
I love how Greg seemed to be enjoying being there playing at its fullest. Every now and then I get obsessed with The Cars and this is one of those moments
OMG Ben Orr was so gorgeous and his voice was so haunting and beautiful. I loved when he hit the deeper notes it just resonated through my heart ❤ RIP 🙏
I wholeheartedly agree with you. Ric wrote some great songs, but Benjamin made them what they are....instant classics! I can play his songs over and over again.
Tonight's the first time I have ever heard this song. I'm 40, but my mom loved the cars when I was a kid. I have always loved them, too. I never appreciated Benjamin Orr's voice until recently. Now, I'm obsessed. Wish he were still here. ❤

Ben was a true entertainer, amazing talent, very cool guy. Listening to him sing this song live he could have been a huge name in country and western also.
One of the BEST technically proficient bands of all time. As a drummer and a guitarist I remain confused why more ppl don't appreciate David Robinsons drumming. He was a BEAST!
@Tim Stewart - I agree! David Robinson’s *excellent* drumming is far too often not commended. It’s like he was so great at his job, he blended in and got overlooked. As a drummer and guitarist, please let me know what you think of the following: Benjamin started out on drums. I think it’s reflected in his bass playing. Whenever I see him step back beside David’s drum kit - usually to make Elliot’s solos a focal point - his fingering/playing is in sync with David’s drumbeats. Lockstep, I think it’s called. I’m not a musician, but I know David and Benjamin were a great rhythm section of the band.
So you are a drummer and guitarist! Do you have a band that you play regularly with? I imagine Covid put an end to a lot of that sort of entertainment.
@@annettebell2101 Well, first of all, it's two different types of music your speaking of... In my opinion, he was such an amazing drummer, you can hardly tell the difference whether it was David or a synthesizer. That's pretty incredible. Don't get me wrong, RHCP are one of my most favorite groups of all time. I was going to name my first son Hillel but I ended up with girls. But Flea doesn't really get it going in every song. It all depends on the style of the song. He keeps the songs going with a fantastic style. The Chili Peppers focal point was the bass since the beginning. The complete opposite of The Cars. And Flea could never keep the band on track without Chad Smith. They're the rhythm section.
This is a fantastic version of this song! The Cars have the best hooks in the business! I'll be playing this one on repeat for a while. Rest in peace Mr. Ocasek and Mr. Orr! Your music will live on forever in the hearts and ears of millions of fans all over the world. "Since you're gone" PEACE

Now, Double Trouble was exactly the type of rock other bands were playing; driving, heavily guitar laden rhythm. Sexy song. a Knock-out of a song. Everything You Say - great on multiple levels. A winner. Overall the album was a jumbled, mixed up mess of no continuity. Just a bad mixture of 1/3 very good songs, the rest not so. And Fine Line?? a nauseating dirge.
It's so odd because earlier in this month of October, I just got on a Cars redo and found myself watching their videos. I was pretty young when they were at their peak. I found myself looking at Ben now and it was like I had just discovered him. The voice, the great guitar playing, and his beautiful face. I decided to look up his date of death and it was October 3rd of 2000. I didn't realize 20 years had already gone by and for some reason I had gravitated back to him right around the time he died 2 decades ago. He was everything... Very talented, handsome, and that smile...Sigh... Life is so very unfair. "Drive" is particularly bittersweet to listen to and is one of my favorite songs ... Wherever you are, Ben, must be a lovely place.
I had the Honor to See This Tour, Ben was an Amazing Front man, so much that I wondered ( Back Then) why he had less & Less LP Tracks...it was noticeable by the 4th Lp. But Still, the tracks he sang where always Great as this song is...And Do I have to Mention "DRIVE" !!! Sweet Revenge PS Look into His First Solo LP, Just Great
Simply surreal…all of them combining their amazing talents and Ben the beautiful soulful sex on a stick in front…they captured lightning in a bottle…Elliot a guitar wizard and their secret weapon…RIP Ben and Ric the world isn’t the same without you
That's the gorgeous Ben smile that melts the hearts of all his fans! I could watch those few seconds over and over. Wish I had a loop of that I could play all the time. There is another one at about 2:42 that is just about as good. His mood was pretty upbeat on the entire video. Looked like he as really having a great time. Elliot's solo after the second smile is awesome!
