  • Check engine light fault codes "P0011 & P0010". These fault codes are caused by the variable valve timing phase adjusters (solenoids). In this video we are going to replace these.

Weird, I've recently had exactly the same issue. Codes 10 and 11 came up. I was told that indicates that the timing chain is about to go. Since resetting the codes the 'check engine' light hasn't come back on though and the car is running perfectly. I've done maybe 10 separate trips (50 miles maybe) since and everything is OK. I'm.still uneasy about it though so I may take your approach.
Your video is great timing though!. There is very little online about it... Cheers and best of luck with yours 👍

Thanks Tim! 🍀🙏✌ yeah P0016 is timing chain, but P0010 amd P0011 can be fixed by replacing the solenoids, or in some cases just cleaning them 😁💪

@@939driver Music to my ears! I did have a 'specialist' say I should get the chain done, but then quoted me £2500..(!) That's the main reason i thought, screw it, the car feels and sounds great, I'll put it down to italian electrics 😉 Think I'll take the path you took. Financially appealing and, I may be naive here, but I figure if the chain is going to go I'll probably hear that it doesn't sound right before it's too late (famous last words..) Thanks again (your car's looking stunning by the way. I've got the standard silver trim against the red leather, yours is a really nice, subtle contrast to that)

@@AdAstra78 yeah that's crazy!! A lot of 2.2 JTS owners on the Alfa forums had the same fault codes and only changing the solenoids (with the GM cheaper versions) solved all issues 🙏🙌 Thank you m8!! Very classic combo the silver with red and beige leather 🍀

Hi Jim, really appreciate your passion and skills in DIY the maintenance of these beauties. Great work!
I recently come across the exact some fault codes and this video came to my rescue. I probably will go for the cheaper GM-compatible alternatives, too. Just wondering how is the reliability of these NYT solenoids? Where are they manufactured? Did the fault codes appear again after replacement?
Sorry for all the questions, cheers mate!!

You panicked a bit? Imagine how much I had panicked yesterday when I bought 159 and 2 minutes after, as soon as I merged to the highway, I heard beeps and Check Engine warning on the dash. 🤣
I have a P0010 code. But I have a paper from the service, a year and a half ago, where they tried cleaning both valves, due to the permanent fault codes. So I will be changing both of them.
What is the thightening torque for the solenoids/valves?
BTW, what happens when the battery is disconnected? Does it lose audio system codes, time and date, and so on?
