Even if you ignore the fact of pescetarians existing, why would you ever think it would be a good idea to cook meat and fish in the same pan? Ruining the meats taste with fish juices and vice versa.
There is nothing worse than having the meat sauce on fish imo
ikr. sounds like common sense
Yeah like, I dont recall any memory of even eating fish near meat ever in my life. And I mean to keep it that way
If you cook properly you will generate a massive stack of dirty frying pans that some poor dishwasher will absolutely hate your guys for.

It's always hilarious yet pathetic when a terrible cook goes for the old "but we've been serving it like that for years" excuse when told their food is garbage. Congratulations, you have successfully identified the problem that Gordon is trying to solve.
It reminds me of Amy’s Baking Company. Season 6. In that episode, Gordon was trying to help with the food that was being served. But Amy said the classic line “But we’ve been serving that for years! Your just a hater!” And on and on.
Cooks don’t always get the freedom to update menus or even buy their own ingredients! Not saying they are blameless but the problems usually start from the top
In the classic Amy episode, they didn't want Gordon to help; they wanted him to tell the world how amazing their food was. When he wouldn't they flipped out.
@@doom4067 which let's be honest, some of it was iirc. Mainly the baked bits, but thats the only part I can think of

Some people can turn off their gross-out response when handling this stuff. Think about it. Janitors and sanitation workers, for example, definitely have to turn that emotion off when working. Even with every day things like your kid throwing up, a parent will ignore their disgust and clean it up
As a person that dealt with a meat allergy for years I applaud Gordon for calling out the chef for “not hearing” about pescatarians. My stomach could not handle red meat, poultry, and even some seafood without vomiting. I would hope that places would cook using fresh pans each time, but my body could tell when that wasn’t the case and it’s people like Gordon that make me feel noticed.

I recently passed a test for being a food service manager. And seeing all the violations from those lessons happening in those restaurants made me feel absolutely sick. I couldn't imagine breaking any of those rules... people could become super super sick

Exactly. I’ve only been cooking for 3 years and am a chef. It’s hard for me to comprehend that there are veteran chefs out there using microwaves, not sanitizing properly, storing & cooking meats improperly 🤦🏼♀️, it actually physically pains me. You hit the nail on the head. When I was burned out during Covid this became my comfort show and I couldn’t really explain why. I binged the show so many times and it’s now a sign of my depression being at its worst 😂
With the first clip not only could someone be pescatarian, lots of people have fish allergies, often very severe fish allergies, my grandpa for example could go into anaphylaxis if someone gave him meat cooked in certain types of fish juice!
I'm actually deadly allergic to fish. That restaurant could've killed me if I was a customer.
I start having seizures if I eat fish...
Some people have beef allergies
My mom is too! I cannot tell you how many times I've been a ''Karen'' at restaurants who were so aggorant or ignorant enough to say that did cook in the same pan/station
Some say that jar of mayonnaise from 2010 is still sitting in that restaurant's back room to this day.
It matures with age.
The older it is, the more expensive per dollop.

The people are paid to be there, the show stacks the restaurant with guests for the purpose of the show. You cant just film people for professional TV. There are contracts, payments, legal paperwork. Everyone who is there is there to be on TV.
@@jeffcasino3109 that actually depends on where you're recording, places like California or Atlanta, Georgia have laws for the specifically because if hownmuch filming goes on. But a lot of places don't and especially in a restaurant where your "expectations of privacy" are arguable

The grilled salad, might have worked if it was properly cleaned and made into a salad. It's literally just a head of lettuce with chicken on the side and sauce on top.
About the steak and fish in the same pan: What if they are ALLERGIC to fish?
THANK YOU! if I ate there I could be rushed to the hospital
EXACTLY! even if you haven’t heard of pescatarians-which as a chef you should, but as a layman of the earlier 2000s would be understandable-seafood allergies are still extremely common. It’s up there with peanut allergies
Or allergic to beef. I have a cousin who has a meat allergy after he got Lyme's disease. He essentially can't eat mammals or "anything on four legs" is how his family describes it.
A lot of proteins are denatured by high temperature, so if he fries the meat and fish properly its unlikely this will trigger a reaction. But you can never rule it out, and given his approach I'm not at all sure there isn't any raw meat or fish residue somewhere.
@@StCreed Yeah standard cooking is absolutely not considered a way to guarantee all a meat's protein has been denatured, especially when dealing with something as dangerous as an allergy. And not all meat allergies will be stopped by denaturing them, either. Wish it was as easy as that TBH. 😔To fully eliminate allergens, you have to steer more into hydrolizing the proteins, which is pretty much a lab/factory-only process.
A microwave is a great tool and feat of engineering and technology, but not in a professional setting like a restaurant.

I’m not sure how someone works in the culinary industry for as long as Chappie without knowing what a pescatarian is. Even if he didn’t know the name, you’d think he’d at least be somewhat familiar with the concept of someone only eating fish for meat.
And the fact that he said that he’d eaten all over the world and seen what people do and how he doesn’t think he’s “that” far off, all I can think is, “yeah, but how long ago? Because you’re behind by 10 or 20 years.”
Gordon should've also asked if someone was allergic to seafood like myself. Seafood juice can kill someone
I don't like the phrase "seafood juice" and thus, hope you step on a lego for making me read it with my own 2 eyes

The pescatarian thing has me thinking as common sense as food handler’s get to having worked in multiple kitchens in my life. If you’re dealing with raw seafood (like any meat) you have to cook it separately if there is a food allergy or dietary restrictions to be taken very seriously. For seafood you’re never allowed to mix anything else with it in the same pan. I just can’t imagine the amount of cross contamination is in that pan alone. Imagine the food illnesses people have gotten.
