  • Geeetech is launching their new 250 mm/s printer, dubbed the Thunder, and sent one over for me to unbox and test out. Overall, this is a promising machine with good hardware for a very reasonable price. It does deliver VERY fast print speeds, but there is a fairly steep learning curve with learning what slicer settings work well for the prints and speeds you want! Luckily, as this gets out to more people, there will be people way better than me figuring that stuff out!

Unless you've got acceleration super high, it's unlikely the printer actually reaches 250 mm /s on the small movements during a benchy print, even if it's set to that speed in the slicer. To truly test it you should print something larger with different corners/angles.

can you test the CLOSED LOOP STEPPER MOTORS by deliberately bumping the carriage and to see how it re aligns... shifting problems have driven me insane with my X-1,s

i can get a 45 minute benchie at speeds under 50mm/s using 1.2mm nozzle, 0.3mm layers

That’s awesome, using a nozzle that’s 3x bigger than a standard .4 will definitely yield fast times. But unfortunately, it normally does so at the sacrifice of print resolution.
This turns out a 26 minute benchy with a .4 nozzle which is nuts for a stock machine of this price point.

@@booliganshootingsports Actually, the retail price of $699 is quite a lot for a machine of this spec (bowden, nozzle max 250c), it's really quite a lot.
I run a heavily upgraded ender 3 (upgraded to $600) and running klipper with tuning and input shapers to this speed (quite easily) with better quality (the benchy honestly has quite a few imperfections), and the ender 3 even has an all metal hotend and can print flexibles with a direct drive, or someone could put in a bit more money to build a Voron SW/Trident (which I am building) and it can go even faster.
But I get the fact that some people don't like upgrading and just want to print basic materials :)
      Just saying its not "nuts".
      Edit: spelling

@@gedeonang7077 this isn’t a $699 machine. It’s $399 right now and will only get cheaper.

@@justjoe8660 kickstarters say a lot of things, lol. Ever shopped at any store ever with a sale going on? You see lots of “original price” or MSRPs listed at much, much higher than the price ever actually is, in order to make the sale price look better.

A man could create some pretty spooky and maligned bits of plastic with a machine like that if he was so inclined.
