Andy Burnham wins re-election as Greater Manchester mayor

  • Incumbent Andy Burnham has won re-election as Greater Manchester mayor. This means the Labour heavyweight will serve a third term in the post.
    "I have never given anything less than my all to this job… and I promise to do so again," he says.
    Mr Burnham picked up 63.4% of the vote whilst his Conservative rival Laura Evans won 10.4%.

      ​@@DiscoDrewbringing buses back under local council control. Used to be a fiver to go into Manchester from where I live now it's £2 or £5 for full day ticket. That alone makes a difference. Without a city mayor tgat wouldn't have happened. Nor if we'd had a Tory mayor.

      GMP were put in special measures under Burnham. He then insisted things need to change & he was the man to make those changes.
      Nothings changed whatsoever under his watch. Will things now, I doubt it.

    Go on Andy! as a regular patron of Manchester's public transport system it's the envy of the north. Metrolink and publicly owned busses! the most profitable network in England and the money goes straight back into public services rather than lining executive and shareholder pockets. All of this whilst keeping fares low and services frequent.
