  • Labour’s Sadiq Khan has stormed to victory in the London mayoral election.
    Incumbent mayor Mr Khan beat his nearest rival, Tory candidate Susan Hall, in a contest beset by criticism of his decision to expand London’s ultra low emission zone.
    Talk’s Mike Graham is joined by Reform UK’s London mayoral candidate Howard Cox, who came fifth in the election.
    He claims “London will continue to decline” under the re-elected mayor.

    • @keithhutchins8966
      @keithhutchins8966 Před 20 dny +6

      Any thoughts on WHY the electorate may be apathetic? Here are a dozen or more suggestions.
      1) MPs who ignore the instructions of their constituents or don't respond to constituents letters? 2) MPs who are more interested in their own career paths? 3) MPs who have different (and lower) moral standards than most. 4) Parachuted in MPs, by the PARTY rather than finding local volunteers? 5) Recent, manipulated, party in-house leadership elections where party members were deliberately excluded from the vote? 6) Political, public party sniping and bickering in the circus that is PM's Question Time and during BBC Question Time? 7) Continuing avoidance of answering questions in public interviews? 8) Party before public attitudes? 9)The 2019 "Get Brexit done " mantra was a reason for the very high turnout (for and against) because it was what the public wanted to be settled and upon which government failed (again) to deliver. 10) Since that perceived broken promise, there has been absolutely no inspiration from any our prominent Parliamentarians. 11) Many back benchers are working hard to represent their constituents but NOT holding their leaders to account. 12) Then, there are the hidden hands pulling the governmental strings. These are unelected and the UK population are, more and more, realising this, but are powerless to affect it. 13) The manner in which the public were dealt with under the COVID chaos and subsequent party hypocrisies AND LIES, not all on one side. 14) Refusal to hold public enquiry in to post State Injectable, increased mortality rate and the public humiliation of one of their own Andrew Bridgen. Would the red rosette party (or any other coloured emblem) have fared any better?
      Population apathy is NOT the root cause of the low voter turnout.

It was not supposed to be that they would recreate and build their 'prison cage' conditioned life over here for themselves, and drag the rest of us in with them. If they want suppression, they should return to the land of their ancestors. Or overthrow their own lands, yet they won't because that would be too dangerous for them! Hypocritical as they want to claim our financial benefits, yet live in an environment of suppression. We have blatantly been under quiet siege for decades. How is that going to work in the long run? Native white British people will give up working to pay for everyone else that is coming here, that are purely taking advantage of us, and we get nothing to show for it. When they have taken over and we are the minority, will we be shown and given pity, favour and provided with every benefit and help under the sun? No, of course not. Its unfair to blame Khan about London knife crime. No London mayor who are elected can completely rid knife crime. It will always exist. Blame the hostile Tories for their cut cut cut

      @splodge5714 Před 20 dny

      The London Mayor should hold some responsibility for what is happening. Kahn does nothing to try and stop this knife crime and the murder of children on the streets. He is unbelievably quiet about it as though it is acceptable.

      So what's the point of a London Mayor then if they can just shift the blame to the Government?
      I am not disagreeing with you but I also cannot see what point the post of Mayor has if that is the case.

    • @CBM902Q
      @CBM902Q Před 19 dny

      @clmclmn21 No mayor is perfect. None will get the job done and solve all problems, as everyone expected. All those critical of Khan are because they dislike him, and even worse he won a third term. He shouldn't be blamed alone. The Tories are in charge for 14 years while he's mayor. I doubt they were as reasonable with him financially, as they would to a Tory mayor. Let's see if Labour win the next election. That would be better for him.

    Khan got 43.8% of the vote in London. Except he didn't. 60% of registered voters didn't turn up. And these people need to be recognised. Because the reality is that Khan just got elected on only 17.7% of the electorates votes. If the 60% had their votes added to a None of the above option, then they would have gotten 3,698,471 votes, more than 3 times what Khan got and more than all candidates combined. There really isn't a mandate for Khan.

    People didnt vote for his policies , they voted for his religion, 100% of muslims voted for him , but only a small percentage of non muslins voted at all . This was repeated across the country, look at Leeds , and it will continue to happen until we leave the pubs and vote , best do it soon before your local councillors shut all the pubs , clubs , football grounds etc as its against their religion

      Wrong. A lot of Muslims didn’t vote Labour due to their views on Israel - Palestine. Khan got briar support from Londoners of all faiths and none