He would smile while he was singing. I've seen him do it with other songs and ...sigh....He was a consummate singer and guitarist but oh so beautiful to look at as well.
Just found this a couple of weeks ago, can't stop listening to it!! The whole band has such awesome energy!❤️ Benjamin's voice is beautiful, just like him! ❤️❤️🎸 Wish he was still here today ❤️
I generally comment on Ben's great vocals, Ric Ocasek's great lyrics and vocals, Elliot Easton's incredible hooks and riffs - but on this song, Greg Hawkes is a beast! Listen to those keys carry the song, allowing Ben Orr to lay out a perfect vocal....and then Easton ends it with a great run. The CARS were so damn good.... Technically, one of the alltime best.
I just found this video a few days ago and somehow, I have never heard this song but wow! I can't stop listening to and watching this! Thanks for keeping this video up!!!
They can't stop you in the night Twirling wildly in the light But I know honey it won't take long Feels like it's one on one on one There must have been a dream in you Stick and fall and follow through But I know honey it won't take long Feels like it's much too strong too strong But then you tell me that you can't go on And you think you're losing sight Don't you worry you can't go wrong inside Everything you say Oh leaves me full of shine Everything you say Well crosses up my mind Everything you say Well you could twist a little while Lie there fallin' for a smile But I know honey you won't give in Feels like when you begin you're in And then you tell me that you can't resist Something happens that you like You want to know that you've been kissed goodnight Everything you say Just leaves me full of shine Everything you say Well crosses up my mind Everything you say When you know it's not for real But I know honey for one long time It feels like you're endlessly entwined But I know you it's what you did You can't be in a broken binge Don't take my heart it's only tin Well you got me goin' Everything you say Leaves me full of shine Everything you say Just crosses up my mind Everything you say Everything you do Everything you say Makes me whatever you do Everything you say That's everything you say Everything you say Everything you say Everything you say Everything you say
i wasnt impressed with Door To Door when it came out, but listening to it now... I find more and more to love. Rest in Peace the fabulous Ben Orr. Tragic loss way too soon.. an absolutely unparalleled voice!
How refreshing! A couple of my fellow Cars fans praising the talents of Greg Hawkes! Greg added so much to the Cars "sound", I think he probably deserved more co-writing credits than he actually got. Not that I'm necessarily blaming Ric Ocasek for that. I have Greg's first solo album Niagara Falls on cassette (you can see my review on Amazon) because no CD exists, AFAIK. It's great fun, sounds a lot like unfinished Cars tracks (circa Shake It Up), but with more melody.
He still plays locally on occasion. Check him out with Eddie Japan, a band out of Boston that does several shows with him a year. All Cars tunes. Outstanding stuff.
When it comes to The Cars, the more you explore the more gems you will find!

Super cool that the The Cars spoiled us with not one but two lead singers. Such a talented band.
Ben always looked so happy, those little smiles, think he would turn a bit and look at Eliot during a song.
Here I am again! Can't stay away.

He actually passed on the 3rd...
Sweet Revenge
PS Look into His First Solo LP, Just Great
Makes my day better bless him if he only knew x
So many sources of creativity in one group. Wonderful pop songs, brilliant arrangements and a great stage presence.
Согласна на все 110%%!!!
Simply surreal…all of them combining their amazing talents and Ben the beautiful soulful sex on a stick in front…they captured lightning in a bottle…Elliot a guitar wizard and their secret weapon…RIP Ben and Ric the world isn’t the same without you
Never realized how tight a band the Cars where until I got old.Outstanding Song and Band...
That smile at 1:40 is priceless.God bless his gentle soul.
He could sing, play and he was just so beautiful.
@@jackiebeals5810 yep, EE slaying that neck on that solo. ; )
@@jackiebeals5810 yep!🏁🏁
I hear a touch of Elvis in Bens voice here, he had such an amazing voice
Love the rockabilly feeling of the tune.
Just found this a couple of weeks ago, can't stop listening to it!! The whole band has such awesome energy!❤️ Benjamin's voice is beautiful, just like him! ❤️❤️🎸 Wish he was still here today ❤️
I listen to his music everyday. It starts my day positively. My favorite. Everything you say. I absolutely love it!!
