      @@JohnBaillie18 Would you not say that the Premier League is elite? The best in the world? So of course a lot of PL managers are going to be called "elite". How often do you hear a League 1 or even a Championship manager be called elite? By playing/coaching in the best league of the nation you are almost by definition an elite manager.

    • @JohnBaillie18
      @JohnBaillie18 Před 7 měsíci

      @@mmgmartintv no he’s not, let’s nip this in the bud right now. Elite managers are:
      -Pep Guardiola
      -Jose Mourinho
      -Alex Ferguson
      -Carlo Ancelotti
      They are elite managers. The best of the best. Serial winners who demand nothing but continued and relentless success. Thomas Frank is a good manager, more than good enough for the prem, but until he wins trophies consistently, either at Brentford or (more likely) elsewhere, he is nowhere NEAR elite. This is the same stupid mentality that makes every player who stays at a club for more than 5 years a ‘legend.’

    • @mmgmartintv
      @mmgmartintv Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@JohnBaillie18 While it's true that the Premier League is widely regarded as one of the most competitive and prestigious leagues globally, the term "elite" doesn't necessarily have to be limited to managers who have won numerous trophies. Thomas Frank's achievements should still be recognized within the context of what he's done for Brentford. Managing a club that has risen from the lower tiers to the Premier League and is thriving there is no small feat.
      Moreover, there's room to acknowledge that the definition of elite can be somewhat subjective. It can encompass factors like innovation, player development, and the ability to consistently perform at a high level, even without a cabinet full of trophies. While it's crucial to honor the legends of the game, it's also essential to recognize emerging talents like Thomas Frank and their potential to become elite managers in their own right.
      It's similar to how the discussion around elite players in football can become limited if we only consider players who have won multiple Ballon d'Or awards or a slew of major trophies. There are countless players who, while not in the same tier as Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, have still had outstanding careers and have contributed significantly to their teams' success.
      In the same way, defining elite managers solely based on a small number of names could miss out on recognizing the unique qualities and contributions of others. It's crucial to acknowledge that the football world is vast, with room for different interpretations of what constitutes elite management. Thomas Frank, for example, may not be on the same level as the four mentioned, but his achievements should be celebrated as part of the broader tapestry of football excellence.

    Thomas Frank is criminally underrated. He's competent in all styles: possession and counter-attacking. He's very nordic in that sense. I love Thomas Frank.
    He has a mediocre Team, that is punching way above their weight and yet he knows exactly how to get the most out of them.
    I would love to see what he could do for a top PL Side (Chelsea? Man Utd?), if this is what he can do with Brentford :0)

    • @rameyj8770
      @rameyj8770 Před 5 měsíci

      Brentford’s team is far from being mediocre. It’s also the whole set up from within the club on how we succeed generally. Frank is just the face of it to neutrals.

    • @neovarleydownes9109
      @neovarleydownes9109 Před 5 měsíci

      @@rameyj8770 Brentford are mediocre.
      Like Teams such a Leicester "were", or Fulham, Palace, Wolves, even Brighton are now, hard to beat, but certainly beatable.
      23/24 - 11th.
      22/23 - 9th.
      21/22 - 13th.
      2122 - Not even in the PL.
      That makes them mediocre.
      As I have said, Frank has preformed wonders with that Team and has found the tactics and formations that work with what he has and he is certainly more than just the face to those with knowledge, which is to more than most that follow football, so pass where you get the comment from: "Frank is just the face of it to neutrals", you are doing those that follow the sport, a great injustice.
      Brentford in general do brilliantly with what they have, they are not really improving, the Table alone will you that and they are more than holding their own, but they are still mediocre, no matter how you look at it.

    I am always surprised whenever I see a current active manager or player work as a pundit. Good for them on a personal level to grow their profile but as a club I would put a clause on their contract to limit their exposure. They could expose their tactical ideas or offend one of their own players with criticism.

    Ngl, i wanted a team to support a team in the PL so landed on brentford 2-3 years ago wgen i heard they didnt release a new jersey which would help the fans, since then my decision to stick with em over a small insignificant thing like that has revealed a rapidly rising dark horse.
    I know some in this comment section will day hes not underated and already seen as great, but i think we still havent acknowledged how great. Statistically they are only worse than man city at set pieces and produce xG for and against that you would expect of vig 6 teams and did this with a recently promoted club using moneyball tactics. I genuinely believe with Toney returns and 1-2 top tier to world class editions, they see european football very soon, seeing as it seems just qualitative factors expected from players in this price range.
    I hope they keep a nice and steady moneyball approach to continually creep up the pl table till they are not just potential upsets but contenders.

      Everton were floating between 4th and 7th for years, then the manager got sacked less than a year in to his step up and was never given another shot. Now Potter is the walking advert for why you don't want to make that jump as a manager. The Prem doesn't allow for managers to take steps up the way other countries do. You can win the FA Cup and finish 6th with a team that isn't your own yet and still get sacked for missing out on CL money.
      Frank could take over Chelsea tomorrow and he'd be sacked by the end of March.
