    Thanks for this and a whole series of videos on the 159. I'm from Malaysia and just got hold of a 159 2.2 JTS last month.
    Love your informative videos :)

      Hi Baldwin,
      Thank you for spending time watching my videos!
      It started out as a way for me to log the 159 maintenance and repairs.
      There are a few things that you need to watch out for, but the most prudent thing to do is to change the oil for the Selespeed system(CS Speed or CHF-11s) and clutch(Dot4) every 6 months.
      Please subscribe if you have not, it will help me out with this channel.
      Let me know if you need any help.
      Thank you & Cheers!

    Are the Selespeed gearbox reliable on the 2.2?

    Wow, that was a lot of work. How much did it cost? :o
    The engine sounds great. Does it have only direct injection? I heard that under 1.500 rpm it uses a single bigger injector on the inlet manifold.
    I am planning on getting a Brera 2.2 JTS in about 4-6 months.

    • @ElginLim
      @ElginLim  Před 2 lety +3

      The labour cost was S$1100. Parts I think all in about S$3-4k.
      The JTS is direct injection. Does not have other injectors.
      If you want to get this car with the 2.2 JTS, a few things that you must consider, the injectors are no longer made by Bosch. The selespeed system has to be overhaul at the interval of 80k km or at least have it check. The selespeed oil has to be changed at least every 6 months. You can still buy repair kits for it but it is very expensive. Engine mounts goes out of stock sometimes so it is good to keep spares. Other then that, it is a blast to drive and look at. Let me know if you want more details. Thank you!

      @@ElginLim Thanks. I am planning to get a manual transmission one. I know they have 6th gear baring problems. How often does carbon need to be cleaned from the inlet?

    • @ElginLim
      @ElginLim  Před 2 lety +1

      The selespeed one runs a similar MT gearbox. My 6th gear is fine so far at 160k plus km.
      The inlet needs to be clean about every 100k-150K KM. But is starts to build up around 70k. As long as power is not affected, I think it is ok.

      @@ElginLim Thanks. I drive around 10K km a year, so for me cleaning carbon even every 50K means every 5 years, lol.

    unfortunately, no matter how much maintenance you will do to this car, it will still break. had this car for 6 years. even with my pedant maintenance, this car kept breaking all the time

      Haha... it's an old car. It will break. Part and parcel of ownership. But I have a blast driving it.

      What part keep breaking on your car? You have the same 2.2 engine?

    • @ElginLim
      @ElginLim  Před 2 lety +2

      Overall, I have changed most of the wear and tear parts.
      My selespeed system have been fine for a few years since I have overhaul it.
      The engine mounts break about every 2 years.
      Clutch last about 80k to 100k, but most of the time is the CSC that breaks rather than the clutch disc wearing out.
      The front upper and lower arms also wear out every 2 years.
      That being said, parts that came with the car from factory when new last much much longer.
      I started changing out the parts when the car was about 6-7 years old. Means original parts from factory lasts 3 times longer than parts bought aftermarket and even original Alfa Romeo parts.
      So it leads me to the conclusion that no parts bought from either stockist or dealership last as long as those that came new with the car.
      Wear and tear parts like fuel pump or anything are acceptable to me. I wouldn't say the car is not reliable.
      All the electronic and electrical parts in my car works perfectly so is the testament of the quality of the 159.