Ben is the Cars
Benjamin Orr was a beautiful man. Would love to have seen him in concert...
Benjamin makes this song what it is. Great music. First time hearing this. Benjamin was the face and voice of The Cars. He is sorely missed.
Technically, one of the alltime best.
rkl17 I totally agree! I always liked The Cars but the more I’ve gotten into them lately I appreciate each one of them more and more.
Me too! I appreciate The Cars even more now!!!
I agree! Greg Hawkes is a wizard on the keyboards 🎹 on this song! And Ben’s vocals are great 👍 as always!
All just brilliant.
Yep the combination of all these Guys ! the Cars" you are missed !
BENJAMIN ORR, what a great voice he had, and what a wonderful person he was.
Талант Талантище!!!
Великолепный музыкант!! Голос Божественный!!! 😪🌹🌹🙏🇷🇺🇷🇺
Truly an underated album. Really miss these guys. Don't believe the hype on this one folks, THIS ALBUM ROCKS!!! BEN RULES!!!!!!
🖐🖐👏👏👌👌👌🇸🇮🇸🇮🇸🇮
Oh Ben I could watch you all day long ...I don't mind you wasting all my time RIP xxx
Orr had a haunting quality to his voice. Wish he sang even more songs.
He should have sung most of them. His voice was great.
Yeah. Ben was the better singer. Anyway. There are great playlists on Spotify with Benjamin Orr on vocals.
Exactly
Ric couldn't let that happen
...makes me cry hearing this song & remembering how close to my heart these days are♡
I just found this video a few days ago and somehow, I have never heard this song but wow! I can't stop listening to and watching this! Thanks for keeping this video up!!!
I listen to his music everyday. It starts my day positively. My favorite. Everything you say. I absolutely love it!!
Me too, I have listened to all their first 5 albums hundreds of times since they first broke, but somehow I missed this great song.
One of the greatest Cars song ever, and 30yrs old. Where has all the great music gone?
He is so amazing.. gone way too soon.. God Rest his SWEET SOUL❤️
my favorite C&W song....The Cars could do anything with ease. Incredible lyrics, dynamics, vocals, simply the best
Still amazed by his talent. Wonderful ❤ u Benjamin
Complete perfection! But we already knew that! I am so thankful that I got to see them play this live in the 80’s ! God bless Ben! What an angel❤️
They can't stop you in the night
Twirling wildly in the light
But I know honey it won't take long
Feels like it's one on one on one
There must have been a dream in you
Stick and fall and follow through
But I know honey it won't take long
Feels like it's much too strong too strong
But then you tell me that you can't go on
And you think you're losing sight
Don't you worry you can't go wrong inside
Everything you say
Oh leaves me full of shine
Everything you say
Well crosses up my mind
Everything you say
Well you could twist a little while
Lie there fallin' for a smile
But I know honey you won't give in
Feels like when you begin you're in
And then you tell me that you can't resist
Something happens that you like
You want to know that you've been kissed goodnight
Everything you say
Just leaves me full of shine
Everything you say
Well crosses up my mind
Everything you say
When you know it's not for real
But I know honey for one long time
It feels like you're endlessly entwined
But I know you it's what you did
You can't be in a broken binge
Don't take my heart it's only tin
Well you got me goin'
Everything you say
Leaves me full of shine
Everything you say
Just crosses up my mind
Everything you say
Everything you do
Everything you say
Makes me whatever you do
Everything you say
That's everything you say
Everything you say
Everything you say
Everything you say
Everything you say
What a bloke proper fella Benjamin orr
I absolutely love this song & never tire of hearing Ben singing it & watching his brilliant stage performance.
Greg is really working hard here, his keyboard contribution to The Cars has been overlooked sometimes.
i wasnt impressed with Door To Door when it came out, but listening to it now...
He is a true musician. The Cars would not sound like the Cars without his playing.
He still plays locally on occasion. Check him out with Eddie Japan, a band out of Boston that does several shows with him a year. All Cars tunes. Outstanding stuff.
They were having so much fun with this song.
So beautiful to see Our Ben smile so much.
It’s a feel good song! One of those that should never end! I want to listen to it over and over and over...🥰
And watch Benjamin over and over again 😍.
I listen to his music everyday. It starts my day positively. My favorite. Everything you say. I absolutely love it!!
