Andrew and the working royals are funded from the King’s privy purse ie private income. It is mainly generated from the Duchy of Lancaster estate that dates back to 1399. Outside of the estate, the King has also inherited a stock portfolio and a valuable stamp collection from his mother plus the 2 private estates of Balmoral and Sandringham. The monarch does pay tax on his private income.
The Sovereign Grant that funds the official side of the monarchy comes from the annual income generated from the Crown Estate which, in 1760, George III handed over to The Treasury to be administered.
