  • @A-small-amount-of-peas
    @A-small-amount-of-peas Před 2 lety +40

    I'm a Cardiff City fan and will admit i'm very jealous of they way Brentford run their club, they have realised that the most valuable commodity in the game is identifying undervalued players and acquiring them before anyone else and they do this by compiling data which with today's technology can capture everything a player does throughout the entire 90 minutes so if you want to recruit a tall and strong central defensive midfielder you can search metrics for height, weight, average distance covered in a game, aerial battles won , tackles won etc which are metrics that aren't exactly glamorous or noticeable in a match highlight reel, they also buy good footballers who retain the ball well. Metrics aren't a sure thing but it can give scouts a guide to observe players they normally might not have noticed before in leagues around the world that go unnoticed a lot

    • @sAYwaTT1000
      @sAYwaTT1000 Před 2 lety

      I'm not a fan of metrics at all for two reasons. One : fulham, they relied heavily on metrics for their recruitment when they got to the prem and it was a complete fail, one of the worst recruitments i saw when you look at the amount of money that was spent.
      Second reason : teams and agents actually pay the websites that provide these stats to change the stats of some players they want to sell. Same way as they pay transfermarkt to give their player a better valuation. All these things are just faked to make more money. (Source, very renown french journalist called Romain Mollina who has a lot of contacts inside).

    • @A-small-amount-of-peas
      @A-small-amount-of-peas Před 2 lety

      @@sAYwaTT1000 😂 that source sounds dubious. I'm not saying it's a foolproof method and if a team buys a player on metrics alone without scouting then they deserve what they get, it's simply a tool that can point you in the right direction, it's not a 100% guarantee but it gives you an advantage over other teams who don't make use of technology.
      What this "journalist" is claiming sounds like paranoid conspiracy but if you use metrics to find a player and then actually scout the player to ascertain if the data is accurate then you'd be a fool not to utilise that tool

    • @sAYwaTT1000
      @sAYwaTT1000 Před 2 lety

      @@A-small-amount-of-peas This journalist is very renown and has many inside sources, he's been published in the NY times has helped uncover rings of pedophelia in haitian football and mali basketball (is currently working on a case in mauritius) works on sexual harrasment against the french federation (which makes him blacklisted from french media, hence why he published in NY times), wrote a few books. If one person knows what he's talking about its him. This guy has probably the best football knowledge of anyone.

    • @A-small-amount-of-peas
      @A-small-amount-of-peas Před 2 lety +1

      @@sAYwaTT1000 never heard of him but again my point stands, if you blindly believe metrics then the chances of you buying a dud increase but if you use it as a stepping stone to identify and then assign a scout to observe then it's an invaluable tool, it's how Leicester found Kante, his yards covered stats were very impressive but they scouted him to make sure he was the real deal.
      To dismiss metrics completely because people are looking to make money by corrupting data is a bit foolish

    I think a mindset that more promoted clubs could take (unless they can get an absolute steal on a really good player) "if we are in a position to get this player, prem teams probably don't want them, so they are probably not good enough to keep us up" and if they look for lower budget but exciting players, they have a better chance to shake it up, and aren't stuck with huge contracts if they don't make it
